Transformers Legacy Evolution Skyquake (DO NOT Cut Him) - GotBot True Review NUMBER 1072
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- This time we look at the Transformers Legacy Evolution Skyquake...but DO NOT cut him if you are having issues with completing the transformation properly. There is a very specific sequence of events to try first. If that still does not work, then cut or shave the landing gear as you see fit. I almost did that until I discovered the right way to approach things. Once I nailed down the transformation, his solidity and articulation is a smooth as silk. His look is also very evocative of his Transformers Prime look, with only light hints of stylization. I would go as far as to say that this guy is the single most successful adaptation of a "G1-ified" Prime character in Legacy. Admittedly, his mass falls way short of a proper Leader class, but I think the value is made up by nailing every other thing very effectively (plus I snagged him for ten bucks less than the going price of a Leader Class Transformer in my neck of the woods).. Check out all the details and see what you think for yourself.

You will not believe the "aha" that I had when I felt the nose cone click into the correct place. I gasped so loud in excitement. Excellent video, you've earned that sub.
Aww, thanks. I'm glad you got it to work right. When it works, it's elegant.
I really hope they avoid using this mold for g2 dreadwing just because I think that would bring down the likelihood of Hasbro ever updating beast wars 2 BB. But yeah as you mentioned there's a solid amount of repaint potential. G1 skyquake, prime dreadwing, king atlus, machine wars starscream, megaplex
Good point. Hasbro does like to get their mileage though lol.
This video is literally the first and only time I've ever heard anyone talk of cutting the figure.
SEVERAL folks have been doing it upon noticing the transformation issue. Guess you either haven't watched many that talk about that "fix" or they never encountered the issue or they simply followed the instructions, which essentially mistransforms it.
Very good video, thank you for the information!! Super helpful!
I really wanted to try and help folks, especially with the order of operations for the transformation
I enjoyed this review, and found it helpful and informative.
However, you completely glossed over what I feel is a pretty significant and detrimental flaw: Skyquake's feet are terrible. Unless I am missing something, they just don't work well. They're tiny, with a miniscule heel spur, and fairly limited movement. The heels heelspur inexplicably moves outward, which is pretty useless, but not at all inward, which may have actually helped. It's bad enough that I looked up an upgrade kit and am considering getting one from Nonnef just because I find getting him to stand incredibly frustrating at times.
Is he an excellent figure? Absolutely. Is he 0.25 removed from perfection. No. No, he isn't. There's enough frustration factor between the unwieldy nosecone transformation and the terrible feet to bring him down to 8.0 at best. Still love him, he's still top of my favorites list, but he needs outside help to fully function properly.
You are entitled to feel how you feel, but I find the transformation buttery smooth, and mine stand like a super solid champion. Zero issues at all with his feel. I see no need to upgrade anything. Maybe you got a bum copy? I stand by the score. He is one of if not the best in the Legacy line.
@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot You haven't had any issues with him just not wanting to stand? With dynamic poses, wide stances, that kind of thing? I don't have a bum copy at all. The issue really is that he just has too small a footprint for his bulk, especially with how backheavy he is. His heels are too small and set too far forward. Every one or my friends who own it have the exact same issue. You're certainly entitled to overlook it or feel it isn't a problem for you, granted. It really is a matter or taste. I just like a bigger, top heavy figure like this to have a solid stance. I feel like I have to have him posed standing very straight, static, leaning slightly forward, or he falls over backwards.
Still love the review, even if we have to agree to disagree that the feet really do suck. That one significant flaw still doesn't stop him from being one of my favorite recent figures. I'm willing to accept it, but I won't pretend it's not there.
@Ravenfellblade Interesting, yeah, nope, lol, can't say I have had any issues. That said, Matrix Workshop does nice, simple work.
I hear that skyquake has a dreadwing repaint coming, I assumed it would be prime dreadwing for obvious reasons, but now you make me wonder!
Might be both.
Can't thank you enough for this video! Just got my Skyquake today and now he is transformed correctly! The arms are right, the back is right. He's perfect! Thanks again!!
That's why I'm here. Glad I could help.
15:07. TY! I was wondering why my back wasn't lining up properly! I didn't flip the tail and pop out the canopy!
I akways say, no need to cut parts (some have) and you need to be explicit with the steps but once you got the feel and k ow the order of operations, it makes a world of difference. Still tight but feels solid and clean.
Followed the video. Helped a great deal. Now my legacy skyquake is solid
Glad it helped. Getting it to work as smooth as it is by rights designed makes a world of difference.
Ive had him a couple months and just couldnt get him to sit right, thanks for this heads up hes now sturdy without floppy arms.
