My first comment ever on UA-cam! From South Africa. Perfect loft. I'm gonna take design cues from you. Only diff is mine is gonna be1/2 longer, 1/3 less deeper and split into three sections for breeding and two separate sexes fliers. I hope it doesn't take me two years to get there too lol

Thank you Gary! It was a lot of work but happy the birds have more space. My mentor advised I leave that loft for the stock birds so I'm going to be trying to build an extension to my flying loft before this upcoming season. Aloha and Merry Christmas!

Hi there. I'm from West Palm Beach in Florida and I recently visited Maui for my honeymoon. I was born in Cuba where pigeon racing is huge. Great birds man! It’s not too bad here, pigeons are cold hardy so they handle the cold well, just gotta up the protein in the feed and change out fresh warm water twice a day.

Good thing you built it before lumber went to an all time high Good grief it's ridiculous I just spent 250.00 dollars today for 2 sheets of 1/2''x 4'x8' plywood, 5, 2x4s and 5, 2x3s I remember when I was a kid and built double decker individual 2'Dx4'Wx2'H pigeon breeding pens and 4'x4'x4' roller kit boxes with box perches for less than 50 bucks lumber, paint, screws, nails, screen, hinges, and shingles You got a nice looking loft I bet your birds love it.... Congrats man

Hey Sean, great job on the loft! I found myself checking my youtube for your updates and progress. Sounds crazy but watching your videos has gotten me into racing pigeons. Shawn ur Loft is amazing to see but 1 single mistake is how u clean the bottom of the loft it will raise disease for the birds ....U hv to make it height atleast 4ft then u can clean or Vaccum it

Omega comments I think it's to open for me if you get some hard winds it would take your birds out of shape or out of form that just what I thought other than that you did a good job you're not going to run into the problem with respiratory if you using it just for readers just to hold them that will be okay but not to raise I live here in California Riverside California to be a sack good luck man
francisco hernandez you're correct, my mentor talked me out of racing out of the stock loft for those reasons. Just going to be a stock loft.

AlohaPigeons lol! Thats funny. Which part makes them think youre nuts? You look perfectly sane to me! Lol... I did notice you forgot something for the loft. When you put the wire up, you didnt put framing on them for reinforcement. 3 inch by a quarter inch slats should do it. Pls let me know if you want/need help in any future builds. For me, there is no such thing as tedious when it comes to pigeons! Besides, once i start having birds again, I'll want someone to talk to about them and perhaps pass on some old school knowledge.

Great job. Working on the design for my loft. How do you deal with the buildup of droppings that fall through?
My awesome chickens clean under my loft. I drop some food through the floor of the loft if dropping start to build up and they turnover and scratch the dirt and droppings until there is nothing left.

Since you're using wire mesh as the floor how do you clean out the droppings that collect under the loft?
Not yet but I might when I have more birds in the loft. Fo now my chickens are always turning over the dirt and droppings under the loft so it all just disappears.
