4 Money Beliefs That Limit Your Wealth Inside and Out w/ Kate Northrup

  • Know your worth to get over your money anxieties and start living abundantly. In this video, you'll learn from Kate Northrup the four money beliefs that keep you broke, and what you can do to change them.
Belief #1: Someone else should/will do this for me. This belief gives another person your power. Instead, know your worth and believe that you're capable of solving your own financial problems, like getting out of debt.
Belief #2: I'm not good with money. This belief only holds you back. We've all learned the skills we have, and being "good" with money is one of them. Know your worth and understand that your beliefs become your actions, and your actions become your life. Pay attention to your money and you'll start to build a better relationship with it.
Belief #3: People with money are greedy OR it's not spiritual to have money. When we have a negative judgment against others, our subconscious will never allow us to have that abundance we're judging because we believe it's negative. Know your worth and your worthiness to have abundance, and understand that money is just a tool to trade value for value.
Belief #4: I'm not ____ enough. This thought takes you out of the game. No one will value you more than you value yourself -- know your worth and begin to put your attention on what you value about yourself and the ways you bring value to the world. Write down three of these things before bed each night so that you begin to grow that muscle.

Money beliefs that have been holding me back: "Money is scarce." "That's expensive."
When I spend money, I will start to look at it as a transaction of value. I am giving money in order to receive something that I value. I will remind myself every day that I am valuable and abundant. I attract money into my life because I add an abundance of value to the world and the people around me!
Thank you for sharing this knowledge and encouragement!

My limiting money belief is that someone else has to qualify you (or you have to have another degree etc) before you can ask for more money or increase your abundance. I think Kate's last tip about recording how you add value will be an awesome way to smash that belief on its ass!

Wow..."3 things you value yourself and 3 things you add value to somebody that day"...write them in your journal...that is such a revelation. i started writing Daily Journal because of my Dad's passing last months when he wrote on 12/17/2015 in his journal "i thank my son (me) whom took me to happy birthday breakfast this morning". i wrote only about whatz up what's happenning but never about others or people i add value to...

My negative money belief is that I don't think I have enough money to grow a successful business. The way I've been tackling it is writing a list of every single thing I can do to improve my money with the finances that I do have. Thanks for this video, it gave me a new perspective!

    07:25mins onwards
    1) having the mentality that someone will save you financially... 😒
    2) "I'm not good with money" 08:40
Solution: check ur balance, pay attention, make a budget, give gratitude.
    3) I'm not _____ enough 😑
    You are more than enough
Solution: journal 📓3 things you value about urself and how u added value in someone's life that particular day 💥

Something that's been holding me back is the belief that money is hard to get and there isn't much of it. Thanks to these videos I'm opening up my mind and realizing money is only as hard to get as I make it. I'm reminding myself that it actually ISNT hard to get and there is PLENTY to go around. I have been working on changing this thing I say all the time... "I'm not a lucky person." Though I have always held that I make my own luck... Just saying out loud that I'm not a lucky person seems to be a terrible thing that stands in my way. I feel this is part of the "Not being enough" concept that I do know plagues me. So there it is I AM A LUCKY PERSON, because I am enough, I am smart enough, I am strong enough,I am committed enough, and I really deserve good things... AND I DO make my own LUCK!!

I always have this fear deep inside of me when it comes to looking at my bank account or looking at the amount of debt I owe due to school. When I look at my bank account I right away compare it to the amount of debt I owe crumbling inside I start to think 'I will never get through this debt' or 'I need more money to even make a dent in my debt and still be happy doing things I love to do in life'. This video has changed the way I think and I have made my first financial budget planning out how I can control my debt and still be who I am and do what I love!!! Whatever amount of money I determine I NEED to have to (1) become successful, (2) start the road to success (3) extract myself from an abusive environment is ALWAYS 100x more than I have...
If I BELIEVE the universe will support me in my steps toward my goals, that could be the action I could take... Move forward (somehow) as if ..

yeah, those are the thoughts to let go of...let just pass through your mind and then counter with the complete opposite thoughts until the opposite thoughts are the ones that pop up more in your mind. If you worry about those things and think those thoughts, you can only continually attract the same things you think. Hope in the past 10 mos. you've found a way to think different and attract differently. If not, employ the method above immediately and change your life. Lack is a lie. the energy of life is abundance until we are born into a life where people have poverty mentality and/or we have a poverty mentality. We can have an abundant mentality and find that things flow into our life that have less to do with money and more to do with 'having everything we need and want in abundance'.