Sometimes the smalles things make all the difference. Glad it helped.
I didn't have any problem with my copy.
Maybe mine is a later copy that fixed the issue?
🤷♂️
There was never an issue, just people rushing and mistransforming it, like the unnecessary Siege Springer leg tab breakage. I mean, it's not even a push and pull system. Sometimes, a little patience and finesse is all you need
I didnt know people where struggling with this untill 2nite while just watching random videos and someone was cutting bits off
A common, common issue but if people had a little patience and used the right order, he's brilliant.
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot I got dreadwing on Friday and love the pair of them and have not had any problem with either, as long as that waist is connected correctly and also pushed down all the way then everything else is will fall in right
@shaunhandley3050 Yep. It is elegant when you follow the steps right.
thank you, was about to get to dismantling and get the sand paper when i saw the title of this video, was a struggle getting it right the first time, but it beats taking him apart.
Once you know the feel, then you just know. Glad it helped to avoid surgery lol.
Thanks man for the feedback your awesome!
Too kind. I try, buddy, I try.
You can get the cockpit at the front if you dont rotate the back wings and leave them where they started and the head is on a slider so it sits forward if done the other way, think it might be how Dreadwing transforms to differentiate the two.
You know what? You might just be right. I could see that working pretty decently
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot yeah I would like to see it done that way too then its not a straight up recolour/new headed bot on the shelf its the sames but slightly different.....would get me to double dip and I rarely do get more than 1 of each mold.
Yeah, there is for sure a right and wrong way to reuse molds. I like it when the skeleton has the same bones, but there is enough variance and molding changes to make it unique
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot definitely like Metalhawk for instance its basically Cyclonus but so many changes its practically new.
@@theangelofdeath1986 Or how Devcon will be SS86 Blurr.
Just picked up the SkyQuake and Metalhawk. Both are just amazing. Great review Dennis. 👍
Excellent molds. Fantastic pickups. The trick with Skyquake is for sure the order of operations to transform him. Get that down, and he's like butter.
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot yes speaking of molds, saw the early prototype of Deathsarus couple of days back and he's looking sick even without the bells and whistles.
@palpatine1975 I gave my thoughts on that on the live show last week, not yesterday's but last week.
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot ok I will check it out! Thanks
Thanks for the shout out man
You, sir, most certainly earned it. Order of operations matters, here more than ever.
The wing brackets never did slot in.
This fig is cursed 😂
Then you didn't do it right because they slot in perfect for me and anyone who follows the exact steps.
What i discovered when fiddling around with the chest transformation, is that the head/neck is on a slider
Um...what? To my knowledge, there is no slider. So, I'm not sure if you are misunderstanding the hinges or if I missed something. Where exactly is this apparent slider?
The neck of the robot, you know that thing that usually connects a head to a torso, can slide back an forth.
@@eeftankian umm..no..it can't. Not on mine or any I have seen. Odd
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot sadly i can't share pictures here
Wait, wait, wait I got home and went studying lol. You literally mean the head going into the body. I was thinking a transformation joint or something in the nosecone for some reason. Yes, I noticed that too but had forgotten about it. I feel like that will be for a retool/reuse later.
Gonna wait for dreadwing but I'm very surprised his scoring 😂
That is unconfirmed but I can't see it not happening. Why were you surprised?
Ahhh this was so helpful.
Happy to help.
It's the part at 13:20. THAT'S the part. Do that and it all works.
Like I said, do not cut!
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot It was uncomfortable.🥶
It is very....specific, but elegant once you get the feel for it down but initially, yes, for sure, agree.
Are you aware of the fact, that the center armature allows the entire nose cone section to spin 360 freely? I'm wondering why. Also, I pulled the forearms off the mushrooms and swapped them, which allowed me to transform mine in an almosst 100% screen accurate version from Prime.
Wouldn't his hands be backwards? Not sure what difference the forearms make but I haven't studied it that closely comparedto the animation model of the plane. As for the chest/nosecone, I did not know that but I can believe this mold will be used by many possible characters. It might be future tooling or was an idea they had that got abandoned.
Don't cut him? My folks told the same to our Rabbi when I was born.
Is that TMI? Probably.
Wayyy TMI lol.
He's on my wish list, and I get the difficulty in transforming him, but I like a Challenge
The thing is, if you do everything in the right order, he's not at all difficult. Dude gives up a lot of mass but he literally oozes value and fit and finish everywhere. Dude is fantastic.
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot The company I get my upgrade kits from has one for him that has two missiles and a green piece to cover the hole in the back the only problem is they picked the wrong shade of green.
