Stumbled across this movie by accident a few months ago during a pre-exam all-nighter. It’s since become a comfort film for me.

@@WeHeartGiantRobots It's the same situation as with Blade Runner. Contemporary response to a movie doesn't always reflect it's true quality, only now are people realizing how great this movie actually is.
This review is way better than Bennett the sage's as he did nothing but talk bad about it. I love this movie.
Nothing worse than putting dozens if not hundreds of hours into a project and having it pulled down. Good on you for putting in the work to revive this video. Keep up the good work!
Bought this and Patlabor on a whim way back when there was still a Virgin Megastore in Belfast, enjoyed both, wouldn't mind a review of Patlabor too on this channel.

Being a fan of Lang's Metropolis, I picked this up on DVD as soon as I saw it. Love the film, and now have it on Blu-ray. Great review.
Definitely need to get me a copy of this on Blu-ray as well, now you mention it. If there's one thing the last couple years has shown, it's that it's worth investing in physical media.
The origonal video encouraged me to watch METROPOLIS. It's incredibly beautiful, I even made the entire movie my wallpaper using wallpaper engine. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hell ye, man, glad you got something out of it. Metropolis is an absolutely gorgeous film: that's one thing that sitting and editing stills from it really drove home for me.

p.s. i finally watched the movie and i found it difficult to engage with (despite the superlative aesthetics) due to the lack of a compelling narrative and surprisingly sophomoric direction, and im not particularly proud of myself for that or for this blogpost that i've vomited into this comment for some reason

Nah, this is more "Japanese corporations don't understand fair use" than it is "UA-cam doing a goof". Their systems are a hell of a lot better than they used to be, but they're as trapped by the current state of copyright law as we are.

Metropolis is actually good, my guy. I wouldn't have sat and re-edited this goddamn thing to re-upload it otherwise.
