3 MONTH SURF PROGRESSION | Adv Beginner To Intermediate Female

- Surfing progression tends to happen in stages. You improve your surfing in bursts followed by plateaus which is typical of an extreme sport without a repetitive playing environment.
In this video we track one of my coaching clients 3 month's progress from advanced beginner to intermediate. I'm super pumped with her progress!

They hung for hours!
@Ettienne Van Wyk same lol
I love how well Kale explains the video with not only words but illustrations as well. Helps visual learners like me comprehend it and learn faster. Thanks for the great content dude keep it up.
Thank you!
Being a “visual learner” is a made up thing
@@manfromwuhan714 haha ikr, everybody learns better if they also see a video so they know wtf is meant
You have inspired me Kale to think more when surfing thank you. Especially the bigger waves 321 go. My self belief confidence and knowledge have all improved because of your videos
I've been quite frustrated with myself recently as I've hit a big plateau in my surfing ability. I always feel like I should be better than I am having been surfing for about a year and a half. thanks Kale for reminding us how frequent plateaus and frustration can be while helping us to make leaps In our surfing abilities one video at a time!!
Love this! Definitely think an intermediate to inter-advanced progression would also be great 😊
Generally takes a lot longer
Omg i really enjoyed watching that because most of the surf videos and tutorials out there show already very good surfers or complete beginners!
Excellent video Kale! Your videos have helped me to really grasp the basics of surfing & progress with confidence. Love your content.
Awesome Toby!! So good!
Loved to see that progression... You both did an amazing job!
Thanks for sharing, it boosts my will to progress although I'm forced to practice on concrete only.
the side-by-side analysis is so great...keep it up!!
Best video yet. It's one thing to watch Kale shred but watching a student learn and put his tips into practice is even more educational. Thanks Kale!
🙌🏽
Stellar work Kale. You have nailed it . Excellent use of analytical tools to improve each session. You never stop learning.
Anyone including myself watching this can benefit enormously from this video and each technical break down. I'm a believer.
That’s awesome Charlotte!!
Hi Kales, I just wanted to thank you for the amount of work you’re doing to help everyone. I personally saw such a big difference in my surfing since I started to watch your channel. My surfing definitely improved thanks to you, making my basics stronger and pushing me to develop other techniques I didn’t have before. So thank you for the time you spend, your work is quality and I am sure you will do even better in the future. I now know who to contact if I ever need surf lesson in Australia. Cheers from France 🤙🏻
Merci mec! That’s awesome I’m super stoked. Je veux habite dans la Hossegor l’anneé prochaine! A bientot!
This is excellent analysis and details. What I really enjoyed is the ability to see the progression of a surfer with the visuals and the analysis and narration of what was happening. Also good to get an idea of what intermediate looks like and where to go. The surf skate tips are also excellent Kale and the linking between the ocean and the hard stuff is really great. Thanks heaps mate.
🙌🏽
Really needed this! Thank you for explaining this so clearly!
This is so helpful to watch, jus going over beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers you work with is very helpful to pick things up surfers can relate too while seeing in your videos! I loved to watch her progress overtime very motivating too
🙌🏽🎉
I always thought that debutant couldn’t surf shortboards until they became at least intermediate but this girl did an amazing job ! Her progression is so motivating I planned to start surfing next summer I hope I will be able to do as good as her she’s really inspiring ! Thank you for this video !
Love this video! really nice to see the step by step progression. Keep u the good work!
🙌🏽
Yew yeah Kale! Best part of any board sport is celebrating the minor progressions! Stoked for her!!
🎉
She is awesome. She is really trying hard and despite nose diving she just keeps at it. I am at the same level right now, just able to pick up on unbroken waves but still diving and it is definitely commitment to keep getting tossed like thst
You go girl! You crushed it!
She did!
Love her determination!
@@KalesBroccoli what’s that skate board mate ? Great videos btw
This is great! It's easier for me to compare what's right from wrong, rather than just show what's right. Surfing every day down in SoCal and improving thanks to your videos! Keep up the stellar work!
🙌🏽🎉
I find the plateau situation true for me. I improved then plateau lose some confidence then improve again. It’s a never ending cycle.
Yep. Me too.
Defiantly not alone!
Thanks for all the great tutorials Kale
I have my first surf lesson on Monday 🔥🔥
nice video Kales im working on my surfing progression video now cant wait to send it you!
This is quality content! Thanks Kale. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Peter!!
I can’t get enough of your content kale!! You make me froth so hard on improving my skill level!
