- Was unable to connect my Magic Mouse 2 to my computer was feeling bummed out until I realized this super easy simple fix. Never give up! Someone said it was time to replace the mouse,that it had ran the course of its life. Easy fix for the broken Magic Mouse 2 don’t throw it away before trying this solution. Discoverable mode is only while the mouse is on. The mouse does not work while plugged in. Apple Tech support won’t tell you this! Let me know if this video helped you! I feel so happy! This worked! I put it on halfway in conjunction with plugging into Mac via lightning cable, and sure enough it connected! Thank you, saved me the much needed $$

OMG! I’m watching your VID 5 years later, and the on button was all the way at the top and not working all of a sudden out of the blue. I adjusted it a little bit, now my mouse is working!

You are a LIFESAVER!! I was about to go and spend the money on a new mouse even though I've had this one for 2-3 years. I had problems with it not connecting and then when I tried to remove it and re-pair it, it wouldn't pop up at all. Lone behold, this was the exact solution I needed. I knew the mouse had a full charge but nothing made sense until this video. Thank you so much!

THANK YOU, for posting this. I think it was the power switch on my mouse as well. I wiggled back and forth at least 10 times after charging for hours. Suddenly it came to life !!!! I was about to throw it out too !

I had all the problems you mentioned. The mouse was listening in. Without doing anything other than switch the mouse on and off, eventually it started to work. So your video must have inspired my mouse to breathe again 🤦🏽♂️🙏🏽 thank you

I have a mouse that wasn't working and tips helped fix the mouse. As my sister read and guided me. I moved the on bottom down one notch and BINGO, my computer recognized the MOUSE 2 and began working. Thank you so very much.

2:46 "Wiggle it just a little bit." Sorry but that song just came to mind.
1) Reboot. This is always step 1. Every cycle is important on a Mac much more so than on a PC, but remember this is still just a computer.
2) Turn off Bluetooth. This is how the Mouse connects, it can get wonky sometimes. If do this on all Mac products I do not want to AirDrop to as well.
3) In Bluetooth Settings click "Forgot the device" and add it back. You can rename it here as well.
4) Connect via a lightning cable. This hard connection is the only way to bypass the Bluetooth connection.
5) Leave it it connected using the lightning cable to your device and toggle the on off a few times. This worked for me while watching this video.
6) If your device will not hold it's on/off button status, then you device might need to be repaired/purchase another one.
7) If you are dependent on using a mouse, have an extra wired mouse available. A simple 2 button mouse with a wheel is all you need.
It worked for me too! You would think that Apple would have known about this issue. Thanks you saved me a bunch of money!

OMG! Thank you SOOO much, Michelle! My "magic mouse" connection disappeared a couple weeks ago. Even the bluetooth connection couldn't find it! And, yes, it was 46% charged just before it disappeared. I've been using the trackpad since then, which I'm not very good at doing. I thought it was because I'd been watching a lot of Penn & Teller's "Fool Us" videos, and all of that magic somehow made my mouse disappear! I had to scroll down through about 15 videos before I FINALLY found one (yours) that actually addresses the words I entered into UA-cam's search: "macbook air can't locate mouse". I had to use my fingernail to BARELY move the on/off button from the off position towards the on position while keeping an eye on the screen. Sure enough, the mouse icon showed up showing it was "Connected"! Sending love and light to you from north Florida, sister. 💕

Hi, This is a great vid and you have made some great points or Apple Faults ha . my magic mouse very rarely dies on power! its happened twice in 2 years . when it happened last, i plugged a standard USB mouse in to carry on using my Imac + now my magic mouse is fully charged . i have no control over it at all . it has now got a mind of its own . i have detached the USB standard mouse, restarted my machine multiple times, now i am wondering is there a conflict in drivers . my system works great with the USB mouse but not the Magic 1 . (there is nothing Magic about these Mouses but when they're good they're great! has anyone else had this problem? any advice would be appreciated . Thanks.

Surprising that such a simple thing could lead to Mouse issues and playing with the switch can resolve it:). I have used Apple Macs for 10 years and 2 different Mices. Never faced this issue until right now. And the mouse just wouldn't work, and I searched and landed here. Played around with the switch and voila...the problem got resolved.

Can’t believe it actually worked literally had the same problem with the mouse and keyboard combined then I switched the power button half way on both and they both worked again… Apple really charging 1600 for faulty equipment(only have had it for a couple months barely use) thank you!!! Hi Michelle, I hope/pray you found employment by now. Thank You for this video. I am actually on my 2nd mouse and of course it's out of warranty. LOL. You gave some really good advice, but luckily I plugged it in and it started charging. Before that I was getting ""not connected" after charging for 5min. The only thing I can think of for this time is that the battery was extremely dead or something. I put it in for a little longer and it was at 1%,. Wohoo! I once brought it in to an electronic fix it store. He said he couldn't pair it with anything (a PC maybe?), but he cleaned it and it worked on my Mac again. One other thing I always do is turn the lightning plug around. Sometimes it helps. Al the best to you!
I spoke too soon. Mouse doesn't work at all after charging overnight. LOL. Instead of trying safe mode I have several eternal HD's and it didn't work there either. That light doesn't go on at all either. So sad. It's a great mouse, but it seems I need to replace it every two or three years after warranty. I plan to look for a generic alternative mouse.Thanks.
Found my fix! It appears yours was a different issue. To explain my issue , I was using an apple certified cable, but it was frayed a little. Everything else charges using this cable like charging the phone and keyboard etc..., so I didn't think their was anything wrong with the cable, but I gave it a shot to try a brand new unused apple cable from my Iphone, plugged it into a wall outlet and voila It works! Now, I'm starting to realize that maybe some of the funky mac issues I have been having are related to a bad cable. Time to replace this cable.Thanks.

I had the same issue and it was driving me nuts. I was about to purchase a new mouse when I found your video. I gave it a try and ... actually, it works. By trial and errors I found the right position of the switch to make the mouse work again. Thanks for sharing this trick.
