We also have “Small dog warnings” in Colorado: when it’s so windy that if you let your small dog out to do its business, you might see it blow past your window, later landing somewhere in Kansas. 😉😂

There's a reason Wyoming is the least populated state in the U.S. and this is part of it. I lived near Laramie for a little while and the wind blows constantly because there's nothing to stop it. It's just wide open prairies and if you do happen to see a tree somewhere, there's usually a house parked under it. Winters in Wyoming are BRUTAL!

Evanston? Try Rawlins, Elk Mountain, Casper, Sheridan or Laramie Wyoming. 60+ mph winds on top of a heavy dump of snow. Then add a 75 foot tractor trailer with a cross wind.

You forgot Cheyenne! The wind is insane. . Wind blowing at 40 - 60 mph while the actual temperature is also below zero is just insane. Lived there for 7 years. Coming from tropical countries I was not sure I will survive, but I did. Great people though. Wyoming grows in to you

I was stationed at FE Warren in the early 1990’s. Survival kit will save you, some of these highways go through remote areas without cell phone coverage.
We had a storm with -30 actual temperature, the -60s with wind chill. My car was stalling out between Cheyenne and north of Fort Collins. It was scary, early in cell phone history,I had a bag phone but no coverage in that area.

Last time I was in Jackson Hole (at Snow King), my eye lashes froze together *underneath* my ski goggles.
I kid you not, it was -21 that day, I would take one brief ride UP the ski life, take that brief ski run down to the lodge (solid ice all the way down the slope), drink a warm beverage (tea, cocoa, hot cider), thaw out a bit, and then get back on the lift to ride up one more time. it was very unpleasant.
Needless to say, I've never been back to Jackson Hole to go snowboarding again. That was way back in 1995 or 96, I think.

He’s isn’t cold because he’s shoveling. The surest way to get hypothermia is to wear clothing that is too heavy and warm, then work up a sweat, soaking the inner layers of fabric, *especially* if you’re foolish enough to wear cotton, which keeps the moisture next to your skin and takes forever to dry. “Be bold, start cold.” If you’re working hard, or playing hard, you’ll quickly get warm. Never let your base layers get wet with sweat!

As he warms up from shoveling snow, he’s removing layers so that he doesn’t get sweaty and wet. It’s the wet fabric next to his skin that would be a much bigger risk for hypothermia. Everyone in warmer states is hyperventilating over his lack of heavy layers, while those of us who enjoy doing winter sports, even in extreme temperatures, are thinking, “Yeah, this guy knows what he’s doing….” 👍
