Great presentation of Athens... Thank you for visiting our beautiful capital... We are proud of our food history and our friends from all around the world... Ευχαριστώ πολύ!!
I am Greek and I live in Athens but i would suggest to go to an island, they are literally beautiful. Santorini, Mykonos, Crete Mylos, Skiathos... Actually every single island is amazing in Greece
With all due respect but the islands most of the times are way more expensive than villages in Peloponesse and Central Greece or in Ioannina area or Volos in which some awesome stone villages exist. The best of all Greece. And you can access awesome nature spots or forests or lakes or rivers also great beaches are less than an hour away.
I’m from Greece and we never use lemon to tzatziki the full recipe is so simple for 1 kg full fat Greek strain yogurt we ad 2-3 big cucumber we squeezed to remove the excess water then we ad garlic vinegar salt and lot of olive oil we mixed together and taste until we find the right balance then we leave it in the fridge to bonds everything together for few hours and that’s it!! goes very well with meat and bread

If you come to Thessaloniki you find the best food in all Greece. Here is the authentic Gyros. In north Greece the gyros is very huge with different ingredients. I am here to guide you next time if you want to explore Thessaloniki and chalkidiki
A very welcome to Greece (from the UK)! Great to see you both enjoying the Greek cuisine - you two made us really hungry! 🤤 Mastiha is usually a natural gum coming from a tree. We mainly use these for flavouring Greek Tsoureki (brioche). For a more authentic off the beaten track journey in northern Greece, try Meteora (means suspended in air) with the massive rock formations and legends, Ioannina's lake with its unusual speciality fried frog legs (yuk!), Edessa's waterfalls, the traditional Pelion villages with a Mama Mia boat trip over across to Skiathos island and Thessaloniki, Greece's largest second city, a culinary mecca (worth trying bougatsa, koulouri and trigona panoramatos!) with a young population and great access to Chalkidiki beaches (aka 'the three legs'!).
Wow, another wonderful video to watch. I love the affection between you two and the way you tease each other. Smiles throughout! I'd have to rate this 10/10. Well done as usual.
good evening Chad and Claire, thank you so much for visiting our city but there is a lot more places to see with great food, coffee, dancing and great music from the other side of acropolis monastiraki, psiri, thiseio, those places is all around of acropolis, but very good video about greek street food the gyros is called souvlaki
I absolutely adore your positive attitude and jovial demeanour! The joy you exhibit is infectious in the most adorable and wholesome way imaginable. Thank you for exploring and showcasing one of my favourite tourist destinations in the world. You definitely did the Greek cuisine justice!
I can definately recommend Grillaki near Omonia square for the best gyros in Athens. Such hard working and kind people, who make our holiday even better. We visited over 10 times, 2.70€ for a delish gyro is unbeatable, even more expensive places didn't compare
Fantastic showcase of Greek food & you showed a lot of the must haves whilst in Greece. So happy you put the lemon on the saganaki as it makes it perfect as well as cinnamon on the loukoumades. Have to agree with he Greek honey as I've tried honey from all over the world but nothing beats Greek honey. If you ever have another gyros or souvlaki in Greece, ask them for tirokafteri (spicy feta) as well as tzatziki, a pinch of oregano (if they don't already put it) & if they also have kondosouvli meat, definitely try that & you will thank me for doing so. For a quick morning snack when you wake up, follow your nose to the nearest tiropita (feta cheese pie with filo) & I'm surprised that smell didn't wake you each morning. It's a pity you guys didn't spend more time there as I'd definitely also recommend going to Glyfatha, Athens on the coastal road as they have awesome biftekathika (grilled meat patties) tavernas which are insane as well as yummy ice cream. Another thing I'd recommend is paithakia (grilled pieces of meat) for dinner & also kicking back in a kafeneio with a Greek coffee, meze and tsipouro or tsikoudia/raki if you visit Crete which I highly recommend you do, as well as Rhodos island. If you can spend more time, definitely visit Thessaloniki as I believe in Tsimiski street (Othos Tsimiski) they have eateries which are even open at 3am. For insane octopus, definitely try Kalymnos island (the ferries sail there but they have a small airport) & for some awesome sweets on that island try "Mixalarias" pastry & confectionery shop who has really awesome galaktombouriko
The marinated octopus is tastier than the grilled octopus. Furthermore, my Portuguese wife was blown away with the octopus in Greece vs. the Portuguese version.