Thanks brother
living up to your name lol
Super nice documenting footage of the progression. Really like it!
Glad I bought a surfer skateboard, it's fun and also keeps me alive since I don't live on the coast.
Although, there's a stationary wave nearby and this is helping me out to progress my turning skills.
Thanks Kalesbroccoli, I'll stay tuned
Awesome!!
I would love to be half as good as her. She's obviously a very good listener and very dedicated
Yeah she’s killed it with commitment and love for it!
Nice vid. Stance is so important. A strict squat stance gives you no room for shoulders and hips to rotate, whereas a stance closer to a lunge allows for shoulders to be almost square to nose of board during compression and for more natural rotation of shoulders and upper body through turns. Took me years to work out proper functional stance. In fact, still working on it!
Hey man, just wanted to say awesome videos! That lady made it look easy too! I’ve just picked up surfing having not done it since I was a kid and your videos are super helpful, keep up the great work! 🤙🏼
Thanks man!
And it’s the first time I hear that surf progression is usually slow!!! Cause I feel exactly the same, like I’m improving and then I suddenly feel like a beginner again. All of a sudden I can do turns on one day and on the other I can’t even pop up 😒😂 and I always thought that it was just me and that everybody else was already a pro😂
🙌🏽
Lol I’m the SAME WAY!!! I’m just a very very new beginner, like 2 lessons new but same! One day I can pop up and the next I cant lol but I love it lol
to me it hard to pop up on bigger waves like 2-3 because I always feel like I’m gonna nose dive any suggestions?
@@diegomeda5677 If you feel like you're going to nose dive, push your upper body up away from the board as if you were going to pop up. This will stop you from nose diving :)
Maddie Riley ok thanks for the help!
Love your vids Kale, can’t wait for the next one
Thanks!! Lots coming!!
This is a fantastic break down - nice work!
Another great video Kale! I watched a video or two of my surfing from the first week compared to last weekend, what a difference 8 months can make. Pretty nuts.
Nice!! Yes it’s crazy to see!
Great video - thanks Kale!
lovely made, i almost screamed at the screen, as she did the last turn. nice progress, love your vids
I share these with friends great job thanks 🙏
Such a great video.. Really insightful.
Please keep these also free.. Really helpful, as some of us are really not in a position to get involved with the petreon..
Really appreciated
There’ll Lways be some free content here
She done bloody well.! You can tell she's got guts and determination
Hey Kale! I am a beginner-intermediate surfer and am finding your videos really helpful! Hopefully I can put your tips to use tomorrow as it will be my first surf for the season :D Looking forward to getting back out there!
That’s great Jess!!! Xx
You’re an awesome dude. I wish I could surf with you one day and learn some things
kale ur a legend your tips help me with my with my surfing over all so much and so i scored my first legit hang 5 the other day 🤙🤙
Nice!!
incredible - this is so helpful
This is brilliant because your Breaking this down really well to learn and progress do you reckon you could do a video on long boarding progression
Thanks for the inspiration my man, much appreciated
🙌🏽
its just beautiful to see her progress. Please congratulate her for me
Just got to love those dolphins in the background at 9:44 and the chilling music + some great moves loving her progression story - right off for a surf 5ft and pumping! :)
🙌🏽
wonderfully clear :3 thanks a lot for that :)
Top Kales! Really useful. Greetings from Italy🤙🏻
Graci.
Kale
This was so informative to see this progression on a more average surfer. Heaps easier to relate to than someone who can bust airs like they're no big deal 😝
🎉
Great Video!!!!! this helped me sooooo much!!!! keep it up. thank-you
Awesome!
thanks again Broccoli thats an inspiration to me because I am also trying to progress like her. I will check out your Vimeo !

Great progress!
She is a legend! Legend teacher yeeew!
🙌🏽
Just at where I am as a surfer , need to improve usage of the wave. Only
Using the bottom part of the wave - need focus on where my eyes goes and rotation of upper body and arms. Thank you for the videos !
🎉🎉
Thanks. Love the video.
Please do more adv beginner to intermediate 🤙
Great video. Thank you!
Awesome job Kale!!!
😍
Most important video I’ve watched in years
Awesome
Amazing content, thank you so much! Your videos have been a huge help to my surfing journey. I'm currently happily stuck in Bali and looking to take a surfing lesson. What do you think are some of the things to look for when one is choosing a surf instructor or a program? (especially as a beginner-intermediate surfer who is looking to improve on cutbacks and other vertical surfing abilities). You have a really observant and dedicated way of looking at surf coaching, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers!
