I just purchased one of these sight unseen, didn’t look at any reviews, nothing. I started looking at some of the reviews And started to get a little nervous. All the mosquito failure to feed, failure to eject, etc. freaking me out, then I saw this review and I feel so much better now. Thanks for doing such a great job and I really appreciate you.

I wanted a Mosquito for years but I heard all the same things. When I heard that the Firefly was an improved Mosquito, I got one. Since GSG fixed all the issues, the Firefly has become one of my favorite .22 semi auto pistols. It's a little too big to EDC but it's loads of fun and gas been very reliable. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching too!

Hands down the best review of this pistol. Those failure to fires (that you sometimes get with rimfire) really make me appreciate the double action of this pistol in the event that would happen. Very well done, sir!

I absolutely love my Firefly. Surprisingly I just encountered the first ammo problem with it. I bought some of the Winchester silver tips because they are supposedly "designed specifically for semi auto 22 pistols". It absolutely will not cycle them with either recoil spring. It ejects the round bit doesn't chamber the next. I've tried many, many different 22 rounds and never had a single failure to cycle before the silver tips.

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  3 роки тому +1

I had issues with the Silver Tips and the Federal Punch 22' in a couple small semi autos. I think the best use for them would be in a revolver. They're optimized for short barrels but I don't think the do well in semi autos, at least that's my opinion. Stick to what works and I'm sure you'll be happy with your Firefly, I am. Enjoyed the review on this gun. Got one 2 weeks ago. I tweaked the magazine and polished the feed ramp, also racked the slide 1000 times. 200 rds. of different types 1250 fps and up ammo. Not one failure of any kind. I'm sure I'll run across a bad rd. here and there but I really like it. Feels very good in my hand for sure..

Had mine a year and a half. Polished the feed ramp before I fired it. Did have a fail to eject problem, turns out to be mill marks on the hammer face was causing drag on the slide. Put mothers polishing compound on the hammer face and cycled it till the marks were polished off, now it runs great and handles standard velocity ammo without having to change the recoil spring.

I enjoy your reviews I guess because I enjoy rim fire as it is affordable. Thunderbolt is cheap ammo, but I haven’t had many problems with it over the years. When I zero in a rim fire scope, I use CCI because it seems it’s more accurate. I have recently used Fiocchi ammo with good success and it runs clean. There's so many negative reviews on this gun and then I watch yours and with a tear down, clean and lube and without any break in you have really fine performance and with Remington ammo no less which has it's own negative reviews. I'm looking at a "Mauser" M2 which is the same gun just labeled differently. LGS has it for 224.00. The one mag only is a bummer tho. I guess at that price I can afford to buy one and then maybe the after market kits to make it 16 rounds. I think GSG makes fine weapons. I bought a GSG AK and I've not had 1 issue with it thru the first 250 rounds of mixed ammo including std velocity and even some "match" ammo which slower yet. Everything fed, fired and extracted perfectly. So much fun banging gongs rapid fire. I think I'll take the plunge on this.

I've had this gone for months and learned more in 20 minutes about it than I have the whole time I've had it. Just not a gun that crosses my mind much unless I'm pressed for cash💰 and need some cheap ammo to goof off with. I live in CA. With all that’s going on I understand chaos breeds opportunists. I never liked guns, but decided it’s better to get one while I can, as they are flying off the shelves here and with that the prices are insane. I was able to purchase this firearm for home defense. I have watched many videos on this firearm and I’ve come to one conclusion...it seems everyone has a different opinion😆I am forced to have a very close relationship with my GSG. My priority is to be a responsible owner and looking at the laws here, I’m kind of taken aback. Discussion for another time. As a newbie, the one thing that always puzzles me is the way 22lr’s are looked down on for defense, yet no one is willing to be a splatter target. It’s almost as if people would rather shoot a canon than practice the skill of shooting. I guess I get it, you want to stop the threat completely. The first thing I realized is this is not the movies. Live rounds will injure or kill you, accidentally or intentionally. So my intention is to group as much as possible with this pistol. I have small hands so it’s comfortable and I can handle the recoil. I plan to graduate to a higher caliber if I can find the right feel in my hand. This was a great video! I have only put a little under 200 rounds through mine, but the break down of the gun was good for me. I was intimidated, but you did it with such ease! Now I have to learn how to clean it. Thanks so much for the knowledge.

