As you stated in your video, unless you can do your own descaling of a tankless water heater they are not worth it. Always skeptical of new technology and we will see how long it takes for you to go back there for a service call. I have a Bradford White 50 gal. we installed 10/2010 along with a solar tank (80gal.) with 2 rooftop collectors that delivers 180 degree water via mixing valve to B/W and both going strong. Just replaced gas valve and pilot assembly. Tank in excellent shape. no rust or corrosion top or bottom and more efficient than any tankless. Good video anyway
@PipeDoctor when I first started watching your videos 7 or 8 years ago you were with Kelvin and Godzilla and they were funny and informative. You were a big proponent of tankless water heaters primarily Navien even though the internals were primarily plastic. Credit to you for being honest and realizing later that the high failure rate was not from improper installation but from a defective product. Enjoy your videos and by the way, I was highly suspicious of Tom and it did not surprise me especially how obese and how he could not function as a stand alone plumber.I was watching the videos you did from Orlando early on when you uploaded them and surprised you did not catch on sooner.
Mikey, you have saved me so much time and money! Since moving to an old home with steam heating, the winter has been bad. The banging was crazy. Now I’m looking at putting in vaporstat, and insulating my pipes because of your videos information. Do you by chance have a video on insulating pipes
Wow 🤩 mike pipes this is epic. The interior parts access to make service friendly. Quality is of number 1. Really excited for this product . You sold me on this. I watch so many great install by your company and some epic failures with manufacturing quality. This one has me think????
I'm guessing it's some kind of electronic technology that prevents scaling. Curious how efficiently that stainless heat exchanger transfers heat to the water with its low heat conductivity, compared to copper.
Customer?? Requested Navien today. An was very adamant a NCB-H 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I tried my dirty best to convince them not to… basically? Was told if you don’t want to install it”” I will get someone else “” 🤷🏻♂️ ok it’s your dime !! I ordered them the model that they wanted 250/150H .. An no it’s not over sized ( this customer is not your average joe ) He has it on the ball because I check his math . Nav is heavy in my area( mainly coz they are cheapest) took the water sample to have checked. But regardless I love the look of that excalibur, I would be extremely interested to know how it works in 4-5 years 🤔 but as always you all do great neat and professional looking installs!!❤
The older Takagi (natural draft tankless) was the same no maintenance , obviously non-condensing and probably 80-85%. This is new, let’s see how it works after 5 yrs. The most expensive repairs I’ve done have been tankless WH. As a service guy I still say a 85% cast iron boiler with 316 SS indirect tank still the way to go in my opinion (assuming u have hydronic heat)
Hey Mikey Thanks for another great video, I’ve learned a lot from you. After pressing the brass fittings do you sometimes have a slight wiggle to them? I’ve experienced this with two different press tools. Never had one leak but I don’t like it. Thanks
Just curious why you didn't put boiler drains in the low side of piping ? The inlet and outlet lines for draining ? Very nice install The supply house I deal with just started carrying them.
Hey Mike I’m a customer. Just throwing it out there (massapequa based). All about spayed and neutered animal shelter on 4209 merrick rd air purifier heat unit 💩 the bed. There getting alot of donations. I know you are a fair guy they got quoted 10k. It’s a volunteer shelter. I know you help a lot of people out. Maybe you can give them a better price. Thanks
How long has this product been on the market? This is the first I am hearing of this tankless heater. Does this tankless require water softening or is it not recommended?
For systems like that it seems the cold water inlet flows through the "X3" cartridge before going to the heat exchanger. In cases like that, will the system need a whole house water filter to prevent the cartridge from clogging, or can it be removed for cleaning when needed?
I wonder how this would stand up to Eastern PA well water. Navien heat exchangers can fail in a few years. Rinnai works ok. Bradford whites don't work here at all.
In my community it's 5 years old with a little over 600 homes all with Rinnai's. I have never seen another homeowner besides myself descale the unit. First year here I did it twice. I also stock almost every part for it. I do mine every year in Dec.
I can say in Australia, Rinnai is extremely popular, no one does maintenance on domestic tankless heaters here. Routinely last 15-20 years without doing a thing

The X3 technology has been available for about eight years only recently through the sister company Lochinvar

Glad I could help!
You’ll have to look at some of my steam boiler installation videos for installation tips
AO Smith has been doing that for awhile they have one on going they said 12 years running giv or take
As always great install

It is what it is.
Stating your reservations before the installation, if something goes wrong, the homeowner can’t say “well you didn’t tell me “

Didn’t want to cause it wasn’t in the budget.
It looks like a Viesmann heat exchanger.
I was thinking the same thing
Beautiful, love everything what you just say you are the best.I love your videos so much❤
Interesting. But the Alta still has my heart!

It doesn't require long sweep 90s? Street fittings are allowed into equipment? GFCI outlet not necessary for this equipment? I'm not a master plumber.
Great questions. Defer to the installation instructions for the equipment. The system is powered off a ground fault circuit interrupter.
For systems like that it seems the cold water inlet flows through the "X3" cartridge before going to the heat exchanger. In cases like that, will the system need a whole house water filter to prevent the cartridge from clogging, or can it be removed for cleaning when needed?
never needs to be changed. like ever.

How much does that descaler cost to replace and how often?
Loch makes great equipment.👍👍
LASTS A LIFETIME. NEVER NEEDS REPLACEMENT
@@PipeDoctorso how often does it need replacing?
@ never
Didn’t see a condensate pump or drain, there has to be condensate correct?
He left that part out trap is in back left corner
Installer code is pretty funny

Probably metric hose clamps 🤷♂️
The size is stamped in MM instead of 2”
That’s dumb
Tried to look up those clamps online, closest i could find calls for a 8mm driver . Never heard of metric hose clamps till now😅
12 years of troubles free service from tankless units. Then you replace them.
