  • The Proline 7 qt and Commercial 8 qt KitchenAid mixers are wonderful and powerful machines. On occasion they do need replacement parts, which is almost always significantly less than replacing the whole unit.
    In this video we take a look at replacing the speed control board. When you machine has intermittent power, has trouble changing speed or perhaps no power at all, its often an indication of a failed speed control board!

    Great to see someone who knows so much about this generation of machines. Glad you're keeping the spare gears when you replace the motor asembly and make it possible for tinkerers like me to replace broken planteray reducer gears!!!
    As for the control board, have you been able to figure out how it works and what component cause it to fail in the manner described?

    My Professional HD (KG25 series) had a good actual board, but the plastic that screwed to the housing messed up. Ordering the whole board was still much cheaper than replacing the whole machine, plus I got the regrease kit, plus the two attachments that got lost in one move or another. Thanks to your videos, I was able to completely disassemble the mixer and deep clean it before regreasing it and replacing the speed control board. She now looks new and runs like a dream! Thank you so much!!

      @@ericgarland5080 it wasn't increasing speed from 4 to 5 very well, and slowing back down, I almost had to slam the thing back to off. I took the upper housing off and saw that the plastic piece that holds the board to the housing was broken, so it couldn't downshift well. Replacing the whole board assembly, especially from Mr. Mixer was extremely affordable, and well worth learning how to do the replacement. My mixer is boysenberry, which is a discontinued color, and as close to a true purple as I could find at the time.

    I absolutely love this site for the info it provides to everyone needing to keep there mixers humming. I have a question for the tinkers out there. is it possible to put a proline speed control unit in a Costco born Pro 6000hd machine? they seem to sit in the same position, and I assume the proline would allow more power from the DC motor. can it be done? would it be dangerous to attempt such? am I being an idiot?...( you don`t need to comment on this last one, I already know the answer :^)
    any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Okay, I'm still stuck on the fact that the 7qt and 8qt machines are the same machine. Are you telling me that if I popped some stainless steel attachments and an 8qt bowl on my 7qt mixer, I'd have the commercial machine? Seriously? Can I do that? Why does the 8qt machine only come with a bright orange cord, then? I have so many questions.

    • @MrMixer316
      @MrMixer316  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes that's exactly what it would be 😁. The 8qt comes with the option for the bowl guard and it is the only one with a commercial warranty and it has a few other little features but that's about it. It's virtually the same machine

    Will a bowl lift 5.5 kitchen aid stand mixer mix smaller batches just as well as an artisan? I am buying one or the other. I do not normally do very large batches of anything yet. But if I get better at baking and I want to try larger batches and or eventually breads I thought it might be best to go a head and get the larger pro mixer. However, I don't want to get the larger one if it will not mixup smaller batches. Because that is what I will be using it for the most in the beginning.

    • @MrMixer316
      @MrMixer316  9 місяців тому +1

      I doubt you can, if you look where the wires go in there are little dimples in the metal of the head portion of the whisk. That is where they press on it really hard to hold the wires in place. Once dislodged, it's unlikely it can be fixed!

      @@MrMixer316 well, I’m pretty sure I don’t need to replace any parts actually… idk if I was just mistaken about the grinding noise i thought i was hearing, or if the grease was dried out and not providing enough lubrication, but i can’t see any damage to the gears at all. It’s been about two years though since I took it apart, so I don’t know exactly how to put it back together, but I was able to find a parts diagram at least. Or maybe I’ll just sell the parts individually instead lol, since they seem to be so hard to find. Save myself the hassle of having to re assemble it and buy new grease 😆

    My Proline 7 qt (KSM7586PSR) needs a new Speed Control Board. it shuts off at speed 8. I still have 1 year left on warranty (it was a 5 year warranty). Kitchenaid doesn't want to repair my mixer by replacing the Speed Control Board. They want to replace it with the new 7 qt. 500w AC motor (2 year warranty) (KSM70SNDXCU). Should I go with this replacement, or is it better to have my Proline repaired? I'm worried about the new mixer not being powerful enough or built as sturdy as my Proline. I make a lot of cookie dough and love how powerful the Proline is.

    Hey I have an old artisan that someone tried working on previously and couldn’t fix it! I’m handy so I decided to give it a shot. I saw that the speed control was making a contact on the bottom lever so I bent it just to see if the motor would spin! What are the chances I blew the motor?
