My father bought me my first of drums when I was 14 in 1971. It had double tom toms like the one seen here in this video. I had a hard time playing the ride cymbal because of that 2nd tom tom. It was in the way. In 1979 I bought a set of Buddy Rich #80N by Slingerland. I love this set. No more 2nd tom tom in the way. David L. Saelens (drummer, Rock Island, IL.) Posted 21 March 2019.

Buddy was so good that we expected nothing but perfection from him_ he had a couple moments here that reminded us that he was human_ still blows away almost any one else who has ever picked up a pair of drumsticks

@@rgk9ruler777 No less than Carmine Appice (didn't he have some "big ones," just to try to DATE Buddy's "little girl?") took Buddy's daughter out for awhile. A BUNCH of guys (idiots, one and all!) were raggin' on Carmine, (the poor guy!) to challenge Buddy to a " drum off." Carmine was like, what ARE you guys, NUTS? True story...

3:11 Buddy mentioned "Jack" the actor Jack Lemon and how good of a piano player he is. That's a fact. Jack was a fine pianist especially playing jazz. I had the pleasure of playing a tune with Jack back in the '80's at the Bermuda Dunes Country Club and Golf Resort. I was playing a gig there during the Bob Hope Desert Classic Golf Tournament, with pianist Murray Arnold and bassist Rollly Bundock. Murray asked Jack to sit in and he accepted! It was surprising to hear how well Jack swung a jazz tune. When Jack left the stand, he was smiling and gave us the peace sign.

Buddy Rich had his 12th (??) heart attack in 1986..... AND THAT POLISHED HIM OFF COMPLETELY.......
Apart from being a most accomplished world drummer, Buddy was an acknowledged professional comedian, (jokester) -- as evidenced here in this 1983 Johnny Carson interview.......

I remember the memorable time or two when Buddy played Ed's set and had to really extend himself to hit the crash cymbals due to their height. Maybe the worst setup I've seen him master was on the Mike Douglas show when he only soloed. This clip is on UA-cam.
