I've heard it said, that many couples who try to build a house together, don't make it. I was so glad to see the hug!❤
You just need to train the dogs to fetch coffee for you guys when you a tied up working. One positive of the off grid life is that you don't have to spend money on a gym membership as you workout all day, everyday! Love that you take the time and effort to share your life with us, especially when doing such intensive work as this fence building is.
Katie, seeing you work makes me think of the pioneering women of the 1800s! You represent them well!
Manufacturing that spindle to hold the wire roll was a good idea. Then unrolling the wire bundle by backing the tractor must have been an epiphany moment for you; was this a Katie idea?
Katie is one hard working woman, you have a great partner Greg
You guys are extraordinary beyond measure. Your work ethic is the best I have ever witnessed. I’m 83 so that’s a big population of workers that you exceed. What a great team!
If you want the fencing to go around the steel post, slide some PVC over it. It will be much easier to pull and stretch. Nice job you two.
Was thinking the same thing.
I’ll just go in for a coffee😂😂😂😂 The big hug was nice letting you know he appreciates your hard work! Going to give such peace of mind having the fencing up! Hard work! Looks great!! 😎
Aww The video was over so quickly. You know what that means? It was a very good video. Love watching both of you completing new projects around the homestead. Have a good dinner eat hardy as you have worked so hard. Peace Love Happiness 💖
It is a pleasure watching you two work together.
Wow great idea Greg for Fencing on pole, then using Tractor to make it easier. Katie as ever you played your part in the fencing, great Team ❤️💙xx
There's a fencing wrench ,has a hammer a hook a pair of pliers a cutter they're about a footlong or longer for good leverage. Call fencing pliers. If you're going to keep doing fencing it's a really good investment I think they're about 20 bucks . I got a comment I love your invention for unrolling the field fence really nice really sharp.
I’m 74 and grew up on a small farm (160 acres). We had milking cows, a few beef steers, pigs, and chickens.
It was a lot of work but a great way to grow up. Then I went to into the army then college and spent the rest of my life as a business manager. It was a good career, but my best memories are of working hard on the farm.
Your Off Grid Life is like a walk down memory lane. You’re a beautiful couple with a great life. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I wasn't sure if that rig would work, but with Greg's ingenuity it worked far better than I expected. Well done you two! If there's an area you want to grow something up, it will be there for you.
Just thinking back how far things have come, you have made your home safe from predators and keeping the animals safe as well.
Great job.
Just incase you haven't lately, always good to treat kitty with tape worm medicine. They get them from licking themselves swallow fleas, and from eating vermin & birds...I used to have a gray tuxedo colored kitty growing up named pepper. Good kitty.
Would like to see the bull dozer up and running to make things easier for you. Could you set up a special fund me for such a project?
Loved it more when the tractor was doing the unrolling of the fencing. It is good to see it going up.
Greg and Katie,
Great Job on the fence. You can charge professional rates. Gene
Still say this, y'all are the hardest working people, enjoy the videos
Fencing is back breaking work but you two make it look easy. I bet Greg's shoulders are sore every morning. LOL. Katie you are a real jewel the way you are always in the thick of it with Greg. You two are one hell of a team, great work.
So sweet to watch after all the hardwork, gregg find time to hug kitty to comfort. God bless you guys.. i love watching your vidoes.❤
Greg is a skilled and crafty guy
Awesome fencework and teamwork. But the best was that hug.
Hat's off to the both of you. I don't believe that there are to many people out there that can do what you both do. When it comes to a project, you guys are fully committed to get the job done. You both inspire me. Keep up the good work and remember to be safe and careful. ❤
Multifunction tools, unroll fencing and Greg can now practice his pole dancing moves. Good progress on the fence. Thanks for the video.
You two are an amazing pair and it's wonderful seeing you work so well together. ❤❤❤❤
Use the winch on the 4 wheeler to stretch the fence, I've done it many times. Good job!
Your work ethic is awesome and encouraging
You guys work so so hard and good together
Keep it up and God bless
You know, you two are so fricking great! I love your energy, your creativity, your dogs, goats and everything else. Just pure enjoyment to watch. Thanks
Being a man who has built hundreds of miles of state right of way fence along highways there is nothing easy or standard about the process. Your terminal ends were excellent and you using a sledge on every post is inspiring. We used a pneumatic hammer that drove our posts into the ground. I might suggest with the 12 foot posts to drill a hole with your post hole drill unit on the back of your tractor maybe 3 feet or so to lessen the burden. Otherwise excellent effort and teamwork makes all the difference.
Hi guys, good to see that you're out there putting the fencing in, but would you take a recommendation? Put a stretch of barbed wire across the top because bears can climb but if they run into the barbed wire they might think twice
Next time get a tubular post pounder. Wear hearing protection and stand on the ground and the result has much less shattering of the top of the posts and avoids balancing on a precarious pallet on the tractor.
Once again you two work so well together.
You two are killing it. Greg, that fence roller is a good ideal. Like you said a larger piece of plywood will stop the getting stuck problem. Wishing you a super blessed week.