The traditional Greek loukoumades has always been a ball (like the one shown) - not doughnut/ring shaped. The name itself betrays this, as loukoumas (the single form of loukoumades, which is the plural) literally means "morsel" / "single bite". However, because US style doughnuts (foreign, and imported into Greece) have the same kind of "frying some dough" recipe and similar internal texture, when they first arrived we've re-used the name "loukoumades" to also cover those (though we now usually call them just "donats" (the Greek prononciation spelling of doghnuts).
Chad and Claire you did it again! You made a delightful and super video on Athens. I like the video of the Acropolis and the video of the city of Athens. The AirBnB you stayed in was unbelievable. The Greek food looked exceptionally delicious too. I like watching your travel videos because you squeeze every bit out of your trip!
This is what is said about the liqueur which you had at the end of your meal : Mastika or mastiha is a liqueur seasoned with mastic, a resin with a slightly pine or cedar-like flavor gathered from the mastic tree, a small evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region.
Great video….but you missed the best sandwich in Greece. A Porky souvlaki which is roasted marinated pork on a warm pita w the best French fries, tomato, cucumber, tzatziki sauce (no onions for me). In Hawaii they would say, “ono-licious” because it’s just that good. Sadly I cannot find a Greek restaurant in San Diego that serves it.
Yuuuuuum! All that melted cheese. I just got back from 3 months in Cyprus. Every Sunday many butchers shops cooked Kleftico out the back in clay ovens along with Souvlaki. You call up and order in the morning and pick up as a take out. It’s so delicious. I wondered if this was also done in Greece? Today ( Sunday ) I’ve been missing it! If you ask around maybe it’s a thing in Greece too? 🤷🏼♀️ Loved your video-as always. Have the best time!
You guys are adorable! The next Kara and Nate (not that they’ve gone anywhere… still love them too, but I mean it as a compliment)! I found y’all through another one of your Greece tours and just really love your vibe and presentation style! Thank you for presenting Athens (my home base) in such a beautiful light! Well done you, new sub here :)
Loving your videos! Next time try to visit northern Greece where the food and tastes are waaaaayyy better . Really loving your reactions , even with those products and food, which are set in EASY MODE, if you know what i mean. Try northern , and you will not forget it.
The shot you drunk was Mastiha liqueur. Mastiha is called the resin coming from a small tree which grows properly only in Chios island, in Greece and nowhere else in the world. It's a natural chewing gum that is perfect for digestion but we also put it in drinks, food/sweet recipes and cosmetology. I'm sure you had a great time, you seem so nice and cheerful people.
My friend is there now on his own. Greeks asked for a lighter. He said I haven’t got one. They verbally abused him for being English, then got attacked physically for absolutely nothing. His legs, face and ribs are black n blue. Such a nice city 🙄
All that Greek food. Yummy. We arrive in Greece from Australia in 8 weeks. Can't wait. If ever you come to Perth Australia, which may be on your list would be happy to show you around.
And imagine, you ate at the most touristic places in Athens. If you had a local with you, you would have probably eaten even better food at better locations. Thats what Im saying to myself when going abroad. I will never be able to have the full picture without a local.
Very true. We stayed in Nea Pentelli, with my friend Georgette who married a Greek man. He cooked these lovely meals, served at 2PM with a nap afterwards. Such a cool little village. Great little cafes, fabulous bakeries, restaurants that grilled lamb like I’ve never had before. We are going back for orthodox Easter. Yum.
backdoor kitchen. nice title for a cookbook. i like to eat at backdoor kitchen too. that's why i have my gf dont wear anything from the waist down around the house
They even have hiking 🥾 boots/shoes. Did they 🧳 with them very strange but efficient forward thinking planning which I love. Somewhat somehow is subdued in them don't know what it is, something is closed off with them. I just can't put my finger round it!
most greek nowadays drink cold freddo espresso, or freddo capoutsino cold if you like sweeter coffee. So definitely try this in coffee since its an espresso but in a greek way.
Omg...Nashville??? You have to try Pancake Pantry near Vanderbilt!! Also Jack's BBQ!! Emmy squared 🍕!! Five daughters bakery!! Hi Chad and Claire, lovely video. You guys so adorable. I wanted to ask how did you apply for the drone flying permit(recreationally). I am flying from NY for a vacation mid June.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I believe if you are flying recreationally you do not need a permit, but you need to follow general drone rules like flying below 400 feet, away from crowds, and keeping a line of sight. But please do some additional research because we are not experts. :D