Great video cheers for the tips, when do you know to come off a foamie and upgrade to a fiber?
Has no one else notice the dolphin at 9:40 ? Such a great vid 🤙
are we not going to talk about the dolphin in the background at 9:39 btw love the vids
Beautiful hey
@@KalesBroccoli is the fin at 10:04 a dolphin too?
Or the shark? at 10:42
J Bernard not a shark...
That's awesome so happy for her
🙌🏽
Excellent video as usual.
Thanks!!
Rly cool intro, usually I just skip intros from people but yours is rly good
🥰
The dolphin! So epic, this some game of thrones shit dude, best educational video I've ever seen. Keep it up
bro thanks, this really help me
this is awesome. she must have been so hyped
I'm going to do my first surf on Friday. 🙂
09.41 lol a dolphin analyses her progression!!! Great content as usual!!!
very good videos, well explained and visual examples. I am progressing slow but it won´t stop me, when are you coming to Perú? cheers from Perú
What a sick improvement!
🙌🏽🏄🏼♂️
Pretty sick video bro! This is the kinda stuff missing when it comes to surfing progression videos and tips on youtube. Glad you found a little niche! 🤙🏾 , also just wondering but where are those waves shown in the video? Would love to visit them next time i’m in aus 🏄🏾♂️💯
Sydney :) thanks man!!
Thanks so much for this video, this is incredibly useful!! It's so hard to find content on what is exactly the path between catching the first unbroken waves and the advanced maneuvers..like what happens in the middle?! Finally a very well documented answer! And kudos to your surfer, she rips!!! Is it possible to know how much she surfed on her own between the sessions with you?
I think it is fair to say she surfed 3-5x per week :)
As on the skateboard, you are using your back leg to create power / thrust. Try using your back foot / leg when turning around from your re-entry , after you've completed your bottom turn and are starting to come down from the top of the wave. Don't put all your weight on / over your front foot or you'll lean forward and fall off. push down with your back leg as you turn back to the wave. Remember your body will follow your EYES.
Thank you
Kale, what type of skateboard did you have her practice on???! I feel I’m in the same position and need a skateboard to improve. Many thanks 🙏🏼 😘just subscribed and went down an hour long rabbit hole of watching your videos 💁🏻♀️
first time here, trying to learn. Subscribed. But can you tell me which first 3 videos to watch in order ? there are several and I don't know which are for beginners and non.beginners. Thanks!
Mate tommorrow is our second swell we have had all year pretty much and we only get the right winds when its like head high waves
Great improvement! Her skill level she’d improve a lot faster on a funshape.
Hey Kale! Awesome video and I had a quick question. Is the difference between the two surfers at 10:35 mainly speed and rotation? Which one do you think mattered more in this case?
Hi Kale, I am reading your different Patron possibilities and I would like to know the differences from Official to All-acces Patrons. Do you have videos and content like this video for the Official Patrons? Thanks a lot for the good content and keep it up!
Hey Kale, thanks that’s super helpful video! May I have two questions please?
- how many times per week did you practice, approximately?
- would these tips work as well on a 8,7 soft board? (The bottom turn, etc.)
Thx! And have a good day shredding!
Amazing!
How are you guys filming your training sessions? What camera are you using? Looks awesome!
Awesome video! What board is she using??
I've been surfing for 5 months and I struggle to stand I can stand and pump a wave but I don't get good positioning and I have a bad stance when I surf I also put my back foot on the board first which locks my hips as u have said in one of your other videos do you have any tips ?
Hey, do you think that If you already Skatebaorded for years so you Bring a Very good Sense for Balance you have good prerequisites to learning how to Surf quickly?
This is so sick to see dude good stuff.
Nice one.
The way you explain it is very nice now I understand much better how I can correct my mistakes. What is the length of the surfboard that she uses?
5’9 I think , 30L in volume
What surfboard shape size and volume was she using ? compared to her own height and weight ?
Thanks
Very nice videos. I have a question: what many wave styles does it have? I mean, can you make a video about the anatomy of the waves.
No sorry
Can you talk about back foot positioning and putting your weight back through turns. I find I am also to forward on my board
Focus on eyes and shoulders
Maybe I would have progressed that fast if the breaks I went to were as empty as those! Even with it being a bit messy I haven't seen much of Sydney with so few people
A lot more than just good timing here.
Yeah, empty lineup means more waves = more practice