Hey Greg save your finger by using a strip of steel with a hole in it to wind the wire around itself
Katie and Greg, the fence looks great because it was easier to unroll the wire. The steel post inserted inside the wire roll was a great idea and made the job much easier. Blessings to you folks.
Your place is looking so neat and tidy .I"m jealous, good going guys
BC rainforest way up in the mountain is a chellange on it's own. Nice work fencing in the wilderness.
Hello from Germany from Kakenstorf Hans and Oci topp job ❤❤❤👍👍👍❤❤❤
You guys are kicking butt together! When its all done and working in your favor, you have memories and videos to look back. Keep moving forward, good things to come ahead of you.
You’re doing a great job. Don’t give yourself a hard time. That is not an easy job.
I live in a sub-division, I hardest thing I do is lawn and house maintenance. It is so good to see you guys do so many things together to build your home inside and out. Your ability to improvise as you build things is great. Love the goats and dogs always getting in the way as you work.
Try to use a set of pliers. They’re called lineman pliers. The work you’re doing on the fence is great and that would help you.
I notice you chasing the chickens. I’ve watch a lot of homesteaders and none of you have a chicken hook. It very simple to make. You can use a quarter inch rod 4 feet long. Use a have inch bolt, bend it around to about two inches and then bend it out to three inches. Uses about six inches of the rod. Attach to a pole four feet. Catch them around there leg. Works great
Katie - when you are holding the post and Greg is pounding on it with the sledge, you should not stand in line with the swing of the sledge, but 90 deg from it so that if the head of the sledge comes off, it does not hit you... fyi.
That fence will come in handy. I'm glad you guys got so much done. I wish I had your determination to keep pushing even when it's not that fun of a project. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to see how things get done !
Wow what a fence, some hard long work days ahead. Time for the hot tub, for both of yall.
Looking good so far people.
Good fences make good neighbors they say, ESPECIALLY when you add goats into the mix.
I see you need a tool that is more "expendable" than your fingers and a way bunch easier to use than a pliers or side-cutter.
Take a piece of 3mm steel, 15mm by 100mm - drill a hole through it about 5mm from the end and chamfer it a bit on both sides and smooth all the edges and corners as well.
Paint it yellow or red so that if you drop it it does not disappear into the weeds and dirt.
Put the wire you want to twist thru the hole and then wind the tool around the stationery wire.
The twist wire will be wound around the stationery wire and the twist wire will be pulled through the hole as it is wound around the stationery wire.
It's difficult to explain without pictures but I'm sure that you 2 will work it out in a few seconds.
It makes quick work of winding all the wires up and definitely saves fingers and hands PLUS it gives a good, constant result.
Once you have worked out the best length to make it (longer gives you more leverage to do the wind) make 10 or more because you WILL loose some and some will just plain wear out.
All the best.
This is a finger and time saving tool. And makes the wind really tight. I enjoy you sharing your interesting way of life. You are extraordinary hard workers . 👍💪🤗
Old Cole Porter song: Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Greg needs you, he’d be in a world of hurt if you just went in and had a coffee!😂 Awesome job you guys, it’s looking great! 😊❤
Your sheer persistence and creative ideas (Greg) are true signs of our early settler genes. What a team!
Greg, you need to put an old disk wheel over your pole for the wire stand. It is dished, place the edges down giving a upside down bowl effect and the wire will spin easy we used the for years, it will work well with barbed wire etc.
Hello from Thailand ,English (uk) retired expat, enjoying watching you both, cheers philip
I continue to be very impressed by the ingenuity that both of you demonstrate time and time again. Kudos from Maryland.
Ah loved to see Gregg give you a hug. So sweet. Especially loved when Katie suggested she go in and have a coffee. Music for that was spot on!. I enjoy watching you two working together ❤ thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing it completely done. Great feeling of security having a fence around you home to contain your animals not to mention keeping other animals out...
Sooner or later, when you have a farm, the projects on this channel align with projects you do too. Just realized that was sort of the case for me now... Fencing to keep out predators.
Only thing is, I'm protecting newly planted trees, and the "predators" are deer's eating them before they even have a small chance of growing... lol 🙂
Wow that's some hard work you guys are doing. Bless your hearts for working so hard to keep all your animals safe.
Was nice to see you two hug. You two work so good together.😊
I saw a man on UA-cam tension a wire fence ,he put the wire between two 2x4 and screw them tight . Then he attached it to his truck ,it was perfect worked great.
I'd get metal pipe, slightly larger than posts your pounding in. Then weld heavy metal plate on it. Slip that over post, so you aren't mashing post with sledge hammer. On your fencing device, I'd put metal flashing on it, so fence doesn't hang up. Then where you're going around a corner with the fence. Put a PVC pipe on T-post, to serve as a roller.
I love watching your progress that you graciously allow us to watch. I feel like a neighbor. Just remember to take time to admire what you two have accomplished and give each other those big, long hugs. I'm always waiting for the next video and devour it as soon as its posted
.
Hey guy's, hello from NE Ga. Perseverance is an awesome thing, I've been there and done that. You 2 are doing an outstanding job! Stay safe and keep encouraging each other, it's a beautiful thing. Love to the both of you. See you at the next video.........
