Never thought of looking at it from a current me/future me perspective. This is tremendously useful, particularly as my system consists of two notebooks (larger & smaller mtns) and I can now reassess what I do using the perspective you outlined. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! You inspired me to really think about - i.e. to assess - what does and doesn't work for me in the Bullet Journal system. Like you, I really value the ability to set alerts and reminders in my phone, but I like to physically *write down* my to-do lists (for current me), and also to keep track of what I do every day (for future me). I have been using a Leuchtturm 1917 A5 notebook for that, but...while I really like that style of notebook (lined vs. dot grid, though) for my long-form analog journal, I don't particularly like it for daily task lists and notes about what I actually *do* every day. That style of notebook is simply too thick and heavy to carry around. I prefer thinner, less "permanent" seeming notebooks for day-minder stuff. However, thinner paper-bound notebooks tend to get completely *beat to hell* in my bag, which doesn't make me happy. I've been thinking for awhile about getting one of the Traveler's notebooks, but wasn't sure which size to commit to - but hearing you talk about how you don't enjoy using the smaller size resonated with me. I don't really enjoy using the 3x5 size either. I always feel *cramped* in them, like I'm in a mental prison cell. I do kinda like the Clairefontaine 110mm x 170mm notebooks, but they are somewhat hard to find, and they don't solve that pesky paper cover issue. Sorry to go on and on! Long story short: I just ordered a regular sized Traveler's Notebook setup from Goulet Pens. Bonus: they have the camel colored cover on sale right now, for about 15% off (only the camel, and only in the regular size - not sure why). That color happens to be my preference, so yay! Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying thank you for this video - and its sequel, which I have also watched.

Nice overview of your system and I like your insight into how and why it meets your needs. I haven't thought about who my bullet journal is for in that way. I do use the bullet journal system and I use it for both my present and my future self. I like to do my calendaring and to do lists and project notes or brainstorming that way. That is for present me. I also like to capture notes or other things that happen on that day or week so and have them integrated in the same spread. My appointments and schedule of tasks is not so full and complicated that there isn't room to have the other notes and things in the same spread. Future me likes to see the context of having them together. I do also use Google calendar, especially for things that are scheduled far into the future. For upcoming months, I think Google calendar beats the Future Log page for me. I also like having digital and analog calendar information. They serve as back up for each other. I do not use colors. I also like just the black ink and the consistency of that.

I have seen people who use their Erin Condren planners like this - they future plan and then use the blank space for journaling. I love the result but I feel like my weekly schedule would either be super empty ("go to work" for 10 hours each day) or jam packed (all my little things at work) to the point of irrelevance.

Current me likes the future me much more than my past me. But my future me dislikes my past me. My past me loves my current me. It's a complicated relationship.

Not to be negative here, but so many journalists feel the need to mark the weather, which I just don't understand. For one, I've never felt the need to answer the: " fall didn't seem so rainy last year " type questions you reference, and moreover, if I did ask such a thing, there must be a more trustworthy source than a handwritten journal to answer them, right? maybe I'm wrong? or is this more of a mood tracker type thing? (it affects mood, etc) very curious why you feel the need for your present self to tell your future self today's weather?

I am totally with you. I try to keep most trackers out of my journaling either because 1) they deal with moods with are so transient anyway or 2) the information is elsewhere. I'm playing with the weather thing only because current me is wanting it from past me, so I'll put it down. But if I find that I *never* reference it later, I won't continue because it is a bit repetitive.
