The guitarist Mark wrote this song about his mother. You can see it on his face throughout. That's why he kept ducking back into the shadows so that he wouldn't cry 🥺
Ugh. This one got me hard in the old ticker. I lost my precious Mom on 4/21 and the heartache cannot even be measured or adequately articulated. Even though I'm bawling listening to this, I needed to hear it.
I’ve heard this song live when they played at Wembley. Such an amazing song, it has a very special place for me in memory of my father. 💜 I still struggle to listen to this song without crying but it’s a beautiful song.
MY FAVORITE BAND!!! I’ve seen them in concert 7 times, met them several times- and they are the NICEST guys you will ever meet. They TRULY appreciate their fans. Now you’ve heard “In Loving Memory”, “Blackbird”, and “Words Darker Than Their Wings”. ALL amazing songs, but all are sort of the “slower” side to Alter Bridge. Mark Tremonti (short dark hair guitar player, who wrote this for his mother) is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL GUITAR GOD AND MASTER SHREDDER! 🎸🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥. I am blown away by how fast his fingers fly on that guitar neck! If you would like to hear a harder side (and be blown away by Mark’s guitar skills) I would recommend the official video of “Addicted to Pain”. Amazing closeups of Marks fingers in the solo. You guys just made my day. Thank you! ❤️🤘🏼
I lost my dad in 2015 from cancer, so I know how it feels to lose a parent from personal experience. If I was in Mark's shoes, I don't think I could play the song without breaking down like a child.
Recorded live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The moment when Myles asks the audience to sing for those loved and lost, and then the thousands of people sing their hearts out still gets me every single time. Can't be much more proud of the Dutch crowd. You could also tell by the facial expression on Mark's face how much he was moved by this.
one of my close friends who I dated, but we stayed friends and he was like family to me back in middle school in 2006, he passed away in October after a couple of days after he just turned 30, my birthday was on the 29th of October too and I turned 30, I still can’t believe he’s gone and I don’t wanna process it cause I’m not ready to hear his voice again in videos, I made a video and put it together of him with a song in the background and I cry every time I watch it. I miss him and I love him, and I wish he was still here 😩🥺😭
The 2nd deepest song they have is Wonderful life album version. Really hits you hard. Close your eyes, And just hear me sing, One last long goodbye, One last song before you spread your wings.
Check out their songs "Open Your Eyes", "I Know it Hurts", "Broken Wings", "Ghost of Days Gone By". Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti (Lead Guitarist) are Perfection together!!!
Love me a good Alter Bridge reaction! They have been a favorite of mine for years and years now. When y'all get the chance check out their song "New Way To Live". It's a B-side track with meaningful lyrics, and it's easily better than a lot of band's features.
When Myles says “sing it for him!“ and you can see how emotionally overwhelmed Mark is, it gets my eyes all wet every single time 😢
The most important rock band of the last 20 years.
Not a bad song in their back catalogue
Damn straight!
not even an ok song. all great song
Fckn Love Alter Bridge!! My son that passed turned me onto AB !! Miss U Buddy !! 🥺

He admitted in an interview that he was fighting back tears whenever the audience sang it back to them.
Alter Bridge always just take it home with the lyrics