    • @nanu1980
      @nanu1980 8 років тому +16

It is a powerful quote, however, it is not correct. Fortunately, there are people who see value in others and their contributions. And there CAN be people who value someone more than they value themselves. And I'm sure if you think about it, you've heard or whitnessed those stories, too. Yes, there might not be man of them. And most of the time its our close friends and relatives. But even "out in the world" there can be strangers, who value what you have to offer. It's just that you shouldn't rely on these few people to show up. But in my opinion, it's not good to cement the believe that those people can't or won't exist at all. When you meet one of these, be open and grateful.

Greetings Marie, just discovered your channel 18 minute ago, heartfelt topic that needed to be spoken about. This discussion definitely pierced through some stone-wall ideals I've somehow carried with me without awareness. The disguised for me was that those I'v deemed as financial stable had someone to help them along the way! My resolve to the matter is, I desire a better story then suffering without a cause. We all go through challenges BECAUSE we are advancing to a better version of ourselves. You BOTH have been enlightening the process. Thanks

1: That I am not good, skilled, or at the same level as the people that make enough money ("enough") according to my own standards. Like money was somehow out of my reach. But this value exchange just shifted my perspective. I feel like a click was made in my heart and head.
2: Well the first action would be to sign up on a platform to put my art-work out there and basically offer value to the world. I will also continue with some classes to increase my value.

My negative belief is that pursuing more money will take away the little bit of peace I have managed to find exactly where I am. More money means more stress, more responsibility, less family time and less happiness at this point in time. I am dealing with it by thinking of the ways that money will add to my life and recognizing that I will still have free time when I am earning more.

I think this is my absolute fave MarieTV video! I'm pretty sure what's holding me back from fulfilling my best potential is the fact that I'm afraid of not having money and thinking I'm not good with money at the same time. Money is always a topic I swerve around or try to think about indirectly. I've never been in a place of financial freedom (mentally or otherwise) so a constant fear and apprehension lurks around.

'saving' and being cheap is the belief that was holding me back. When I was younger I didn't invest in outings with my friends enough and travels. Because of that I didn't have friends to help when I needed it. Money is just a tool. experience and social network is just as valuable.

Although I haven't lived there for almost 18 years and have found my purpose I am still holding myself back from earning income. Logically I know that I am not my past, I have cut chords in meditations, yet still when it comes to connecting to receiving money I my throat chakra swells and feel like I'm swallowing a rock. belief #4 reminds me of the point behind the Parable of the Talents, which is; "use the assets you have got, and stop staring yourself blind by looking at the ones you don't have". In the parable, the bad servant was given 17.5 kilos of gold to play with! This is close on seven hundred thousand USD to invest, - which is start-capital enough for any self-respecting small business entrepreneur. But he was so busy comparing himself to the other two (who had been given 2 million USD and 3.5 million respectively), that instead of valuing the fortune he actually had and doing something with it, he buried his 17.5 kilos in a field and did nothing with it. In the meantime his fellow servants had increased their portfolios 100%!

My limiting belief: I am not smart/clever enough to make a lot of money or enjoy wealth. (one of the limiting phrases that Kate mentioned in the video!) And the most ironic part of this is that I have held jobs where my sales record is the highest in the company! But my upbringing and going back to my family business and falling back into our old family roles and dynamics has been killing my self-esteem. I am taking action now from Marie's videos to own my self-worth, to believe that I can make good money and eventually have wealth, and to say bye bye to my family business and be bold enough to pursue my own business.

Great video! There's this thing people can do to help get rid of their CCs faster: Debt Snowball. You start with the smallest balance card first, add a set amount of extra you're paying on it every month. When it's paid off, move that amount of payment over to the next credit card. The amount of money you're paying on each goes up exponentially as the smaller one is paid off.

Amazing, I grew up a coptic orthodox christian and they keep on saying "the love of money is the root of all evil" now I understand it doesn't literally mean that way, and that it means loving money for selfish unhealthy reasons is the root of all evil. As for money and spirituality was still kind of a limiting belief to me because again I grew up in an environment that denies anything materialistic and life joys and in the same time says it's okay to go after getting better financially and it caused me confusion to be honest, but as Kate said I'm going to start seeing money as a way of adding value now.
    Thanks Marie and Kate :)

This was super helpful because I am now able to see all my assets (and debt at once). I am ready to take control, because I have the ability to learn instead of staying in the dark!

I really love the breakdown of transaction. Money is just an exchange of value. It is a very obvious point but I believe I'm speaking for many when I say that is easy to forget.
I vow to try to always remember to recognize my worth and check my bank account balance everyday and give gratitude for ways my life is abundant.
    Thank you!

