Wardlow Hay Cop - Peter's Stone - Foolow ¦ Brosterfield Farm Campsite ¦ Derbyshire Dales

- In this video join me for a walk which I started at a newly opened Campsite - Brosterfield Farm in Foolow Derbyshire. The walk is around 7 miles, and can easily be started from the village of Foolow itself.
Crossing back over the A6, we begin the walk through farm land (cattle, sheep and stiles for those who don't like them!) and head in an arc around behind Wardlow Hay Cop. After a steady ascent up to the trig point at the 370m summit of the Cop, we begin to descend into Cressbrook Dale, with beautiful views into the Dale and across to the village of Litton.
We turn right at the bottom of the path down into Cressbrook Dale and enjoy the limestone scenery up and below Peter's Stone (you can easily climb up to this if you are lucky enough to get better weather than me!)
Exiting Cressbrook Dale, we cross the A6 again and pass in front of the Three Stags Heads pub before taking a path to the left through a farmyard. From here, our route takes us back across farm land and a country lane back to Foolow.

really beautiful campsite, the field is so green, you did great job to the summit but the views are nice, love the cows and wild flowers, natural shower is perfect for this adventure, thanks for sharing your beautiful adventure, really enjoyed

Another beautiful hike in glorious British Summer weather. When I went to Wardlow Hay Cop it was blowing a gale and it blew me off my feet. Great vlog Des, thanks for sharing.

Great to join you for this hike Des! It’s great to see the farmland and animals there! I loved seeing the soothing greens of the fields and the stone walls. Too bad you’ve had bad weather so far this summer- getting out in the rain all the time isn’t fun, especially in the summer. Interesting to hear about the Roman mining and that you can still see the texture in the land! The Pub and camping look perfect- added bonus that you don’t need to cook or clean up! Hi Jennifer. It was a great little overnight trip, despite the rain! I know it does the land good, but we've just had so much this summer and yet across in mainland Europe it's been a draught!

So nice that you're out in the van and at a new campsite too on your own, looks good there 😃 Loved the walk and always nice to see cows in a field :) Interesting that there is history there since the Roman times with the mines. Surprised it took so long to reopen as it must be a money spinner to open up an empty field. I also prefer the more basic campsite too, don't get the crowds and the massively inflated prices either. Given the weather we have been having nice to get a break in the weather, although it looked a bit iffy when you got to the first cairn - oh spoke too soon, who mentioned rain lol! Just to add salt into the wound no open pub either - oh spoke to soon again, that was a nice pub at the end, very nice indeed, cheers Alan
Hi Alan. One closed pub would be bad luck, two would be a disaster! 😁 I've walked past that one a few times but had never been in. Really nice place, and very friendly👍
I reckon a lot of farmers are coming up with new ways to bring in income, so a fair few new sites springing up.Hope they do well!

The paths there are such fun. Cows are funny wherever they are. Always curious and then very skiddish. The dales are beautiful and the flowers are lovely. Thanks for sharing Del.
Hi Dan. The Derbyshire Dales are great for wildflowers. I think it's the limestone soil? I seemed to attract cows on this walk! They are funny, but can be dangerous if they get a bit frisky! Waving a walking pole above your head often does the trick to keep them from getting too close👍😁
When you said...the weather has been shocking, i thought you were going to say something else....Wardlow hay cop is a cracking little hill...The views across Cressbrookdale are stunning...the 3 stags look an interesting place...shame about the Rain, but the Thornbridge made up for it.

Hi Des, lovely walk again 😀 I know this part pretty well. Love Foolow and Cressbrook Dale. Not been onto Wardlow Hay Cop as yet, so that's for another time. The Three Stags Head at Wardlow Mires that you passed used to be a very "quirky" pub! I remember the landlord just scowling at me when I walked in the first time! He was quite well-known at the time for being quite "abrupt" shall we say, and that was part of the attraction for people to go there! 😂 Glad you got in the Bull's Head at Foolow. I've recently had it on good authority the food is excellent there. All the best 👍
Hi Patrick. I love that area...so many beautful routes! I'm told the Three Stag's Heads landlord is still a character! I'll try and pay a visit next time 😁 The food I had in the Bulls Head was excellent, and the beer well kept too!

Great hike from your campsite. 7 miles gets you a great little work out. Looks like a good combo of flats and elevation. It is so green. Rain! The pub is really nice.
Hi there! Yes, apart from the climb up to Wardlow Hay Cop, it was a pretty leisurely walk. I deserved the pub after the soaking I got though!👍😁☔🌨
12 km is a good hike really beautiful out there great views of the farmland and I hear ya on getting dried out. Very nice pub. 👍

'Wow, all that activity back in the day.' That's what I said to myself des when you mentioned the Roman mines. I find the long line of activity fascinating. I checked out Cressbrook Dale - it's Peak District. I keep thinking about hiking up there. It's an awesome space rain or not. Well, a decent pub and pint and hey stop over to. Hi Mark. It always fascinates me how the usage of the land has changed over time. I imagine those fields must have looked very industrial centuries ago! It was a great little overnight trip, despite the soaking! The Derbyshire Dales are probably the gentler side of the Peak District, but such a beautiful area!

It was a lovely trail (Cressbrook Dales is a lovely place to walk) and even the soaking gave me a good excuse to go to the pub! 😁

Indeed, we have had our fair share of rain this summer...not the summer we've all been waiting for. One must need to pay attention through that area or one might find themselves taking a tumble in an undulation! Beautiful countryside! Oh dear, the rain returns...just when you think it has stopped. @@DesGreene Indeed, between the fires and floods, we're still waiting for summer to begin. We've really only seen three days in a row with sun and that is when Otis and I headed out camping!

The field near the Three Stags is great for overnighting. We have held a few getogethers there.

Was the field owned by the farm or the pub? I think I may have seen a campsite sign?
The one I stayed on at Brosterfield farm was very nice, and away from any road noise too.

Hi Terry. It was nice to catch the last of some of the wildflowers. Always one of my favourite things about the Derbyshire Dales. I've heard the Three Stag's Heads is a bit of a step back in time. Don't think they like newfangled developments like phones and lager! 😁 I talked to a guy in the Bull's Head up the road who told me a great story about getting a lift home from the landlord after sampling their 7.2 ABV house beer! 😂

Nice walk that one. Some beautiful country. Weather has been dreadful hasn’t it. We just got back from Europe - dreadful there too. We had three decent days in the Dordogne but other than that very wet - cool and showers and rain. Daughter, Son in Law and Grandkids were washed out of their tent in the Loire on the way South!! .

Sorry to hear the weather for your trip wasn't great. Reports from southern Spain are the opposite - mid forties.,and praying for the weather to break!
