Sand Crabs is one of my favorite bait to use for surf fishing. I've seen a couple of videos on UA-cam - people eating San Crabs and for a long time I've been wanting to get a taste of it, some people said it's really good, some it's not. Only one thing for me to find out is to try it. So here you go folks Catch, Cook and Eat Sand Crabs! Enjoy!

Sand crabs are not good at all. I tried some like this. It's kinda nasty. But everyone has different tastes

Faren Sabri yea I'd think a lot like crayfish they need to be purged before cooking to get rid of that nasty fishy taste. I bet if prepared properly they'd be not so bad!!
Patrick Cavanaugh As I understand it sandcrabs are virtually impossible to keep alive in captivity so trying to let them purge (clean out all the nastiness, sand, etc.) in fresh water, etc., probably you would just come back to alot of dead, rotten, sandcrabs.

Ok, this is the second dude to cook sand crabs and puke. The first guy sauteed them in butter and couldn't choke even one down. This guy could eat at least a few before up chucking. So if ever in a starving situation, fry them.

Marcus Aggripa that's because sand crabs have to be cooked either stir fried or deep fried...you can't just cook it with butter lol. Needs to be seasoned or stir fried with herbs...plus this guy puked because he let his mind get to him picturing the sand crab.

So you guys probably confused on how it really taste like because of the ending🤔 The taste is good, it's not really bad, I puked because I thought of eating the actual Sand Crab.
More Than Fishing hey man do all beaches have sand crabs cause I live in New York and I would like to catch some For bait for stripe bass.

my girlfriend from the philippines just loves them! whenever she visits me in durban south africa...i catch and prepare them for her...she has taken them fried to KSA where she used to work...now in carlsbad...shell them and rinse away all the innards...then fry in butter...add a little chillie powder...delicious!

"A mixture of shrimp and crab" is what every single catch and cook video on sand crabs/sand flee/mole crabs (same thing) described the taste as, I'll definitely take your words for it.

After Matts nearly lost his lunch with his sand crab C&C, I was hoping either you or Ish would revisit the challenge! They are actually pretty tasty fried up like you did it.
My 5 year old nephew loves chicken nuggets and all bite-sized fried things, so I think I'll make a batch of these and sneak a few in there to see if he'll eat them.

First time I see doing them in this way. We usually make soups with them. A bit spicy or with chilli pepper. It's good on beaches without too much contamination.

My coworker did this. He fried em up with spices. Said theyre delicious. Apparently they taste like crab or shrimp. I guess theyde strip away the thorax plate 1st and the rest of the armor was soft enough to just crunch and eat. He said theyre delicious. I may try 1 day just to see.

That is crazy... i try some weird cooking on my channel (gravlax, menhaden etc) but never even thought about sand fleas. You set the bar friend, now i have to step it up. Great work.
I know it probably happens a lot on cooking shows, but they edit it out. it was interesting and enjoyable to watch. Had funny moments at end bloopers. At least you're honest. I enjoy watching your other videos, straight up fishing. :)

I’ve heard that sand crabs were edible but I’d never seen them prepared and eaten until now. I want to catch some and cook them this way. They look good!!

I actually had some soft shell in there and there's no taste difference between the two
Usually how I see them made is they take the hard top shell off and it makes them so delicious

I ate some sand crabs as a kid 20 years ago in Mexico , we just dug them out the sand and put them on the grill right away and it tasted and smelled like grilled shrimp or crab not kidding.🦀 🍤

I remember when I was a kid if you dug into the sand along any beech you would find sand crabs. Glad to know they are tasty too.

In Perú they eat sand crabs just like that. I ate it when we lived there when I was little. They would make the little kids catch sand crabs on the beach for fun
These are a delicacy in Thailand and apparently very delicious. Not sure what the issue was with this fella and the other guy on the beach who boiled them in butter. They're supposed to be addicting too.
I've tasted them before and do love them, they really taste like shrimp and crab combined. I boiled them first with cayenne pepper, blended ginger and onions, salt and garlic, afterwhich I fried them and it was so delicious.
I think it's the way it's seasoned and cooked, that makes a big difference.

Try soaking the crabs in salt water before you fry them. Soaking with clean the sand and other things out / off the crabs. They remind me of popcorn shrimp 👍👍👍👍

Should we de-shell these sand fleas before we cook or fry them?
If you've got a 20 gallon tank throw some tap water in it add water conditioner and some instant ocean if you dont want to get the instant ocean a lot of commerical places just use Epsom salt, get your salinity to 1021 specific gravity put a 12 dollar back filter on it throw them in there for 48hrs feed them any cheap high protein fish food it will clean them out remove them wash and cook the same way you just did brother you'll notice a big difference in quality of the taste shrimp/crab . You can use the setup anytime you catch them.

You can fry just about anything and it will taste good. Heck, you can even fry a *Magikarp* and it will taste good.
I just watched Bizarre Foods Andrew Zimmern chow down some of these in Thailand. Deep-fried with cornstarch and fresh garlic. But there's something wrong with that guy, he can't stomach durian. Anyways, I bet if you prepare them like Chinese Salt & Pepper Shrimp-style with some jalapeños, they would be delicious!

Hi love the video...where did you harvest the sand crabs ? I remember digging them out at beaches near NYC in the 1950's...never ate them. Love fish especially shell fish !!
Guys humans have tasted pretty much everything, and the things that taste good have become part of our cuisine and the things that didn't, we don't speak of like sand crabs... this made me LOL 😂😂😂
They're actually pretty commonly eaten in certain parts of the world and coastal cities in the US. But another common crustacean and abundant food source. Lobsters and crabs were once considered garbage fish too until pretty recently. Rinsing them out for several hours in cold fresh water really helps to bring out the clean, fresh shellfish taste. I don't think he rinsed them for long enough.
Basic Snowflake +1 on the lobster being considered trash, they used to feed lobster to prisoners because it was considered a low grade trash meal. Can you imagine being in jail and being fed lobster 😂😂
