- How to replace a Honda Accord cabin filters:
In this DIY video, I will show where the cabin filter is located and how to replace it. This tutorial applies to Accords from 1998 to 2002. Some components may be difficult to pull out and you may need to pull and tug harder so don't get discouraged if you have a bit of a hard time removing them. The reward of replacing your own Accord's cabin filters is, of course, the money will you save compares to bringing it to have it serviced which is around $60-$100. If you have any difficulties, leave me a comment and I will try my best to get back to you as soon as I can.
Please note that the actual cabin filter was not changed.
Tools you will need:
Electric screwdriver or regular screwdriver
A small Phillips screwdriver
Directions:
Step 1: Remove the lower right side panel thathas two screws
Step 2: Remove the center console dash cover
Step 3: Remove the glovebox lower panel
Step 4: Remove the 5 screws that hold the glovebox and the lower glovebox support
Step 5: Open the glove box and remove the 2 screw covers
Step 6: Remove the top 4 screws
Step 7: Slowly remove the glovebox by pulling up and towards you
Step 8: Remove the cabin filter cover and pull the cabin filter trays out
Step 9: Replace the cabin filters
Step 10: Reinstall all parts in reverse order
Thank you, sir, for taking the time to film this procedure and share it with everyone. This is a fantastic video - no (loud, crappy) music, no rambling chatter, and not a wasted second. If only other "How to..." videos were this efficient. Thanks again and well-done.

I have owned my 1998 Honda Accord for 9 years and I was told by multiple places my car didn't have a cabin filter. Thanks for the video! Very helpful.
This video is old. But saved me a masive headache trying to figure out where the cabin filter is. I just bought a 2000 accord for a commuter car. But it needs work. Thank god for youtube helping me with everything i need to know.
This is the best video for changing a cabin air filter in a 2000 1998 to 2001 Honda Accord. Not a lot of talk, just real clear viewing on what you have to do in order to get this task done.
Awesome job on the video, guys! I did this a year ago on my 99 Accord, based on the Haynes Guide, and it took me 90 minutes of pulling the wrong screws/parts/pieces. I was looking for a refresher and this will help a lot.
I bookmarked your video several years back. I used it to lean how to do this, then have used it as a reminder two times since. Good job.
holy shit. I just changed mine and they are BLACK. I bought the car about 6 months ago with 183,000 miles, now with 191,000 and I'm pretty certain they are the original ones. BUT There was no metal bar to cut in mine like I've heard from a few others. Thanks for the informative work up video. It saved me TONS of time.
Thanks!! I couldn't have done it without you. Mine was twice as difficult because I had to remove my center console, because the tape deck frame was screwed through that lower plastic dashboard cover. Man that's a lot of work just to change the filter. Now it seems like the aircon is more powerful and free flowing.
Such a great video! Less talk (well even better absolutely no talk!), ALL ACTION!!!
You mean no talk
I agree
thanks so much, almost gave up after getting so close with the bad instructions that came with the filters and not being able to do it. You saved me $100 almost just went to the dealer to do it.
Good job. I appreciate when people don’t talk on these videos. Just show me how to do it. So much easier than the 1st generation crv.
This is the most straight forward video instructions on the web. You save my day. Thank you so much for sharing!
well it took me a while but i finally replaced the 2 cabin filters in my accord. they were very dirty. i cant believe honda wanted over 100.00 dollars. thanks for the video...
Just done this job on my car very helpful video. Be aware that if they have never been replaced like mine, though car has full service history, the Phillips screws at either end of the long metal bracket that goes across the 'filter door' are very tight from factory, I used a good fitting screw bit and a socket wrench, a screwdriver would have damaged screw heads first. Apart from this minor irritation a straight forward job that has made so much difference to airflow from vents.
Wow....I think I'll wait until warmer weather.... I just swapped out a VW Jetta cabin filter. 2 clips and done. Thought I would do the same with the older Accord we have.
Thanks for the step by step!
Thank you thank you thank you! Your way/instructions were so exact and simple even this lady with no car experience was able to do it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Followed the video yesterday and successfully installed the filters. Perfect. Thanks.
Videos like this are the reason I keep watching UA-cam! Thanks
Great video. I can't believe shops charge almost $100 to do this.
dammit, my freakin filter had more dirt than you can imagine, a freakin environmental hazard for real. I thought my ac was workin great before, i can imagine what it would do now. It took me a long time as i could not get the glove compartment to come out, still got it done anyhow. Thanks for the vid.
thanks!!! Just saved myself an hour in labor at local garage = $85 Awesome video!
Steve Cox what dos the filter do?