You're right girl the air stapler would be nice then you don't loosen the poles with the hammer by hammering on it all the time but they are very expensive for a good one and you don't want to go cheap if you're going to go that expensive And those staples are a pain in the **** when you hammer them into a solid spot never mind a post that wiggles all the time
@ 6:40 if you do this again place a disk of wood or piece of thick plastic ( like a cutting board ) cut in a circle under the roll of wire fence to make it unroll easier
You guys have one of my most favorite channels!
Awesome job love watching you guys do your builds Awesome job
Choosing the hard part first sounds like a good idea. Now it's all downhill, so to speak. Have good days!
Now, that is hard yakka! Well done, you two.
Greg & Katie, excellent job you two really show what can be accomplished if you work with each other and GET ER DONE as Larry the cable guy would say
Another day of hard work. Good job!
Amazing work guys. You are going to have a very sore leg Katie from all the wrenching you did today.❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
About halfway through the video I resolved to never be involved with building a wire fence, hahaha. My muscles are sore just watching you two. However you guys are an inspiration!! Amazing work.
I’m going to start calling you both the real McCoys tough determined and in it together forever well done !❤
That fence looks pretty good, and should work well to keep out unwelcome critters of all types -- human as well as animal. Mind you, it could be said that unwelcome humans are critters as well, but there are legal ramifications if you shoot them. I am sure the remainder of your new fence will be a great addition, too.
Great job working together i wish i had someone like katie to help me instead of a COUCH TESTER
Fencing is hard no matter how you look at it. Specially the way you too are going about. Great job great video.
Put a piece of pipe across the pallet up against the vertical pipe for the fence roll to sit on. It will make it much easier to unroll with nothing to stick to. Gregs idea worked well but the roll had a mess in the middle from when it was rolled.
Hi,
Take a round disk of wood with a diameter larger than that of the mesh roll. Make a round hole in it so that it can easily fit over the pipe. Drop the disk over the pipe and place the gauze roll on it. The disc will rotate slightly, which makes unwinding easier.

She is hard working, she is a gem😊🪻💜🇺🇸
I love your channel. I have a suggestion: hang your fencing from the tractor with a chain attached to the pole and a swivel link at the top so it can spin.
If you get the traffic pattern right, feed the big bucket with the grapple get a little more wood in there.
I know some models of the tractor had ball bearings in the front axle instead of roller bearings to ball bearings. Transfer a lot more pressure when you have big loads that can craft a flange. The holes, the axle and your oil leaks out so heads up
Hi Katie and Greg! You two did a great job and accomplished quite a lot. That was a great hootis Greg came up with to put the fencing roll on. Imagination, creativity, inovation, skill and work ethic are all crucial and necessary on a homestead, and you two have all that in spades! It's always fulfilling and enjoyable to watch you both working together on a project and getting the job done. Great job you two!! Have a productive and safe week. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.
Yes, it's Grandpa from owl. Put a metal plate on it. A bottom that I'll scan easier.
You two are such hard workers it is a pleasure to watch you progressing the way you are good luck going forward.
..I like to have a single wire tensioned on the posts at the height of the fence wire. Then hang the wrylock on that wire before fixing to the posts. Also roll the wrylock on the ground if you can, those rolls are really heavy..
I enjoy watching you both working together
Make a driving cup out of a piece of pipe. For Them wooden posts and you won't crush them.
Nice work!!! Love to watch you lovebirds work!! Reminds me of myself and my husband Jim just a few years ago 😊😂❤❤
YOU ARE ONE VERY IMPRESSIVE WOMAN I HOPE GREG KNOWS HOW LUCKY HE IS AUSSIE GRAHAM IN THAILAND
You two are unbelievable!! You work together and accomplish so much!!!
I really enjoy your videos!! Stay strong together!!
put a old lazy susan ,drill a hole in the centre.its easier for the fence to come off
Your fencing uncoiler needs a bottom pivot. I suggest cutting a hole in a plastic cutting board. Worked for me
I think Greg should look at diesel creek, he works on stuff like your old diesel tractor or whatever.
He don't need diesel Creek fanboy
Yes cut a piece of wood or a piece of plastic off the bottom of a bucket drill a hole and then put the wire on top it will spin sweet love u guys ❤
put a flat piece of metal larger than squre hunk of metal first on metal pole so it can spin freely.... thanks for doing hugs!
Katie, the hug said it all! A couple met too be together and hard ass workers. That's tough work for all day. And I agree with you buy the tools you will need now and in the future. You will always have to fix the fence lines. It's pricey, but get a good one. Big hugs from Santa Barbara. 🌹🍷😘🤗👏👋🙏💕🍷😎
Wow! The fence is looking great! Soon you'll have more peace of mind for yourselves and your animals!
Great teamwork as always !
on some other show I saw them put their posts in with the bucket of their small tractor. Pushed it down onto the ground with the bucket.
When you have no experience doing things, ask people who do these things on a regular basic, like fencing. Framers with cattle know about fencing, ask them.
