Thank you so much for your video. I almost bought the newest chromecast device, thinking that my surface pro 6 did not support miracast. Watching your video and following the shortcuts, it turns out my Surface can connect to TV screen just fine. Your video is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for making them.
So if I could get a portable display with a battery and a touchscreen and I use this dongle to connect to my PC I'd get a Windows tablet basically. Right?
Hi. I have a HP all in one, and it doesn’t find the surface book and I cant connect it to use the surface book as a second monitor. But if i use the surface book as primary it does connects and I can use the HP as a second monitor for the surface. Do you how i can fix this?
It's technically possible to make that work, but not with the Microsoft adapter shown in the video. The SMART Board needs to be plugged into your device with USB to pass through the touch features. It is possible to do that with Miracast (it's called 'touch back') but the Miracast adapter would need to support a USB connection. The Microsoft Wireless Adapters don't have the USB Port required. What Miracast adapter do you have?
Thanks for this.. I have been trying to connect my sp7 to Sony Briva TV, but both screens go dark/blank when is connected however, i can "cast" browser tap which means wireless connection is working fine but screen mirroring has some sort of error? Any advice? Thanks
Hi I noticed when connected to an external display you have black vertical bars down either side of the screen. I have a SP 5 and SP 7 and when I use the adaptor with the SP 5 I get these black vertical bands the same as you, but when I use it with the SP 7 it gives me full screen. I have checked settings on both machines and the resolution is identical, have also looked for driver and firmware updates but no matter what I try I can't get it to utilise the full screen. If I choose extend screen it will go full screen. I used this adapter on a daily basis pre pandemic when teaching on a college and don't remember these black bars.
When you're duplicating your screen you'll get black bars because your Surface display is 3:2, but your average TV or monitor is 16:9. They don't fit either way, hence the black bars. The solution is to use extended desktop. Then windows will use the correct resolution on both displays.
Many thanks for your reply. That's what I though too, but strange that the SP 7 fills the screen when wireless and it has same aspect ratio as the SP 5 I believe.
@@oztabletpc I should add, I am able to connect to my Samsung TVs wirelessly straight out the box. But it's not 4k.. it's recommended is 1920x1080 and I can push it up to a 2560 x 1440. Pretty cool I can do that right out the box but wonder if the mira cast or other option would work. When I am in that wireless mode with my bluetooth mouse and keyboard it is pretty good, as I can essentially draw on the tablet as I like and surf or do other tasks in the main screen with the mouse and keyboard; almost like 2 separate computers.
Hey!! Great video! Does this device connect wirelessly to a macbook pro just like chromecast or apple tv? Does it have any latency issues when used to project movies or videos? Would you recommend this device for such use over chromecast?
A question about resolutions, if using extend mode from Windows 10, should I be able to see all resolutions the TV supports up to 4K? If so any clues why I only see up to 1080p when in extend mode?
4K is supported by most Surface devices, and problems not getting to 4K are almost always due to cables that don't support 4K. Not sure which Surface you have, but this page has a full list of supported resolutions for surface devices: support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/troubleshoot-connecting-surface-to-a-second-screen-bc8f5121-a4cb-cf0b-5770-2df7a66a3b28
@@oztabletpc The challenge is I'm not using cables, I'm using Miracast natively from Windows 10 to a Samsung TV. I have no challenge using 4K over cabled connections.
Ah, I see. Didn't pay attention to the video you commented on sorry! What wireless adapter are you using? And is it up to date? 4K support was added to the Miracast standard in 2017. I noticed that MS have a new one out that specifically supports 4K.
Oh, IC. The TV's almost never have a good Miracast implementation in my experience. If you've got it working this far, that's an improvement! The issue is at the receiver end (i.e. the TV). So you'd need to check if the TV supports Miracast at 4k.

Hello I was wondering how hard it'd be to connect the surface to another computer and use the surface as a kind of Wacom tablet. My desktop is a 100x more powerful then the surface but the surface has all those nice features that I need for drawing. I'm just trying to connect it as like a Wacom monitor, but can't seem to figure it out.
