This was great Gary. I really hope that people who want to start metal detecting will take your advice to heart about avoiding the cheap detectors. As you pointed out there is so much junk advice on the internet over what a good detector is, especially the sites with lists that are supposedly updated to 2022. If you're reading this and are looking to buy a metal detector for the first time, take your time and read as much as can. Eventually, you will get a better idea on how best to invest your money based on your budget. Don't be afraid to ask reputable dealers what they think. People will always have some difference of opinion but as a whole you will eventually find the top detector for your dollar.
Nah, your experience with the atp helped you grow into this machine. I took a similar route and value my time with the atp. Deus is a great upgrade, but a solid grounding is important.
I’ve eyed the ORX for awhile…it seems to me to one HELL of a machine at the price point and for what it has been shown to do. Very nice informational again Gary, fantastic!

Great video Gary. I been detecting for 35 yrs and hunted with nearly all brands. The advice I give a newbie is this. Buy the best detector you can afford, and to me the very most important thing is, after you get it it, get out and hunt with. Dig all repeatable signal so u know the numbers and how the signal sounds. Spend as much time as you possibly can and soon you will know ur detector and have less chance of getting frustrated and tossing itt into the back of your closet

Another good video full of advice. When i buy detectors i always buy the best of the type. If not i wont buy one. I started in 2003 and bought the Explorer XS instead of S , E.Trac instead of Safari and Goldmaxx Power instead of lesser models. From 2009 i had most of the time an ET and a Deus 1 . Now i still have the ET but have the Deus 11 . I have had quite a few other machines that do a bit of what i want but only the ET and Deus 11 do almost all what i want . I find them the perfect combination. Some shops will say buy a cheaper model of the same machine (like the Nox 600 instead of the 800 or the ORX instead of the Deus 1 etc) So they can get used to detecting or will end up going back to the shop for an upgrade. But there can be a risk of some being put off the hobby by bad or not so good machines . Sometimes its best just to go in all guns blazing and buy the best you can straight away. But you need to know your limits .
Gary I've invested in a 3d locking shoe for the remort stops it coming off when pushing to hard on the butt.well worth the money. Having the same problem with the deus 1 now having the deus 11.

This means that : the interface between target and the soil, the surface of the target, the shape, ... will change the measured conductivity. X,Y display on Deus II is also very helpful, if you are searching only for coins, dig only for targets giving straight line. Aluminum forms are the worst targets, measure conductivity can vary from ~60 to 94 on a Deus II & also displaying a straight line on Deus II X/Y display. It maybe useful to cross the scan, and notice that the measure conductivity is in the same range (+/- 2) and that X/Y display, displays a straight line in both direction . Another tip for conductive soil is to dig the first 10cm and scan again.
Nice finds Gary. Great tips. The majority of our coins come in at 84 and above here in the USA. Gold coins and small silver, lower VDI's. If you notch, for silver, not Disc, you can really get on the deep silver. My silver count got higher. Not saying to notch every hunt, but if your limited on time, notch. The XPD platform will find those deep silvs. Good Luck all.
I had the eqinox 800. But sold it. This xp deus ll is better. But to be honest my old ctx 3030 is amazing. And the xy screen in xp deus ll is some kind of information... Still learning the xp deus ll. But still the ctx is an other level so far....

I ripped a couple of those websites new A**holes for putting those cheap Chinese metal detectors in the top 10! Those sites are so misleading and turn people away from metal detecting because when they buy those cheap machines and don’t find anything, they lose interest,not to mention the money that they dished out to buy those cheap pieces of crap! I could never understand why people would do reviews and recommendations on things that they know nothing about.

Selling detectors, UA-cam posters sold thousands of Garret detectors. I have detected for 42 years with the same brand of detector, (Not Garrett) Detecting has changed and is a world of difference. OH detectors have changed alot! and hardly at all. How we detected in the 80's is hardly like today, How we detected in the 80's is still how we detect today! Confused? People coming into the hobby today have people who have detected for decades to learn (UA-cam) from, We didn't have the internet, We had "Magazines" and that was about it. We were using VLF-TR detectors, Then (New) Motion, ground balance Discrimination was used and abused. I knew people who discriminated nickels out just to beat iron bottle caps, Silver hunting. "Iron bottle caps?" OH! Well since then they have rusted away leaving a rust shadow, Changed things. What can I add to the hobby for the beginner, Settings and dig, don't dig ALL DEPEND on where you are hunting. Every location has it's own set of rules. This (Zero disclination) of Garrett users depending on numbers and tones is 90% of hunting with any brand of detector these days. Biggest problem with new People is they don't understand what they think is going to be a good spot, Well People have been hunting that same ground for 50 years! You are going to have too get creative and work for it. One thing I will say about detectors these days, There's A LOT OF PROFIT manufactures are making on selling "Dreams" Which is People will think they can hit the lottery just by spending big money. (UA-cam) advertising by People who really are just selling a brand by making it look easy.
I love xp but your metal detectors arnt really begginer friendly, something like a simplex, a vanquish, or xterra pro would bemuch better for a begginer And it sucks that I can't find a deus 1 anywhere I have looked in canada, seems to be discontinued here in favour of the orx and deus 2, but the deus 2 can't use the smaller HF coil that the deus 1 and orx can use
Why has it taken so long to have all the Deus II accessories available? It's been almost a year and we can't afford to buy some headphones, what's going on? this is vastly disappointing from a company.
I agree… the lack of alternatives to the headphones that come with the AW6 is disappointing. The AW6 are not adjustable and fit poorly with sunglasses. I can’t use them for more than an hour as they irritate my ears. I’m going to try the Clip Jack WS4/WSA adapter. One UA-cam poster showed it working with the AW6 puck.
@@DaveKane yes you can buy the clip for the puck and then can use your choice of earphones via a cable, just be carful when pushing in the clip as the Jack plug is it’s weak point so push gently from either sides, I had to lift the two plastic contacts up as they get stuck otherwise and feels like it would very easy to snap the plastic
Good question Emmanuel, I'm not sure if power us the right description. I think it rejects ground better and the target ID is more accurate. Relic more is impressive.
I dig more with the Deus 2 - not only more small coins but also more small trash. So it has at least the power to give me more signals which get me to dig.
So basically by super cheap machine and dig all so do not miss the good targets between the trash 🤣🤣🤣 only joking, thank you for as always a clear informative video 🥳🥳🥳
