How to force the drummer to play?
- Begin to adjust a guitar.
Doesn't always work. The last time I tried. He threw me with a chopsticks, and yells some inelligible words. Then proceed to the exit door.
Jared: *tunes his drums*
Me: Hold on...you can tune these things?
Yup, a tuning key is like 5 bucks or something, those square pegs on the edges are tuning pegs and usually used when they get too old (some people tune them to be in key but 99% of people agree that's absolutely stupid, it was more common in the past)
I actually got a kit from my school that has all the drums tuned way too low (I would tune them but the hi hat's spring that keeps it up when you're not pressing it is broken and there's no bass drum pedal, probably why they gave it to me for free (that and it's an under-funded but super nice private school, because that is in fact a thing))
Everything I know is wrong.

Real answer: absolutely, part of good improvisation is knowing the song you're improvising over by heart, right down to the chord structure. My motto is "amateurs practice until they get it right, professionals practice until they don't get it wrong."

Dear Jared, the first time I watched this video was a few years ago when I was 12 and still a guitarist. I was interested in drums, I didn't know what most of the things in this video meant. A year later I decided to play drums. I watched this video again and took notes. I took almost EVERY advice this video has given. So in drum lessons I would always just "be my own metronome"😭 my teacher noticed that i was unreasonably loud and my tempo was always off and I couldn't play with a metronome. So he asked me what a drummers job is and if I practice with a met? I UNIRONICALLY said: "a drummer's job is to keep the beat by being its own metronome, and no I don't practice with a met cause I am my own metronome." 😭😭bruh he was probably so confused 😭😭 i didn't realize the video was a joke 💀. But now i know how to play better 😅 😭😭

I'm in a band where the drummer is dating the bassist, and sooner or later they'll end up breaking up, and then our band will split apart.
I used to have a girlfriend who constantly discouraged me from being in a band and she would get pissed when I practiced. So glad that is over...Never allow someone to get in the way of your passions.

Back when I had my acoustic drumset ,which I REALLY miss, I never even thought about ear protection or plugs or something like that, and I have the smallest room in the house with this big ol' drumset, so Whenever I'd stop, I'd always have a ringing in my ears and whenever anyone said anything to me, as a joke I would yell "WHAT!"

There was a senior upperclassmen (Aaron) at my high school (like 2011) and he said he'd school any drummer.
so in my music class there were two drumsets and some freshmen kid challenged him. This freshmen kid comes from a family of musicians (I knew his brothers, they're legit guitarists). This kid just plays his heart out and all Aaron could do was that exact fill that Jared does. lmfao!! God that brought great memories.
