I’ve polished the feed ramp on a few of my guns. Didn’t change the performance of the guns but did make it easier to see the dirt on the ramps when cleaning.
I'd guess that half of all feed issues aren't so much mechanical, as they are THIS right here, it's one place that manufacturers save money, especially on budget models. I do this, to a minor degree on every firearm I've ever owned(that had a ramp), and I've yet to have a feed issue I can blame on the weapon. Currently, my G3C had very minor issues with hesitant feeds(never failed, just the feel was off), it was 100% a fault on the feed ramp, I think it took me 5 minutes to fix, and hundreds of rounds later I still love the little pistol, and have 100% confidence in it. You do not need a razor sharp entry to the ramp btw, that alone could create problems with any lead tip defensive rounds, or lightly crimped rounds depending on your firearm, and feed angle. Don't forget that little bit of work on the entry also helps with extraction! Regardless of the firearms price, I would always inspect, and pay some attention to it, if applicable.
i bought a g3c as my first pistol. 9 times out of 10 it will fail to feed any kind of hollow point, it obviously gets caught on the feed ramp. any FMJ its 100% fine never fails.. just hollows.. going to polish it and hope it helps lol
Ask any competent gunsmith if polishing the feed ramp to a striker fired pistol helps. Every single one of them will tell you absolutely not and that you're now introducing more points of failure. It's purely esthetic. If your firearm isn't feeding its not because of a feed ramp. The only time this will work hand in and is specific 1911 or similar pistols and that's just to further insure the feeding of defensive rounds.
@@TheHobbyGunsmith I have polished the ramp barrel & it's really pretty. Changed the sights also. It came with a Viliadum laser on the trigger guard. I have this as a save my ass weapon. No time for toys.

On 1911s I also polish the extractor hook, by hand. Wrap a needle file with a cleaning patch that has been charged with the polishing compound and work it inside the hook and the lower edge where the rim feeds up into the hook. I do this, and use Wilson Combat mags, and every 1911 that has had this treatment works perfectly after that.

Chamber polish on a pistol might be okay (I don't know), but on a rifle chamber it's advised against because the chamber texture helps grab and hold the casing lessening bolt head fatigue/damage and it assists in the sealing of the chamber preventing gas blowback.

Most felt bobs start breaking down and especially if you're polishing brand new factory fresh parts, they tend to be very sharp and precise which will start making the Bob spray little bits of the felt everywhere and you don't want that in your gun
I normally only have to do it once. i dont think once its been smoothed out you would have to repeat unless you somehow manage to rough up that surface which is very unlikely.
Hey J.W. you can find tge set of bobs for the rotary tool linked in the description. Id say go with the size that fits nicely in your barrel. There really isnt any caliber specific
How does polishing the chamber not change the actual characteristics of the chamber? If the chamber is at the limit of spec, by polishing it you are oversizing the chamber. Will this not create the chance for ruptured cases and gas blowing back?
The rotary tool you use in the video is not the same as the rotary tool you have in the description. I want to know where to get the one you used in the video?

Great video. Do they make caliber specific felt bobs I need to polish my p22
Normally the sets come with different sizes. i just look for one that fits right.
I did polish my unused Taurus barrel without the cleaning and like to thank you for the helpful tip!
Glad i was able to help my friend.
Thank you so much for this!

@@Pynaegan LMAO!!!
New subscriber, great video!
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
How many times should you polish the ramp and chamber? Just once or every after hunders of rounds?
I normally only have to do it once. i dont think once its been smoothed out you would have to repeat unless you somehow manage to rough up that surface which is very unlikely.

Very well done vid! I have an M&P .45 pistol. Can u tell me the correct size of felt-bob to use for the chamber and/or where to purchase them? Thnx.👍
Hey J.W. you can find tge set of bobs for the rotary tool linked in the description. Id say go with the size that fits nicely in your barrel. There really isnt any caliber specific
Can you reuse the felt tips for future polishing? Or is it 1 and done?
yes you can reuse the felt tips multiple times, just use the same polish do not cross contaminate with other products.
Good question I thought the same thing
How does polishing the chamber not change the actual characteristics of the chamber? If the chamber is at the limit of spec, by polishing it you are oversizing the chamber. Will this not create the chance for ruptured cases and gas blowing back?
When your polishing the chamber you are not removing enough material to cause any issues, your going with very very fine grit polishing compound.
Looks great! What about using Flitz ?
Should work just fine.
I use flitz. Works great.
The rotary tool you use in the video is not the same as the rotary tool you have in the description. I want to know where to get the one you used in the video?
They are availble from foredom or through amazon. Look up Foredom rotary tool
Absolutely delicious.
Thank You, glad you enjoyed it.