I’ve been debt free a couple times and STILL didn’t find my purpose when I was completely debt free...soooo I ended up getting into debt once again...and again!😩 I’m in the process of paying it off again..for the LAST TIME! I’m older and wiser and finally ok with living within my means!

Wasn't my belief to begin with but one I've been told by my family (as recent as a year ago & I'm over 50 - damn, give it a rest already!) is that I am bad with money, always have been, always will be. Brings up such sadness. I am trying to move past it but honestly, have no idea. I tap, meditate & try to think positively.

I watched this video last night and knew it needed a second viewing so I had breakfast with you two this morning! I definitely struggle with believing that I am enough and love the actionable advice to write down three ways I added value every day. I have a day planner on my nightstand now specifically for that purpose...giving attention to the positive actions I'm already taking so that more will come!

I'm actually sick of myself and after watching this video I'm laughing cuz it's clearly so possible to get out. Thank you for this, I'm leaving my house early today to grab something nice for the salon I go to. #giving

First off, I've stumbled across your site by accident. I cannot express how lucky I am to do so! Your videos and blogs are helping me to look at myself honestly. Though uncomfortable most of the time, it is a task I must do to not only recognize issues I face or don't face, but to also make the necessary steps to change myself and my future. Thank you Marie!
In response to your video, "Change Your Money Beliefs", I feel that I am not smart enough to do anything. I appreciate the suggestions made by Kate Northrup in keeping a value journal and writing three things that I value about myself, or the value I add to others' lives. With this, I look forward to gaining the confidence to move forward and making bigger steps towards my goals.
A side note, I'll be watching your videos and reading your blogs daily. It really helps me to face my fears and to discredit the lies I tell myself. Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

My mindset has never kept me "broke" - but I'm 100% sure I have an artificial ceiling on me. I grew up middle class and I subconsciously have been told from birth that money is shameful, and you're evil if you have it.

Here's a great tip on #2. I have a Bank of America account and have set up all my accounts to send me a daily alert of my balance. It goes to my email and my phone BAMM! I'm constantly reminded to manage my finances daily. And because so many things are on auto pay, it's definitely saved me from overdrafts when my rotating account gets low. I also set up low balance alerts - if my accounts get under a certain balance, it alerts me. Of course, the intention is to keep increasing this balance and you'll find you'll make more and more money to keep it at the balance.

I sent this up online. It comes through as an email notification. I do have the bank app too which let's me do any immediate transfers or other actions. I did it for all my accounts, and they all come over close together so I CAN'T miss the alert which makes it top of mind daily.

I have a thousand pounds put aside in the bank through a job that is under paying me and the idea /ethics of this wealthy Buiness is a false to clients. I am greatly uncomfortable and uninspired with how they are operating and they don't care to hear my idea or anyone else's. I get motivated by seeing why I want to do in my Buiness even more. Im trying to save for my Masters and start back up my online Buiness Which I had to abandon as my father whom I lived with we got evicted and I was homeless for two months. I'm not bad with money I KNOW WHAT I WANT which is to inspire people and have integrity with my Buiness and myself. At times I doubt my self like this morning. But this excellent video has shaken me up to try to think positive.

i grew up in such a way that it was insanely important, especially for women, to be modest. if money is important to you, you are selfish, greedy, stingy, dogged, anything negative you can imagine. i gave away so much money in my life, really gave it away to prove to myself that i'm not selfish. it was such a deep conviction of me that it took years until i dindnt feel bad and guilty anymore when i was asking a friend to give me back the money i had borrowed him.

One belief I have gotten better at but is STILL holding me back it that I believe I am not worthy of spending money on myself OR I always sort of minimize the value I provide with my business. My main employer is my older sister so it makes things mushy. BUT the ONE thing I will do is keep the journal that was talked about. It is really hard for me to do anything consistently for longer than about 12 days but I am going to try REALLY hard because I truly believe this will help me tremendously.
    Thank you so much!!!

    Rich discussion* pun intended.
Love kate's look, she's really pretty.
Limiting money belief- i dont have enough money to get started/ to invest in myself...
I will and have already invested in myself and will feel the fear but do it anyway. I just paid for a class on self improvement! havent started the class but i'm going to let the information and tools seep in and not think about the money spent but think of value coming in.
I'm also telling myself slowly that "I am the best investment I have". Sending you love Marie!

    • @laliday
      @laliday 7 років тому

Charlie Cakes , you don't need a class. you have to define what investing means for you and what, how it will actually benefit you. education, travel, relationships with successful acquintances, experience, being helpful, impressing others with your abilities, getting out of your comfort zone, being responsible, watch how others became successful and try to imitate that