@@brianmcneil1194 What hole in the back?
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot the one behind the head where the hinge is.
@Brian McNeil Ah. That sounds like ot would cause more issues than it would solve for what is already a very specific order of operations.
Thanks for the video, got both of em transformerd correctly.
They are wonderful but really need to follow that order of operations.
i know this is late, but i just opened dreadwing and it has the same problem that skyquake I looked your video but it doesn't work, after pushing the nosecone "in" like you show, if you try to push the grey swing bar in, to get the backpack closer to the back of the bot it pushes the landing gear out and the nose cone down.
This is because there is not enough space for the lading gear to go in, there is a piece that is wrongly molded/cut.
This error is kind of random, there are toys with the good piece and toys with the bad piece, i know because i have seen reviews of dreadwing with and without the problem, a friend has a dreadwing with no problem, but mine is wrong.
Anyways the transformation you showed is the best way if the toy has the good piece for the landing gear
Incorrect. It works fine. Keep trying. It's like whistling. Once you get it once, you'll fine it a snap. It IS tight but it does 100 percent work.
@@DennisMoultonAKAGotBot I assure you that it is not possible, there is a piece of plastic that prevents it. I could show you with photos.
@@xstube9621 You'd have to because it 100 percent works. The ONLY way it doesn't is of yours os musassembled, in which case, return it. But, yes, it works.
grate review dennis when i get him i may have to refer to this vido again but i took mental notes we shall see if i can get it on my 1st shot lol he looks good cant wait
You are great with your hands, you'll get it.
I would like to find him, I think he is brilliant
He is, and you will.
I can't figure it out still. Waiting for frustration and the urge to throw it to ease before looking up other videos...
Check the link in the description to the source video.
@Dennis Moulton AKA GotBot , I was just now.
It's like I get it, but then I push the waist up, something always pops out and the whole setup gets misaligned again.
I gave up again.
There's no way that this was properly play-tested. Most people are mistransforming it, and doing it properly is too esoteric for the mainline.
At least I didn't drop masterpiece price to be masterpiece frustrated.
@AsheBailey Then you aren't pushing the nose enough. You'll feel it when it lodges into place. I will say though, it needs more force than it should and I agree, it was not properly tested. But, if done just right, it's brilliant.
It has a very noticeable, solid "thwoop" when it drops into place. I find it works best to do this step early on, with the nose assembly still attached to the jet. Fold the nose cone down, then press firmly on the black hinge under it. The whole thing should shift downward and back and tilt the canopy forward. The assembly will click firmly into place. The downside of doing this at this point is that you need to be careful about the placement of the armature the nose assembly connects to, because if it swings too far outside of the assembly, it will undo the nosecone and you'll have to fold it up again under much less favorable conditions.
@Ravenfellblade I can't even picture what you are talking about but yes, there is a noticeable feel when it works right, agreed
Outstanding review GotBot!!! Thank you for going through the transformation, I will have to watch it when I transform Skyquake for the first time. :D I hope we will get a G1 Skyquake repaint that comes with the telescope cannon. lol Keep on being amazing.
Once you do it successfully and know the feel, it is pretty smooth.
Did you notice the ratchets on his thighs are misaligned
Nope, mine are fine. What have you experienced? Misaligned how?
One has like a centimeter closer click to the groin then the other
@@kocherproductions Huh, nope, never noticed that. How odd.
Yeah after I saw it I couldn't unsee it 🤣
I never had any issues transforming him, sad ppl are cutting him but I do really enjoy this guy. I think he is a great version of skyquake and I'm pretty sure I saw a listing for him to be dreadwing down the line. That will look great too.
This mold can be used several times. It is a tremendous mold.
It’s too late for me…
Uh-oh.
I love this figure and yeah the transformation is unquie but I don't get people cutting him at all
Because if not done JUST right, the front landing gear keeps it from folding up perfectly correct.
@Dennis Moulton AKA GotBot oh well I never had that problem
Who the hell would cut him???? Idiocy!!!!
A lot of folks have either shaved down the landing gear wheel or the notch on the grey hinge. Both are viable options if necessary, but shouldn't really be necessary.
My only complaint, and it’s a personal one, is it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Is it the G1 European Skyquake or the TF Prime Skyquake. We could say the same of all the Prime Legacy figures though. Outside of that I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this figure. One of Hasbros best in quite awhile. Off topic, was one of the Dreadwind and Smokescreen/Smokejumper repaints made from the ROTF Mindwipe and scout Skystalker?
Yes, I think you are right.