Clear, concise instructions and best of all, a money and time saver.
I was just about to order a replacement filter thinking it was only one. Glad I watched this video and saw its 2 filters
Thanks for the video. Was able to change the filter and reinforce why I wanted to do it myself... The last guy to do it inserted then backwards!
Amazing video. I’ll be replacing the filters on my dad’s 99 Accord now 🤙🏼🤙🏼
This is a great video.Thank you for sharing.I come back and use it every time I'm replacing my cab filter
Thank you very much! Didn't even know about the filters in our 2001 till yesterday. Your video has been great help and caved me lots of time and money.
Also, I lost the 1st & 2nd speeds on the fan apparently due to dirty filters causing the resistor to overheat. Replacing the resistor fixed that. Thanks again.
Now that's what I call easy to understand instruction!
Thanks, daisrang.
Nice job. I think that's a record time cabin air filter change.
Great video. Compared to my other cars, this is a pain in the neck to replace the air filter.
This video is absolutely rock solid.
Thanks for sharing this - it was a great guide. I have a 2000 Accord - the only difference I found was that some of the screws had socket heads. I would recommend that others use care when removing the glovebox - I snapped off one of the anchors inside the dash with too much brute force, when what I needed to do was clear the lip of the glovebox by the latch hook assembly more than appeared necessary. What a ridiculous process...
Took me only 25 min start to finish with the help of this bid , thanks bro
Thanks! Great video for my 1999 Honda Accord cabin filter replacement.
I love how he just points at stuff. Lmao
Foreals good video
He gets straight to the point. lol
Better than bs jibber jabber
What a pain in the posterior just to change the cabin air filter!
I agree. Every other Honda’s cabin air is super easy to access and takes less than 10 minutes while the 98-02 Accord takes two hours
Awesome. Video was through yet not one word spoken to distract you from the process. Does sound like there is an airport near by? :) Thank you!
Perfect tutorial. No BS. Thank you.
Thank you for the tutorial. I was wondering how to change my in cabin filters. Very informative.
Very impressive. I'll try this as soon as the weather drops below 90.
Thanks a tun dude, just had to replace mine. It was so bad it caused my passenger side vent from even working.
Which way do the arrows on the filter go.....I placed them toward the driver. BTW thanks for letting us know ro remove the panel below the AC...there is a screw there!!!!!
I love you Honda, but this is simply absurd. Thanks for posting the video!
Great video! Hey algorithm, suggest this every year or so, thanks! 😅
Eight minutes -- impressive!
Thanks for posting this video...
Super video. Took my tablet out to the car and swapped filters in no time. Thanks!
Flawlessly filmed DYI video. Thanks for sharing.
i see the screw when i remove the top portion of the center console but cant seem to take the rest of the console off....should i just pull the cover down after i remove the top portion of the console? great video btw
@ :40 you said, pull that cover from bottom....but there is no place to pull it using finger. i failed last week at that point. is it like we need to move it up and take it out after releasing the top corners ? dont want to break it (:-
@PQPLAYER92
The video is a demonstration on how to change your Honda cabin filters. It's common sense when you replace the filters, you put in the new ones.
La gente
Common sense isN'T common... lol.... thanks for the video... even with my 38 years autobody this is a time saver and I can kick my mind in Neutral... My Dad asked me to change his filter
Nice. I have been wanting to have my filter replaced and finally found a good deal.
Thanks to your efforts I am confident I can do the job myself.
Extremely helpful. Pause button came in handy several times.
They don't make it easy to get to, but you make it easier. Thanks!
Wow. 8 mins!! That is impressive. Great Video!
Thank you for the video you posted, it was very helpful to replaced the cabin filter by my own, good work.
@madcaps1 you probably have a light out behind the guage cluster or you shifter connection is loose or damaged
Great Video, i just changed mine and couldnt have done it without it.
I couldn't get that center console piece removed, so after I pulled it back about an inch I removed the right screw. When I put it back together I accidentally broke the tab on the big plastic cover under the glove box that attaches to that screw. Anyway, no more mold and mildew smell.
Yes first of all , nicely done, of course! He hasn’t seen these comments. Doesn’t look it , ha ha . I’m not impressed. I have to use a screwdriver by hand. I went to pull Apart and couldn’t pull it out until now that I’ve seen this demo.
It is hard to advise on the problem you addressed without seeing or testing the system. Based on the information you have provided, here are the answers to the questions:
The ac filter would not cause the center vents to stop working. Since the outer vents are working, the fuse is ok. Probable causes for the upper outlets problems are 1) a restriction in the heater box such as something blocking it or 2) it could be an electrical problem.
