- Are you planning to set up a hydroponic farm? But you do not have any idea of the budget?
We have a curated video for all hydroponic enthusiasts to help them understand how much it may cost to set up a one-acre hydroponic farm in India at the current cost structure (June 2022).
This video explains different types of poly houses like flat root net houses, naturally ventilated poly houses, and climate-controlled poly houses along with their setup costs. A detailed cost of the hydroponic structures like Deep water culture (DWC), Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), and Dutch Bucket can also be understood.
Sure, you will be surprised to know the cost variations. Just for example a 15 Lakh variation in setup cost can be observed in just deciding on the level of automation you wish to have for your dream farm.

If I want to do such a setup at a smaller scale, let's say for R&D, what are the main pain points to be aware of upfront. Like if i want to do it in UP, there will be issue with electricity, in certain parts of the state, extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain and flood like conditions to extreme heat in different seasons. And how i can come to terms with these and other risk factors if any. Thanks a lot for the informative content.
For every issue you should decide on the best alternative amongst all possible. For example, to avoid issues due to electricity fluctuations, you should choose DWC over NFT. For water logging - raise the platform or do the setup at a higher ground or create gutter channels around the polyhouse. For heat - use from multiple options that are used for temperature control and choose temperature hardy crops instead of exotic temperate climate ones.
@@citygreens2235 thank you for the meaningful insights. :)
Half acre valley at kodaikanal. Cool breezy weather. First time investor. How much should i set my budget? What should be my first crop? I believe there is a learning curve.
Start from the crop/market first. What is it that you will grow and can sell easily.
Setup for leafy - budget may go to 100 L. For vegetable crops - around 60 oddL. If you can increase the size to around 3/4 acre - you can get subsidy from Govt as well.
Very nice explanation … I have 3 acres of land in Ajmer. Rajasthan and I am interested to grow crops from either hydroponics or aquaponics.
Climate conditions.
Winter : 5°C to 15°C
Summer 25°C to 50°C
Please do suggest what is better for me ?
Managing production in summer will be tough. Go for low cost net house kind of setup. In winters grow a high value crop. In summers you can grow chillies or cucumbers or brinjal as one short cycle crop. In monsoon don’t grow anything.
Brilliant. Can you please recommend some reading material on hydroponic for beginners?
There are many basic courses on google. Try taking one online.
Sir I am based out in ballari Karnataka where temperature is high during summer as high as 40 degree so which crops are suitable for hydroponic farming?
You should go for vining crops. Cucumber family, tomato family and hot peppers can work for you.
U cud directly mention the lowest cost ,mid and highest cost and then tell the reason in th rest of the story.. these days 8 minutes is too a long videos cos most of the people in Yt are bullsit . People may be already tires of searching good videos and then land in your video..
Hii im from raichur are u started hydroponic farming?
How do pistacio and other nuts grow in your area?
they are high end product, and should do well on a drop system, if water is available
Nice
Is this setup covers under any insurance plan provide by govt or private players??
I am looking to start hydroponic farm in four acres of land near Gurgaon!!
You may get private insurance for infrastructure but not for farming / crops per se.
How much amount will increase if we go for aquaponic setup fully auto & climate control?
We have not done any Aquaponics set up yet so we wouldn’t know.
Hello sir i am from punjab and i interested this type of farming and do you provide any traning for the knowledge of hydrophonics farming
We used to buy are not able to now because of low bandwidth. But you can continue to follow our channel for learnings.
Can we grow potato in hot summer season by using hydroponic/aro phonics system
Aeroponics is used to grow seeds of potato. For full size potatoes - hydroponics can be used.
But it will be more cost effective to grow them in soil during season and then preserve them in cold storage - than growing in summer in hydroponics. If you have a profitable business case - I’m yes we can grow them off-season using our technology.
Hi I am from Madhya Pradesh i want to know if there is any government subsidy or subsidy from your side is available in installation of hydroponic set up?( For BPL farmers)
Because in country like India for a farmer it is more than his lifetime income. How one can afford this.
Because
Yashwant ji. Unfortunately no. Govt subsidy provided only partial support.
Beautifully explained and much appreciated. I wish somehow we could bring the cost down to a level where every poor kissan could reap the benefits of this technology and rise above poverty instead of succumbing to it by committing suicide- 1 farmer every hour in India. Help!!!!
We are working on one solution for same in our research centre. We hope to be able to bring some short term changes in next 6-8 months and long term, large scale impact in next 2-3 years v
Do you provide training? And technical support
We provide 1 year of support for the farms we setup. We do not offer training programs per se. But we do conduct business seminar for people who want to enter hydroponics business.
@@citygreens2235 What is included in the setup and how much does it cost?

How much revenue can I expect if I invest 50 lakhs for the setup on a 1 acre area? I want to start hydroponics, just seeking some guidance .
Between 12 L to 36 L per annum depending upon what crop you are growing and at what price you are selling it to which consumer segment.
Can we grow chillies using this technique
Yes sir. All plants of pepper family (including chillies) can be grown in hydroponics.

Where to learn
There are many resources available online. You can also start with small home kits to experience hydroponics at low cost. Once you are sure you can engage with professional companies to set up hydroponics for you.
What's the return on investment
Between 20% to 30% + it is tax free.
Do you provide courses?
We do a business seminar for folks interested in setting up business in hydroponics. It covers a field tour but we do not provide a course or training if that’s what you are looking for.
Details of seminar are available on our website
I envy people who can grow in the Indian sun.
you can even grow algea or sunflower for bio fuel production
Well - at times it’s difficult due to too much sun. But we are blessed with both extremes of weather. Yes algae and sunflower grows too.
Best of luck with your projects, an envious dutch cowboy
Very nicely explained... thanx .. how can I speak to u
Thanks Akshay,

what is aeroponics?do you deal with it?
In aeroponics instead of water (like in hydroponics) the roots are suspended in air itself.
The nutrient is given through a fine mist which increases absorption from roots and allows for higher availability of oxygen. This leads to faster growing time.
Yes. We do deal in aeroponic.
@CityGreens Thank you sir

Our farmers are protesting on road for msp.. How can this system with too mich invesent thrive.. It will be a debt trap.. Please dear farmers try not to fall
Agree. This is not for traditional farming / cereals etc. this is only for specific horticulture crops.
You forgot to say the income that one can get from this..
Income is a tricky one. What sells in B2B for 150₹ a kg sells in B2C for 600₹ a kg.
Income varies by models. We cover these in detail in the seminars we do.