Congratulations on your Firefly! I know enough about California gun laws to know I wouldn't want to live there. There will always be the debate about stopping power of a particular caliber, but remember, nobody wants extra holes in their body, regardless of the caliber. Practice safety, that's the most important thing then proficiency.
Glad I was able to help with the takedown of the Firefly and I hope I can be of help if you decide on a larger caliber firearm in the future!

I recently bought a used Firefly and it must have watched your video, because it followed the script perfectly. I had the same failure to fire problems you had, though I did inspect the first two (one was ammo related and one was a definite light strike) after that I just pulled the trigger again like you did. I even had it shooting low like you did (5 to 6 inches low at 25 yds.) I didn't get the box or magazine with it so I had to order the low sight and a couple of magazines so I'm hoping the lower sight fixes the aim point problem. @@SmallCaliberArmsReview well that's my current problem, I can't find any! I only have one 500 ct box but a TON of Winchester. I even have 300 rounds of CCI MM and that doesn't even cycle as well as the Thunderbolts. I really want to love this gun, but when you have 4000 rounds and only 500 will cycle through it, that's not a good thing. Fortunately, I also bought a Ruger SR22 and that thing spits out anything I feed it. Hopefully I can find more Thunderbolts soon. Thanks for the video!

I think that gun is doing a good job, and you are doing a good job too. Thumbs up. I like that pistol. I had a PMR-30, spent 700$ upgrading it and it still was a POS. Traded for a Ruger 6 shooter that i keep it in my safe, take it to the Range and at 10 yard for a one arm guy like me is very accurate. My carrying gun is a Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 acp with three Wilson combat magazines, one is 7 rounds the other two are 8 rounds, i carry one in the chamber plus the 7 rounds magazine, i take it apart every time i shoot it, i had it since 20 years ago. I feel very comfortable with it, i know people like the high capacity magazines, but i am a beliver that if the guns feels like a glove and your shooting are pretty accurate, the high capacity is not important for me, unless i am going to face a gang. Then i will taķe my Canik TP9SF 18 rds magazines that i have enough. I never buy a gun that i can't disassemble. The hardest gun is the Ruger Mrk II, I belive. That one is a sweetheart. That one looks like a German Luger, it takes me 30 min to take it apart and clean it, i put a red dot and it shoots right on.

The Firefly is a pretty cool pistol, I really like mine. I have a CMR and PMR 30, they can be very finicky but can be fun too. I agree with you about a gun fitting like a glove, when they feel right, they usually shoot right too. I have also heard stories about the Ruger Mk 1-3 disassembly and reassembly but have not experienced it for myself. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching too!

Actually, the serial number would probably be: GERG2210XXXX. the XXXX would be the descriptor such as FF (firefly) FFG (firefly green) FFL ((firefly purple) lavender I presume) FFM (firefly mint) FFT (firefly tan) TFF (threaded firefly) TFFL (threaded firefly purple) TFFM (threaded firefly mint) TFFT (threaded firefly tan)
It seems the all have the same model number and the last 2-4 letters describe the color and whether or not it has a threaded barrel.

Me personally, I'm not a fan of open carry and that's only because I don't know who's looking at me at any given moment. If someone sees you with a gun on your side you could either become a deterrent or a target. I'm not against open carry at all, that's just my preference. As far as carrying the Firefly, It is a .22 and it's effectiveness in self defense has been debated since about 1884. For sporting purposes, the GSG Firefly is a fantastic firearm with great fit, finish and functionality! I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

1a: a piece of ordnance usually with high muzzle velocity and comparatively flat trajectory
b: a portable firearm (such as a rifle or handgun)
      c: a device that throws a projectile
