    There AFLs problem with the Buddy trade was that Sydney was using money from the Cost Of Living Allowance which meant the rest of the Sydney list wasn't getting any help with the cost of living in Sydney.

    • @tin-n-tan
      @tin-n-tan 7 днів тому

      Except the COLA was always spent like that, which made the AFL look really stupid.
      And they are stupid.

    • @sammythesloth9408
      @sammythesloth9408 5 днів тому

      Did we ever see any evidence of this? Eddie did use his role in the media to push this accusation while still president of a rival club (without sanction from the AFL, mind you). Any evidence?

    • @drbosommd
      @drbosommd 5 днів тому

      @@sammythesloth9408 the evidence was in the size of the contract. The fact that Sydney was allowed to do this deal was negligence by the AFL . The idea behind COLA was fair and reasonable but the payments should have been made by the AFL not the Sydney clubs.

    • @sammythesloth9408
      @sammythesloth9408 5 днів тому

      @@drbosommd Wow. Some evidence. I would have thought it was up to Sydney to decide the size and length of the contract and then for the AFL to sign off on it (like all contracts). According to your conspiracy theory, if Buddy was receiving more than his share of COLA payments, then all the other players (including their player managers) that missed out on their share would have to have remained tight lipped through the course. Surely some disgruntled player would've come out by now? Ridiculous accusation by Eddie which didn't stack up even to the most basic of analysis.
      As for the size of his contract? If you had any idea about the Swans' list management in the next 4-6 years post signing him, you would know that a heap of players left the club - be it retirement or squeezed out - and virtually no one of note was traded in. Think Goodes, Bolton, McVeigh, Jack, Grundy, Smith, Hannebery (traded), Malceski, Mumford (squeezed), Mitchell (won a Brownlow!) and others. That is, it was a Swans list management decision to tie up their salary cap on this one bloke. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as to whether it was a success. But that's the reality.
      They bottomed out in 2019 and 2020 and filled their team with kids... while he as still playing (back ended deal maybe?)
      At least make an effort to understand the details rather than posting Eddie's nonsense without thinking. Clearly you don't follow the Swans closely, otherwise you would know about these list decisions.

    Interesting about Kelly and the Eagles.... sadly for him, the day he arrived both Shuey and Yeo were out for long periods with injuries soon after he arrived , so we never got to see the three of them play for an extended period to nick that elusive second flag. If he goes to the Dockers good luck to him.. but what will the Eagles get in return? First rounder?? Freo will be right up there next year so I think Kelly at worst gives them some class in the ranks of their depth players... at best he shines in a gun side like he did at Geelong... pick 16 or 17 sounds about right.

    Fogarty is barely a "key" forward. He is a good third tall. It is no coincindence that, this year Adelaide scored almost the same amount of points less than last year as Tex Walker did, Walker in 23 kicked 76/34 compared to 29/20, that is 296 points less. Adelaide in 2023 scored 2193 total points, in 2024 it was 1906, a difference of 287. Fogarty has had his chances to step up and be the key forward, he just isn't.
    Nobody is offering him big money.

      @@MrBarry465 I am not saying that he wouldn't get offers, he would, but they wouldn't be huge, they would be realistic and see him as a perfect third tall, or a good second tall who can demand enough attention so opposition backs find it difficult to zone off and go third man up. He will never be the main key forward, nobody is thinking they can build a forward line around him. He doesn't get to enough contests, his second efforts are poor, he won't chase for more than 15 meters. His two way running is non existent, he has taken the ball out of defensive fifty less than ten times in his entire career.
      He is good overhead, in a contest and quick on short leads and one of the best shots at goal in the league from any angle when kicking from inside 50.
      He did kick 40+ goals this year but that was from the same amount of scoring shots as last year. There is no room for that to keep improving as it only improved by better accuracy. There is no upward trajectory in his possession count, it has been about 6 kicks and 4 handballs per game for his entire career.
      The only thing delusional here is the long list of teams lining up to give him $1mil/year contract.

His lack of a tank that would allow him to get to more contests? I am just realistic about what he is, do you believe he can become the main key forward target somewhere? Why haven't teams come knocking already? It is hardly standard practice to wait for free agency. I have not heard even a vague rumour about him in any trade period, yet I am supposed to believe that somebody will offer $1mil+/year to a guy that they were not willing to trade for.
      There are enough players out there that could be recruited to play a second or third tall role that are not going to cost the Earth.
