I believe it. In 2016 or 2017, I saw a woman buy a boat load food in a nicer grocery store and I was thinking she must be rich. Nope, she was on food stamps, but that wasn't the worst part. She then tried to steal two PRIME RIBS (not the cheap select rib roasts you see around Christmas) that were over $60 each, which looked amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes; she got $300+ of stuff for nothing and now she wants to steal prime ribs. Of course, you could never find a prime rib for that cheap anymore and $300 doesn't even go half as far as it did back then. But still, it tells you that we're giving away money to the wrong people.

I can feed a family of 6 for $700/month, and have done it for less (without SNAP - which also means free school meals and probably other benefits). If you can't do it for what you get given to you, you need to make up the deficit. It's a hand up, not a hand out. It was never supposed to provide an organic, plant-based specialty diet - it was supposed to make sure a family could afford the necessitites to make meals. I grew up on WIC, food stamps, government canned meat and cheese - it was never organic or name brand or special - it was being able to keep food on the table. If you need it, you need it, but complaining about $713/month in food you didn't pay or work for .... I take issue with that.

Take Ukraine, we send them money and weapons so WE don't have to get physically involved in Europe and to keep our allies in Europe safer. Same with Israel. WE benefit from stability in the Middle East and Israel is the only Democratic country there. (Sort of, Netanyahu is working to dismantle it there just like the GOP is here.) Africa gets less or no aid in spite of millions starving because the US gets almost no real benefit from that aid. The ACTUAL problem is that the US subsidizes billionaires, fossil fuels, farmers pumping out corn for corn syrup, military industrial complex, etc. We COULD subsidize fruits, veg, organic farming, preventative healthcare, healthy school lunches for all, but we just do not have the political will to do so. My state actually refused federal money to subsidize SNAP for school children ($40 month) during summer to offset the loss of their free school lunches. When did we get to a place where 50% of our country cannot agree that hungry children is NOT A GOOD THING? It's not foreign countries "stealing" this money, it's big corporations right here at home.

I think the problem with a lot of people is not knowing how to manage their money they get their Snap benefits and it's a big shopping trip of all their wants and then they run out of money.. make a menu plan buy in bulk if you can and budget instead of racing off to the store. I know this first hand having worked in a bulk grocery store and the crazy things I saw people buy with Snap bulk size boxes of candy pop rings, chips, Monster drinks, it was crazy we all just stood there and shook our heads when they left the store. I think mandatory in person classes should be given on how to plan a menu and how to shop for that menu would be a big help both to the Snap population and the government. Teach them the skills to learn how to make homemade soup beans instead of buying cans of beans when making Chili, Beans with ham, Vegetable soup with beans in it for protein instead of meat, it can be done but I think sadly a lot do not know how to do it. Oh and on sweets.. that's something else they could learn Buckeye Bars are super easy and cheap to make ( think Reese's peanut butter cups) when I was growing up my family was poor and my Dad made homemade peanut butter fudge all the time and milk shakes made at home was a treat we had fairly often. No Bake Cookies is another that takes very little ingredients Oatmeal, Butter, Sugar and Cocoa Powder this versus buying junk food in the store. Anna In Ohio

I save my entire year of recipes and bought $3,000 of groceries, with the coupons brought that cost down to $1,999.00 and change. I moved to Florida in 1994. They never heard of Triple matches. Thought I was Joking. But now that I have reached my Golden years I am on a wait list for a living facility. I bought into Walmart's delivery service for $49 per year and no tipping either. There is no set limit of grocery orders like a minimum of $35.00. I am in a wheel chair and that has helped. SNAP should be short term for able-bodied adults under 65. They need to work and eventually have SNAP removed. YOU SHOULD NOT BE DRAGGING KIDS INTO YOUR POVERTY AND ROBBING OTHER TAXPAYERS TO PAY YOUR NEGLIGENT LIFESTYLE ❌💸💸💸

Incompetent segment... In lieu of showing EBT paying for organic food & canned goods... show how bulk buying & food prep is necessary to extend food budget. One can of cooked beans = cost of one whole bag of dry beans; A .79 Cent bag English split peas on special at local grocer = one meal for family of 4 vs. $2 at Walmart. Some Poor don't have the extra money to buy large bulk when on special...

From my understanding "41 million Americans" ARE NOT currently on the SNAP program because House Republicans and President Biden imposed "work requirements" last year. Single mothers with children kept their benefits but single men and single women under 54-years-old were cutoff.
#NBCNews we request updated information on the current number of SNAP recipients now on the program compared to before President Biden's "work requirements" deal with McCarthy last year. (July 5, 2024) 🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢
