I am a Teacher in Canada 🇨🇦, I am appalled at this!! Teachers teach!! If I wanted to be a Police Officer I would have applied for that career. Teachers in Canada 🇨🇦 and the United States don’t get paid enough to also be a cop in the classroom!! Yikes!! I don’t understand this!!
As a American we have a god given right to self preservation in fact I wish the whole world had a 2nd amendment like the USA so people can defend themselves from criminals in sweater and jeans and suits and ties to foreign government armies. Until Canada nuts up you won’t understand for dangerous freedom is greater than peaceful slavery also your country is banning hunting rifles after ban handguns and semi automatic weapons so don’t forget the opening stages of authoritarianism.
Quiet down citizen that was disarmed by your King.
You all honestly need to stop being so brand new to this. Teachers have been carrying handguns on school properties in Tennessee for decades. I grew up in Nashville and even my principal carried a revolver every day.

Considering a teacher in TN already threatened to shoot up their preschool since this passed days ago. Shockingly stupid.
That happened before the bill passed. The democrat whose district that happened in, brought it up before the vote on this bill. It was illegal to for her to make the threats, and it was illegal for her to have a gun there. When police arrested her for making the threats, they found a loaded gun in her purse inside the building and another gun in her car parked outside. She clearly didn't care that it was illegal for her to have the gun there. To show how deranged she was, she told her coworkers that she was only going to shoot them in the knees, so they wouldn't die (but would have to live with the pain for the rest of their lives). Carrying a gun by tossing it in a purse is an indication of a room temperature IQ, as there was an incident in recent months of a mother accidently shooting and killing her own daughter while she was trying to find her keys in her purse, because she had tossed a gun in her purse to rattle around with everything else that was in there. There have been other past incidents of guns going off in purses, when people have been stupid enough to just toss a gun in a purse.
Yeah, it’s stupid AF, and I get to live with it. Yayyy. Welcome to the red zone.
@paulstevens7528 and you still make it a red v blue thing?
Maybe your beef is with how the narrative of those facts aren't what you want?
@@stevenkidd6761 I made it a red v blue thing by pointing out that Bo Mitchell was talking about that incident happening in his district BEFORE the vote was taken to pass this bill, so the incident could not have happened 'since the bill passed'? He was complaining about it to reporters after the incident happened and BEFORE the day the bill was voted on, and he was pointing out to those reporters that it happened down the street from his house.
What would've prevented the teacher from bringing a gun to the school anyways?

You just demonstrated that you did not listen to the explanation that was given by the bill's sponsor of the training and screening involved in a teacher getting approval to carry a gun under this law, and of his expectations of the number of teachers who will apply, and the number of teachers who will successfully complete the required training, background checks, and mental health screening. He is already expecting 99% of teachers to either fail the screening and training requirement, or to just not even bother to apply for the program to be allowed to carry a gun.

What teacher in their right mind would want to have that kind of liability??? The school and the teacher will both be legally liable for any personal injury, accidental or otherwise.
It will be the teachers who are NOT in their right minds who bring guns to school.
Teachers and medical staff were already fleeing red states because of the abortion bans and culture war bs.
Texas saw a 10% drop in medical graduates heading there in 2023, that was before things got immeasurably worse. California is now offering incentives for medical staff to move there. Other states will be doing the same for all medical and teaching staff soon and that's going to lead to a massive drain on the ability of Red states to function.
I hope the morons in those states cheering for this insanity realize that this isn't going to only affect some people in their communities, it's going to affect them all when they have no choice but to home school and they can't see a doctor unless they can get a ride to a Blue state.
And if an unruly student wrestles that teachers gun from them,it's not going to work out too well, either!
Exactly but they do not care it's just another way to destroy public education and to privatize profit only education
Nope. The law states that the teacher carries the liability, not the school. The teacher also has to pay for their own gun and pay for their training. This is why it is a completely voluntary program and the bill's sponsor stated that he expected very, very few teachers to apply and complete the training and screening requirements laid out in the bill, but he wanted to give teachers that choice. If teachers don't want to deal with all of that, then they don't have to fill out the application.
No. This is insanity.

Just more reason they keep getting voted in.
They were voted in by people just as morally bankrupt as themselves. You cant fix stupid.
The reason that only six or seven counties in Tennessee still send democrats to the state legislature, is that the last time democrats held the majority in the state House, they refused to allow bills to remove restrictions on the carrying of handguns to be debated or voted on - democrat policy was that such bills would die in committee, so that representatives did not have to go on record as voting against them. When voters objected to this policy, they were told that this was how it was going to be, as long as democrats held the majority in the state house.
Tennessee voters accepted that challenge. Currently, over ten percent of the state population has a permit to carry a handgun, according to the Tennessee Dept of Safety.
Ugh... I can't believe this happened. But I'm thankful for those like Rep Pearson, who are still working for their constituents.
Seems like low IQ to chose to be defenseless against a mass shooter in a gun free zone to wait for the police to arrive let alone what happened in uvalde.

@@YoshiYosheda good lord. 99% of hand guns are semi auto. They have the same cyclic rate as an AR. One round per trigger pull.
Oh good lord, we are doomed.
Trolls have MSNBC on speed dial. They get here fast.
Well this won't go well. Now there are more guns in school... (Scratching my head ) 🤔
May the teachers rise up with their pens and vote Bill Lee out!
That would be quite a trick, since he is term-limited and can't run again. This suggestion is only slightly better than the people who have been calling for Nashville to vote out the House Speaker. Nashville didn't vote the Speaker into his position, since his district is in another part of the state, and every member of the state legislature that represents Nashville is a democrat, which means they are a 'super-minority' in the legislature and don't have any hope of removing the House Speaker. The dumbest was the high school students that were ranting about how when they are old enough to vote, they were going to vote out every member of the state legislature because of this bill. Those students are from a public school that is a few blocks from the legislative plaza, so they live in Nashville, and would only be able to vote for legislators who represent Nashville. ...and those legislators are up for reelection in about six months, so those students are really facing a hard deadline if they want to vote anybody out, even if they only want to vote out the legislators that agree with them.
Imagine going to college with 25,000 Bill Lees. Yes, I graduated from Auburn University.
So what about background checks, mental status, and the behavioral palette of the school and environment? Like if the school is dangerous
Exactly They would say it's over reach for more extensive background checks that require an assessment
Vote Democrat 2024
Please vote Democrat 🗳
Please? Desperation abounds. Democraps will be history, and not good history
The US is insane.
This Is Stupid ! Hire More Security ! 🙄🙄🙄😳😳😳
Exactly
@@queenkamie1743 Yes My Thoughts Exactly ! 🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯
That is my answer too sadly those security guards are not willing to give up their lives when a gun is pointing in their face although I don't agree with teachers carrying guns either
It’s criminally dangerous
Thats a ridiculous idea!! 😡
So if a teacher has to one day shoot some flipped out teenager, how is that teacher supposed to cope with the life long stress? How many Vietnam veterans suicided in the aftermath? No worries -- the state government will pay for therapy (yeah, sure)
How can this not end in tears?
Make it make sense, how can the solution to a problem involve more of what is the actual cause of the problem in the first place?
Democrats only want criminals to have guns and act like criminals can't get guns from the black market. Imagine being so naive
Profits over people...
TN government is getting a long overdue accountability wake-up call from these young Democrats.
😮. Wow, what a stupid law. Teachers should walk out.
Nobody is stopping them from doing that. Just like nobody is making them carry a gun. This law does not REQUIRE teachers to carry a gun, it only allows them an option of choosing.
It’s like hiring deputies in the Wild West.
Why do we protect banks with security guards with guns, but we don’t protect our children with security guards with guns?
Money is so much more important.....to some.
Because bank guards signed up to be guards, whereas teachers signed up to teach. Teachers are neither trained nor mentally prepared to handle a situation when they have to make that split second decision to pull the trigger.
@@asheronwindspear552: They aren’t saying teachers HAVE TO be armed. Only if they want to and go through the proper training and background checks.

Remember, this is the same state that made the teaching of evolution a crime.
My daughter is a teacher and the policemen in her school sit and watch movies all day. They are paid more than the teachers.
Militarizing law enforcement, adding more guns at schools, increasing access to guns via Permissible Carry...
More guns = more violence/deaths
Every state that has passed Permissible Carry into law has only seen statistically significant increase in gun deaths.
MADNESS!!
How ridiculous.
Come election time the sane in Tennessee had better vote out maga loony tunes! Tennessee looks like a circus!
This is what happens when you have politicians who aren’t quite capable of thinking things through.
So grateful my child-rearing years are behind me. If I was a parent of school age children I would be ready to move to Australia.
Yes, except raising kids abroad is no more affordable... maybe even less so.

What happens when a teacher kills a student or other staff members?
I’m sure the republicans will find a way to say that it’s acceptable!

I'd be fearful of any teacher who opts to carry a gun.
Crazy 🤪
Unbelievable 😢
Idiocracy coming true gets closer every day.
This will surely BACKFIRE, no pun intended.
That is a bad idea
Crazy.
I can assume that corporate leaders looking to move headquarters or open additional facilities will now take Tennessee off the list. Sad.
Just imagine the mind set of any teacher who would strap on a gun..I predict there will many teachers will find this a last straw and leave the profession.
Teachers dont get paid enough and now you ask them to do two jobs and not get paid for it!
That's right
I predict that many will refuse to carry a gun or will start looking for a change of states or just leave teaching all together. Former teacher myself and 11 others in my family. None of us will carry a gun.
It’s only if they want to. Nobody is forcing them to be armed.
@@reason6835correct let the teacher get the training and license or lack of permit if in a constitutional carry state.

He probably got money from gun manufacturers
We should probably give the students guns just in case one of the armed teachers go rogue.

The risk being teacher on student harm?
Come on, Tennessee. Students there can't be that out of control.
