To think you two built that house from the ground up! What an achievement.🎉
Greg & Katie, there is a reason that most kitchens are not BOLD. In time Purple or Red tiles wears on you to the point of wanting to scream every time you walk into the kitchen. Your choice of tile and grout will be pleasant for many years. Excellent choice!
That shelf is what really makes the kitchen and brings it out to look like a home cause it’s got your special things on it. Great job guys.
Looks great. That shelf was a great idea. It breaks up that wall. Good job.
For what it's worth, I think the tiles with the darker grout look great with the wood cabinets. Nice job.🤘⚒️🏴
Greg & Katie, Your Tile Job is just fantastic! Your Floating Shelf takes this project over the top. What else are we to expect for the "Master Builders"? You have built a Home to be proud of. You can be proud of your accomplishments.
I can't wait for the next things to come.
The grout did the job and set those tiles off nicely! I think the kitchen looks fabulous :😀
That fence in the tile saw is for ripping, not doing a crosscut. Thats why it
Caught the way it did.
The dark grout was the right choice. Looks good! Well done.
That grout made a huge difference. Good choice. 👍
What a difference! The kitchen area is now defined so well. It looks bigger, yet cozy and welcoming. Good job, guys!😊
It is all about the process/journey! Contrast grout can make a huge difference. Cabinets can be stripped and stained.
I knew the moment the grout went on it was going to look amazing. Gregg and Kate you can do anything
Kitchen looks amazing, I would be seriously happy with it. It looks very modern and stylish. The quality looks excellent. Don't doubt yourselves. Amazing job!
The tile and the shelf look so good together. Ya done good. Alan
Everyone always second guesses themselves. I think it looks Wonderful.
Hey you two don't worry and fuss about it, My Dad who was a skillful Joiner Favourite saying for any imperfections was, "a blind man on a galloping horse won't notice that"
Hello everyone. I think the tiles look very good. You are doing a good job. Even if you have never done certain jobs before. In Germany we always say: No one is born a master. Greetings from Germany. Andi
Perfect grout choice ties everything together, the tile touching the counter top needs to be sealed with silicone since it will see water and sponge too often.❤
I believe you kitchen looks great. I also like you decision to leave the floating shelf in it's natural color. Great job!
I love your kitchen. The dark brown grout brings out the brown window trim and blends with your cabinets. Love your floating shelf. You guys work hard and your kitchen looks great!!
Good morning from Louisiana, I'm loving 2 videos a week. Thank you ❤❤❤❤.
Greg and Katie it looks great as always I know you all are proud.
Love the tiles. If the kitchen cupboard’s wood colour is too orange for, you can alway paint them.
The grout made all the difference. Looks really good. Great job you too.
The kitchen is a nice look I like the tiles to for first timers looks great ! Floating self is nice nice touch keep up the good work
The main thing about building the place that you call home is that you can change some of the fixtures or fittings that you may not like. But it takes time, and you will both know when you want to change something. Normally the changes you make are improvements and these are because you were unable to afford what you eventually upgrade to. You should enjoy using what you now have and in the future you will change to something you both believe it is better, normally when you have the money to do so! You have done really well and you have gotten a usable tidy kitchen, but it will change and you will both agree on something different in the future! Keep safe and enjoy your new finished kitchen.
The floating shelf with those colorful things on it really helps cozy up the kitchen. Love the vignettes of spring and the fowl.
My opinion it’s beautiful don’t beat yourself up over the little things. You guys have made a wonderful place for yourself you should be very proud . Enjoy your life it goes by very fast God bless.
Great job! Live with it and enjoy yourselves, you're there to cook, eat and relax
Your kitchen is fabulous…I love it and that pop of yellow seems to bring it all together….great job 🥰🥰🥰🌻
My daughter just painted her kitchen cabinets. They were very similar to your color, and her existing backslash was pretty much the color of your backsplash. She painted her cabinets a cream color and her island a deep navy blue. The difference is unbelievable, so beautiful. If you're not loving the colors you could always add a bit of paint.
Great job on the install, I think the color grout enhanced the tiles.
Please don’t second guess yourself. You did a great job on the kitchen. Nice work.
I don’t know why you don’t like your kitchen,I think it is lovely, nice and clean and finished. Well done for your progress.🌺🌺
Katie, it looks fine. Don't count yourself short.
