Joe Henderson is the only tenor saxophonist in the same orbit with the great John Coltrane. A complete musician with technical ability to spare. His mode for joe and in an out are two of the great jazz recordings of that period. Thank you Kenny dorham for introducing the jazz World to the great Joe Henderson.

Mind blowing, this must indeed be some of the best jazz ever recorded. Joe Henderson is truly amazing, but let's not forget Kenny Drew Sr. who was one of the outstanding pianists at that time. It's also hard to believe that Tootie Heath is the only living survivor of this quartet.
Joe's lines seem to come from the most beautiful place in all of hell haha. They're so amazing... there's this fury and angst behind them that's hard to put my finger on, but they're soooo unique and hit all the time!
The youngsters today, as good as they truly are, still cannot match the dynamics on their horns like the Masters of the fifties and sixty's. Joe and Stan (Getz) are two prime examples............ today's players can blast you with a "thousand notes" and "runs" but fail to tell a musical story like you hear right here LIVE !!!!! EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trio is one of the great trios of that period. Kenny is one of a few pianist that I would track in a classroom with Wynton. Niels was developing into a monster; and Tooie has always been one of the most underrated drummers. This was Dexter’s Band during this period!!! Joe takes no prisoners. Being there in his presence leaves one in bewilderment and respect for an unique and additional outlay of tenor creativity. Also, recorded shortly after Joe leftMiles’ Band.
That trio played great. Great ears. Joe H played a wide variety of moods and intention. Sometimes more chill/cool, sometimes cookin hot note for note precision nobody can touch him, then sometimes outright death and murder of live stock

Unbelievable musicians. Some weird and annoying visual editing. Why do American musicians seem to prefer a plunking bass sound when you can get it to growl like NHOP does?

Joe Henderson was one of the top tenor players - never receiving the recognition due. He could play anything - a rare giant in his own right.
As good as it gets!! Great Jazz !! 56 years ago !!!
Joe Henderson is such an original genius ! To me he is right there with Coltrane, Rollins and Dexter. A great composer as well
I wholeheartedly agree with you. But don't forget Booker ervin,Harold land, Clifford Jordon and Wayne shorter.

Yeah, man
The big chime
I reckon if I played that the neighbours'd STILL complain.
Stuff'em.
ITS HENDERSON TIME!
13:38 joe doesn't get any mote guttural than that!
Jazz is universal! Also audience applauding at all the worst possible time is also universal! Freaking infuriating...
Soooo Great!!! Though I don't think colorization was necessary.
Cool cats!
Why did they clap like that at the end 😂😂

Where’s the rest of this concert, and why hasn’t it been released?
If there is a rest, it can only be in the NRK archives.
Parece Billi Higins en bateria y ese tremendo bajista no es Niels
No he doesn’t and he’s a young niels.
Unbelievable musicians. Some weird and annoying visual editing. Why do American musicians seem to prefer a plunking bass sound when you can get it to growl like NHOP does?
I think is because give more percusive sound, is a thing of taste, niels sound more like a electric fretless bass i like that
John Coltrane is one of the greats but I think overpraised .... give me Joe Henderson or Sonny Rollins any day of the week.
You’re not right. 😅
Joe is great but hes not on coltrane and neither was sonny @robwest36
disappointing
