STUCK VALVE FOR SURE The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I agree but also I noticed it was in gear when you were starting it but a bit of work and a tune up and might be a great project
Dor future starts, go to a place where they repair lawnmowers and buy a used gas tank. The way you are doing it the fuel pump may be weak and not pulling gas well enough. The lawnmower tank you can sit up by the back window and gravity feed the carb. Enjoy watching all your videos.
Was that engine replaced, cause it looks like the car had an engine fire, also the alternator belt, looked like it was loose which could lead to battery draining.
Looks and sounds like spark plug wires on wrong... I've done that enough times myself. But this video is dated Feb 2018, I'm sure you've got that figured out by now, heh!
I'd say it has a stuck valve, which is why it is popping back and also it is only running on 3 cylinders when it is running. Might be an easy fix, but at least you know it will run with a little work. Chew the price down based on the facts...
I just realized the last 5 minutes of this video got cut off when I uploaded it last night. Not sure why. I will upload it later. It started to run much better just as the video was cut off.
I agree, keep the price low as you can go, tell him you got a tear down the engine in order to get it to run . not as desirable as your 67. Good job. Love the puked jeans
I think you have no idea how to start an retired engine and I can see why, car is not in neutral, lights are on for no reason but draining battery, sorry but useless cranking and cranking is not the answer.
What is the structure to immediate right of rear engine compartment latch hold down. I did not have one on my 68 ghia.. I wish they would build a new car same ghia body style and maybe 10 percent biggger- perhaps electric..
@@CTmoog My air filter was on the empty stand in back of engine compartment on right side. It was original and was a rather large rouindish thing with oil at bottom. I was told of an attachment for air conditioning system on ghias. Seeing these ghia videos makes me again in love with the styling..
@@CTmoog some one said it was an air conditioner- do you think it is that.. you said it was an air filter. nearest latch hpld down.. I saw where someone put a small elect motor in a ghia. Can you add an ac unit to a ghia..
@@CTmoog 1968 was the last year of the small tail lights which looked better. Big ones seem wrong but we cant be choosy. I could not find a tool to spread out the disc brake pads so i used a screrwdriver and damaged my inner rubber lining boots that prevent dirt getting in.
Why while the engine "wants to start", don't you just accelerate it a little bit? Using that much the starter motor expecting it to start by just the choke.... You can just burn the starter, should "help it start" with the throttle... Plus that lights are wasting battery while trying to start. This video remembers me so much when I first started fixing old cars, they were old Citroen 2cv's, twin cylinder boxer engines, some fuel through the carb, a battery, and they ALWAYS started right up.
Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt über die amerikanische Unproffesionalität im Umgang mit alten Schätzchen. Batterie und Eiermann genügt da bei Weitem nicht
Sucks about your pant leg. Sounds like you have a stuck valve or a bent push rod and the condenser is probably done. All minor details condensers are cheap. Other than that it sounds OK. A quick check under the valve covers will show which pushrod is bent or which valve is stuck. If a stuck valve make up a 20/1 two stroke oil in the gas mix and run for a bit and tap the stuck valve stem with a light brass or plastic hammer and you might free it up. Put the valve covers back on before running the motor or you will have a giant mess. Fix it after you bargain though, you will get a better price.
It was worth it. I had a blast working on this one. I hope I can make a deal and bring it home in the week or so. Thanks for the tips. I will try that.
O cara não deu nem uma olhada nas válvulas, aquele suspiro que o carburador estava dando pode ser sinal de válvula com problema...15 anos parado e vem um sujeito do nada e coloca ele a virar, da nisso.
So frustrateing watching you, obviously not a Mechanic. Never give it full throttle when trying to start from cold.Never give it full choke espeicaly after pouring so much petrol in,it will wet the plugs.Always check and clean the points and rotor ,and plugs first if its been sitting a long time, there are many things to check, even the fuel line and pump, oil in the sump are just some.
Save drag on the engine by puting it in neutral!. Save draining the battery by turning the bloody lights off!!.
Good idea! Thank you!!! Did you subscribe? Stay tuned!!! CT =)
It reminds of me of when i tried to start a piece of junk car when i was 16 that somebody gave for free.
I like the very late models best with the large taillights and wide front indicator. 😊

Try holding the throttle open a little.
Que homenzinho medroso
It's in gear that's why it is not starting
Try again in neutral
Good idea!
Try starting fluid it cleans up whatever in the throttle body
Ok cool! Good Idea!
So you're going to restore the whole car? Subscribed!
Maybe, I'm waiting for him to find the title. If he does then I will buy it and then I can start messing around with it.
What did you negotiate the price to?

Ahhh yes.... I just watched the rest of the video... lol
Yes, I had the plug wires switched around at some point. Here is a link to part two with it running good.

I just uploaded the rest of the video. It got cut short for some reason. 67 is way cooler! Just need an engine for it so this might be the trick!
