Kenesky’s Hockey Equipment Legacy

Today we were talking about a local hockey equipment store in Hamilton called Kenesky’s. A store that strived on quality and custom made goalie equipment which was the cutting edge from the 1920s to the 1970s. They were the first to make the thick padding bar on the side of the pads to Help with rebound control and they made the pads wider at a time when most boys were cricket pads. However,Their inability to make enough custom-made equipment often caused them to Decrease in market share and eventually close their doors. They did however resurge in 2018 when goalie equipment in the NHL became restricted to certain measurements. In 2018 Braden Holtby wore their custom made chest protector and was followed by other goalies like Craig Anderson, and other notables. It’s always good to see a company who strives for quality and innovation come back into a field mostly monopolized by large companies.
