My Polish grandparents' wedding reception in 1929 lasted 3 days.
Thanks for posting this, the Polish weddings from my childhood are some of the best memories I have.

I totally agree with all the comments. The bride dances well enough to be one of the Polonaise group? The groom was good also and you could feel how much he was on a cloud that day. I've watched it over and over and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Jimmy Sturr is so special as well and is still the best by far. Just a treat for me

My blood comes right off the border of Poland and Slovakia. I have both polish and Slovakian cousins!
I love this music!!!! I play the accordion as well.
I was privileged to play my clarinet at Wurstfest with Jimmy sturr in 2012!

IMO, the Jimmy Sturr Orchestra is perfection, they possess a smooth and flowing tempo and watch the fabulous Polonaise Dancers, they are Polka Hopping on air !!!. This is First Class. Heaven at its very best. It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you for allowing me to post at this video. ~Joe W.

This video is awesome! The Polonaise Dancers are fantastic! Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra performed well. I've been to several Polish weddings in Indiana with Polish polka bands, but have never seen a Polish wedding reception quite like this one. This wedding reception had to cost some serious zloty!

This video has no million dollar special effects and no academy award winning actors but it's nontheless the finest 15 minutes ever recorded on film. None of the terrors of history can ever crush the spirit of the Poles. And Jesus may have made the lame get up and walk, but Jimmy Sturr (an Irishman!) could make them polka! The best wedding party ever--I hope the bride and groom have had a happy life together.

I assume the Bride and Groom danced with this dance troupe? Usually you have to either hire a troupe, or else, if they all showed up, they would be doing it celebrating the marriage of 1 or 2 of their dancing companions getting hitched. Of course, back in the day, all you needed to do was tell someone "my sister or my cousin" (or whomever, most everyone knew each other from School, growing up together in the 'hood or Church.) is getting married and you'd have at least 300-500 people there at the drop of a hat. That's the way Polish Weddings were when I was growing up. Fun times w/the family!

    • @stanleykijek325

Expenses were much, much cheaper. The cooks who worked at the weddings were paid a pittance, food was much cheaper, the bride and groom ordered enough for several hundred people, there was no charging 'by the plate' as has been the standard practice for many years now, weddings were held in church or fire halls---nothing fancy but it was the cheaper way to go and have a lot of people attend weddings. Everyone came--kids, babies, the very old. It really was a better time back then.
