  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
    Today, treat yourself!
I love going for a walk, then order a good cup of coffee in a cafe, and: sketch. If you can create these little moments that are real treats for you, then you are allowing yourself to recharge, in a meditative and active way - then go on with the rest of your day. You will feel so much better and different!
I have taken a photo every two minutes of my process while drawing at a cafe today; that way you can see how I move my way through a drawing, how I make color choices and keep my palette limited too.
If you are in a public pace, like a cafe, there are always people around. So let's not ignore them! Include them in your drawings, even if you think you can't. Your pages will become livelier, AND you're building your people-drawing skills with each page. And if you'd like a little push towards drawing people with more confidence, then join my Live Online Workshops "Let's Draw People - Level 1" and Let's Draw People - Level 2" in March!
Tickets are now available. Last time I offered these workshops, they were sold out quickly, so be quick - you're still in time for the early bird price!

Koosje the view behind you at that bridge is fab! I love the shapes in the house roof and the foreground bridge with some summer greenery would be fab. Definitely don’t have houses like those in the UK.

Although in the UK there’s architecture that I love drawing, which we don’t have in NL

Love drawing but not sure I could do this, with people looking at me 😮😮😮 I admire you.

No one was looking at me even for one second while doing this. People are much too busy with themselves and each other.

I now know of a coffee shop where they also hang her husbands local oil paintings. ( very loose & expensive.. but they do sell his prints! ) Also on my favorite bike trail. So, lots of inspiration. Trouble is, my hubby, my hubby may give me only 10 minutes. Lol. Fast sketching and a lot of photos! I don’t like to ride alone. 😬 thx for the tips. 👍🙏🏻❤️🖌🎨

That sure was something to note. Draw the people first. Then the background. Thank you.

Now that is a good way to plan one’s sketch. First thing to do is sketch in the items that may well move before you get a chance to finish the sketch. Better yet, sketch in the people you see; wait a few minutes and sketch in any new people who happen to move into view in to what might have been open space had you finished the picture earlier. Using this method one might be able to fill the room with people who were not originally there all at the same time.

there are only a few small coffee shops around here and they would prob get mad at me for only ordering a muffin and sitting on 1 of 5 tables for a few hours lol #
i dont think i have actually even seen anyone sketching in any of the coffee shops here or in the nearest town, very odd

Maybe you don’t need a few hours though. The time to drink your drink will be your limited time for a drawing…. I do that very often. A tea allows me more time to draw than an espresso for example. It’s an extra added challenge, for practical reasons like yours.

If so , do you know when so I can block the time? Also, do I have to take course 1 before course 2? Thank you !! I loved this video and I will treat myself to a café/drawing date! Thank you for the Inspo!😉

      Hey there!
I don’t have another round of let’s draw people level 1 and let’s draw more people level 2 planned for this year. Not for next year either, I don’t know yet if I will offer it again then. I wouldn’t recommend taking level 2 without level 1, because they build on each other.