Great video. Thank goodness the 2003 & up Honda Accords are much easier to change with no screws to remove at all. Can be done in 2 minutes on the newer Accords.
Are you serious? I wonder if the new Accords are made as well as the 2001 and 02’s! Wow cool man ……
I have a 2004 accord sedan and mine is exactly like this video.
I've replaced Corolla and a Sienna cabin air filter under 4 minutes all together.
Meanwhile these accords take over an hour. Not sure why Honda made the 98-02 cabin air filters so difficult to access
@@niall9727 I used to have a V6 98 accord myself. They make things complicated. In Toyota everything is straight forward. I'll Never go back to Honda.
I've done this before, but what is the best way to remove the glovebox without messing up the little tabs behind it?
Hey Daisrang - I can't remove the 2 screws on either end of the support beam, the other 3 were very easy, I used a power screw driver & it's didn't even budge, did you have a hard time removing them & any suggestion with other tool I can used on them, thanks in advance -
I had to give up because I could not get the glove box out, where are the clips? Where do you apply pressure to pop out the glove box? Can you get at the filters without removing the glove box?
Thanks for the video. Where did you get your filter?
Good thing a frame swap isn't this complicated.
thanks a lot man you saved me a lot of time and a headache
Great video, I have a 2002 Accord.
@ xcalix , no u have ro perform every step to get the filtee out ..... Its very easy just follow the directions
i couldn't get the center console panel out. i spent like 40 minutes but in the end, i could bend it far back enough to get the screw out so i was able to change the filters, but that sucked.
Con todo respeto, este compa es un pinche crack👍,muy buen video
Thanks for the info, great video. wish I had done this 10 years ago.
@Biggiez94
Unfortunately changing the cabin filters will not remove the smoke odor that's soaked into your car upholstery. If your accord is 1998 and up, you can buy the filters online or at a Honda dealer. You can buy aftermarket filters at some auto parts store.
Is it possible to install the AC filter without a frame? Is there no frame left?
i just bought an accord and the person before me smoked in it, will this help remove the smell, if so where can i get the filters at?
Yep, in fact your blower resistor can blow if its dirty enough as the motor will
draw too much current, seen that a few times in the shop.
which year of the 6th gen do u have?
great video! 6th gen is a hassle to change.
thanks
Please answer my questions!, but first I want to Thank you for taking the time to make this Great instructional video!
why do you reverse the filters? isnt that going to push out everything it filtered? also whats the point of changing those filters? what does this improve? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I couldnt get the last 2 screws of the 5 in. The ones under the big panel the last 2 u screwed in back in before replacing the big panel, they screw in to the glove box I think and they just wouldn't go in...does that matter? Cuz I really don't wanna open it all back up...and the glove box is sturdy...
Sooo that’s were the defrost relay is that green box at 3:23 I’ve been tryna find that things location for 3 months
when changing the filters will it change the strenght of air being blown out from the panels depending if the filter is dirty correct?
@MrAlexdesousa
There is no cabin filters for 1993 Accords. Only for 1998 and up models.
i have a tape deck at the bottom of the center console. somewhat blocking that lower left screw. makes it hard to unscrew it. any ideas how to remove the tape deck.
Awesome video I just finished changing the filter thank you
Great video, i know that you have a lot of people ask you this but i looked around and i couldn't find a video for 1997 honda accords. Is it the same thing?
@bashkardy
For '98 and up Accords, you don't need to change the fuel filter. The filter is lifetime and is inside the gas tank.
Thanks for so much details!!!!
@lonebun - Try to use a #2 screwdriver to loosen the two screws. If you can't or if the screws are stripped, use a small vise grip to loosen them.
Now I need a vid for a 95! Dude this was great. Thanks or making this.
Nice job on the video!! Very clear and helpful.
Your Videos r on point
Thank u…🎉
sweet ... I need to get at the wires for the tweeter mounted above the glove box.. now I know how...
I have a 99 Accord EX 2.3 Cyl, is this the same way I can change the cabin filter?
thanks fantastic video, it took me about 45mins.
EXCELLENT video!
@321Texas If you are having trouble pulling the cover out, there's another way to do it.
1) Pause at time :38 and watch how I pressed down the cover.
2) Pull down the top cover out far enough to remove the screw (screw at :49). You may need someone to help you pull down the cover so you can remove the screw.
3) Once you removed the screw, remove the second side screw (1:04).
4) Pull and press down the middle cover as you pull out the lower panel like so at 1:25.
Nice video! I was about to rip mine apart!
thank you....just changed mine. 👍👍👍👍
