There are some subtle hints about the existence of newtypes throughout the series. Matilda calls Amuro an "esper" in the TV series. In the films she flatout refers to him as a newtype while addressing Bright. It's also hinted the Federation treated the White Base and its entire crew as guinea pigs by purposely limiting access to resources and assigning them frontline in their diversionary forces to exploit/observe potential newtype awakenings. At Jaburo, the entire crew, including the three orphans, undergo physical examinations and psych evaluations. Amuro states his was longer and more extensive. Hell, this is also the justification why the orphans are allowed to remain on the WB. There are quite few more I'm forgetting about, but they're suuuuper subtle and easy to miss. The movie trilogy's altered deposited and structure is much more overt about it.
From what Rob's rambled, it sounds like the movies manage to get the point across a lot more clearly. Which checks out, they didn't have the equivalent of an entire movie slashed from their production (as far as I'm aware).
Honestly, i think u got it wrong. While Fed did have interests in Amuro as a NT. They were mostly about his abilities in battle. The lack of supply early was due to they were deep into Zeke zone and they still got somewhat irregular supply runs. Those supply runs were not risky at all!!! By Jaburo, the High Command slashed 2 Salamis escort for White Base after Char's assault demonstrated Zeon's obsession to the Trojan Horse. They recognized WB could be an excellent bait and WB acted admirably at that role allowed for much safer launchs from Jaburo and a portion of Grenada defense fleet got smashed chasing The Trojan Horse. They even developed Alex for Amuro as next gen MS with all the new techs around.
Funny enough, they do talk about new types early on. Just not directly. They refer to them as psychics. Then they proceeded never to bring it up until the end as you guys said.

Hey Guys. I found ya with your first video on 0083 and just kept watching for some reason. I while I don't agree with all your opinions, I appreciate your different opinions and that your always entertaining. Hope you keep making videos for a while!
Man I watched gundam origin first because i wanted to watch it in chonological order but ramba ral isn't done justice in mobile suit gundam, but i think that's just because of the newer anime setting a higher bar than was intended for the character in the old anime, which i have since also completed and is actually very good, but they don't go into the whole prince and princess of zeon angle very much in MSG :/ but like I said the anime is still very good and was really enjoyable. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I already knew about new-types and who some of the newtypes in the original series were, but not all, and I was able to weed out subtle hints at newtype characters and surprised to find out some that I didn't know about. It may have been more disappointing if I had no idea about newtypes prior to watching this since it may have been more confusing
If I had to guess who watches your videos I would say either people who just like dislike themselves or people who have nothing better to do or are lazy all three of those things describe me
@@WeHeartGiantRobots And here we thought Threads was the most depressing review. Surprise! It's Picard's character getting dragged and beaten like a child in a Gundam series.
My problem with Mobile suit Gundam is the plot is too straightforward there's not enough side things happening not enough world building it basically just follows the group of heroes the whole time except when it follows the enemies that are about to attack them this is why I like Wing the best because it goes all over the place with who it follows and even if it ends up not making a lot of sense I think it makes for a more interesting show that way
I honestly wish that they would re-animate and redo the series so that it can be more digestible for new audiences, because a loooooot of people are NOT willing to watch an anime that is what, almost 45? It would also give Tomino time to actually talk about new types and not make them quite frankly kinda fuckin stupid
What's your take on the original series vs. the compilation films? I was surprised when I found out that people liked the movies more since I feel that they cut out too many important scenes.
I think people prefer the movies because they're a little closer to Tomino's original creative vision for the story as a whole. He was able to remove some of the elements forced on him by the sponsors, and so on. They've both got their merits, though, don't get me wrong.

