Always use a catch pan when heating a beaker. The direct heat can break the beaker, if this happens the solutiin will be caught by the catch pan
Also it can boil over.

It looks like other metals besides gold are being removed when dipped in the acid bath? Is this correct? Would a lower current/voltage fix this? Does it even matter?

What kind of nitric acid is used to gold recovery and silver recovery
Too much work for so little gold. I collect these, too. But I don't know when or if I'll ever refine them. The reagents used eat up almost all the value if the gold there...
Maybe I'll cast them into anodes and make a copper refining cell. If you can cast the result into millberry quality it is worth the time and the gold is a bonus in the anode slimes.

If you pop the chip off the heatsink, how much gold is on the chip and between the chip and heatsink?
Quickest way to remove the chip is to heat them to loosen the solder.
There are various kinds of CPU in the scrap market.These CPUs contains different amounts of gold.You better check our other videos about the CPUs