You're seeing signs of just how completely fucking incoherent and rambling our recording sessions are, right there. But hey, Amuro gets a whole segment on why he's a good character later. Swings and roundabouts.
I watched the Original Gundam in onr Single day, the show not the movie thingies because i couldn't find them anywhere. The characters felt annoying and it felt like nothing was happening. I especially didn't like Amuro (but don't ask me why i do not remember.) I think i disliked the Original Gundam do much because i watched a shitty recording with even shittier subs. I watched Zeta the next days and really enjoyed it. I liked Kamille as a Character quite a bit. ZZ felt like missed opportunitys somehow. I actually liked the beginning on earth, thid whole fighting with what's available stick. I also liked the comedy. Once we got to Moon Moon though. Hooo boy. I just put thr episodes on 4x speed and sat there, eyes blinking, not really taking anything in. Also i thought thr design of the double zeta gundam was incredibly stupid.
Why are we watching your stuff? Well apparently, we are all like minded horrible people and watching you be a little worse makes us feel a little better about ourselves. Looking forward to the next video.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the greatest pieces of science fiction ever written, in my opinion. It seems vastly and criminally under-appreciated in the U.S., I think. But the people that know, REALLY know. Most people in the US that like anime tend to like the more superhero oriented stuff. Which is weird because a fair amount of them are in their 20s and 30s. And, look, I liked Dragon Ball Z when I was a LITTLE KID, but that’s because it’s a LITTLE KID’S SHOW (I said it and I’ll never take it back). There’s nothing wrong with shows for kids, but they kinda lack depth as you get older. Everyone likes fucking Naruto and One Piece and shit, that stuff never interested me, they just seem very Dragon Ball-esque. DBZ came out on Toonami when I was 10 or 11, I liked it then. By the time the Buu saga came around I was 15 or 16 and you couldn’t have payed me to give a fucking shit. It had all become formulaic as fuck, it was tired and uninspired and a lot of characters I liked early on got pushed to the back burner and it just solely focused on the Saiyans. Anyway, why have I digressed into DBZ? Because I still very much gave a shit about Gundam when I was 15 or 16, and I still do in my 30s. Gundam Wing aired when I was about 13 and I instantly knew the story was vastly more nuanced and interesting than anything DBZ had ever displayed. Then they aired the original series and 08th MS Team and I was hooked for life. I’m not super into anime in general, I just recognized how fucking good Gundam was right away. My interest in DBZ type of anime really started to fall off after I found Gundam, particularly the UC timeline. So yeah, that means G Gundumb doesn’t count. That show is garbage. Some people will hate me for saying that. But to them I say, “stfu weeb, you’re 30 and still think DBZ is interesting.” Like, stfu Toriyama, how long can you keep this up? What new forms of Super Saiyan (initials SS, and they have blonde hair and blue eyes? Interesting....) will we see this season? How many forms will the big boss have? How the fuck will Goku save everyone this time? How long am I gonna stare at a bunch of grunting, constipated looking dudes? Will half of the season be Goku charging a spirit bomb while the main villain stares at them and just LETS HIM DO IT? Gosh, Toriyama, please share your secrets for such amazing storytelling (said fucking NOBODY, EVER!!) Sorry, I’m just bitter that dumb shit that was literally made for kids is vastly more popular (in the States) than stories with depth, nuance, complexity, political and philosophical intrigue, and multi-dimensional characters that are affected by things that happen in the story (which isn’t to say Gundam’s not for kids, just that it has larger appeal as well). But then again... The US did manage to elect Trump, so I guess it really should come as no surprise. So many fucking idiots in this country, I abso-fucking-lutely hate where I live. Anyway, cheers! Great content!
You don't necessarily have to be good to be entertaining. Just look at Jolly Wangcore, dude's an idiot who's bad at words and anything besides shooting people in video games, but he's still funny as hell. Also gib patlabor.
Zambot's definitely a proto-MGS (plus Tomino gets to kill way more people in that show), but I'd still argue it's more Super Robot than it is Real Robot. Good show, though, don't get me wrong.
As a fellow Gundam fan, I'm surprised you have a soft spot for Star Trek. I don't know if it's the Star Wars fan in me, or the anime fan in me, but in terms of the science fiction I've seen, Trek is kind of overrated, because their ethics past TOS don't make any sense (LOL PRIME DIRECTIVE) and their battles look mid at best and suck ass at worst. At best they look like a ghetto version of a Star Wars battle, at worst, they're so bad that even your bogstandard Gundam space battle is miles ahead of them.
TLDR (without watching the video); yes.
This is the kind of thinking I can get behind.

You don't necessarily have to be good to be entertaining. Just look at Jolly Wangcore, dude's an idiot who's bad at words and anything besides shooting people in video games, but he's still funny as hell. Also gib patlabor.
Oh hell yeah, Jolly's a good lad who's built an entire channel around not being able to spot obvious traps in Source games.
If black people can say the N word you guys should be able to say the A word without worrying what people think.
You're attributing a little too much to gundam, Zambot 3 did some of that beforehand and even the early mazinger stuff had some of that
Zambot's definitely a proto-MGS (plus Tomino gets to kill way more people in that show), but I'd still argue it's more Super Robot than it is Real Robot.
ILO the movie trilogy is better, at least Newtype bullshit wasn't all over the place
Zeon defenders are easily the worst part about gundam
Reeeeeeeeeee
Sounds like your souls weighed down by gravity.
Zeon did everything right
You guys should be cancelled just incase.
Probably wise.