This old fella is 65 years old I've never done any of this before. But I honestly think you two did a wonderful job. It looks fantastic ❤
I think your kitchen looks great. The color choice of grout made a world of difference. Love that it's growing on you. If you want the cabinets to be a different color, there is always painting them, of course, down the road 😊
The kitchen is looking great. You’ve done an excellent job.❤
I think it looks great! Even impressed that you went with a cemetrical install vs a brick offset install. Looks modern to me.
It grew on me! Once everything was done it looks GREAT!! The grayish color pulls the grey from stainless sink & fridge, so ties it together. ✅ off the list😎
Be satisfied, your kitchen looks very good, and you built it yourselfves 🎉
Guys it looks great! The tiles look perfect with the wood colors. Love and be safe!
Wow the colour of the tile and brow grout really makes the kitchen beautiful. It is a perfect blend with the different coloured wood, looks like a designer styled your kitchen and the floating shelf is perfectly placed. Well done! Sometimes a first reaction is doubt that you have jumped outside of the box, but more scrutiny shows beauty! Nice work!
Your kitchen cupboard colour tonings:- You "may" be able to apply a darker varnish stain over what you have to bring the timber colour more in line with what you now prefer. Fortunately for you, there is more chance of making the timber darker rather than lighter. Good luck!
You two did a great job. The colors are great. Please enjoy what has happened. Colors all match to us. You did great. So much to say, but not necessary. Love it.❤
The tile looks great. My wife and I have built a couple houses, working on our third now (and last). You'll have decisions that you make along the way that you later question. It's just what it is. Everything from color/material choices to, "I should have flipped the whole house plan and put the garage on the other side". In the end it becomes your home. As you walk through it everything is something you did, with memories of you both working on it together. Maybe next time you'd do it different but it still the home you built together.
Fantastic job guys and you did it together which says alot about your journey.
I like the way you laid the tile. Clever. Grout compliments everything. A+ on the shelf.
My parents had the same dilemma w/their kitchen cabinets - they had them painted a slate blue & I’ll be 100% honest - they look great.
DON'T worry about the color of the tiles right now.
Why? Because your first priority as far as the house is concerned is making it neat and tidy and LIVABLE.
After that is done, the next priority is the rest of the homestead and while you are doing that you keep an eye out for the color that will make you happy AND they must be "on special"
Then one winters day when going outside is definitely not the best idea, you pull those tiles off and install the new ones.
When I built my small little "retirement cottage" I was donated a whole bunch of chipboard kitchen cabinets.
Some I used in the kitchen and some I used in the bedroom - not EXACTLY the right depth but the price was right (free) and now I have collected enough of the right timber to make the replacement units.
So this winter guess what... I'm making the permanent units out of the wood I want, to the dimensions I want with the finish I want and I will be replacing ALL those (35 year old melamine covered) units with the units I want and built to my specifications BY ME.
Remember that every step you guys make on the house and the homestead brings you one step closer to what you REALLY want.
But I think that your kitchen will grow on you exactly as it is and you will love it and be proud of it.
Just give it time...
You need to “butter” the back of the tile too. Bonds better to the wall. Trouble later if you didn’t do this. 😮
no need with adhesive you only doing with thin set mortar
I think the tile and the grout look so beautiful in your kitchen!! You guys did a fantastic job pat yourselves on the back!❤❤❤
It turned out great. Love watching the two of you working on projects together.
Kitchen is now a great mix of Scandinavian and American…
Looks very good and homey.
Guys this looks amazing. You had no experience doing it and it turned out so nice. Pat yourselves on the back! 💪✌️🇨🇦
The tiles look so beautiful and the grout looks good, the shelf looked great.
Great job. I was trying to tell you that you were drilling at an angle but you couldn't here me yelling. The self really was the finishing touch that made it all come together. I think painting the island will make it look like an island and it will make big difference.
If you don't like the orange of the cabinets you can always sand them and paint them. I saw someone do dark blue cabinets and it really looked classy, and they would go perfect with the grey tiles
Looks great. Katie trust your decision. If you like it that's all that matters. It's your house not the viewers.
Great job.well done
I like the grout colour it goes well with the tile.
When you get time Ha Ha, take the cupboard doors off, sand them back, and stain them to the same colour as your window trims - then you wont have the orange colour issue. Now, if that is too much work, then you can rough sand them in position, add the satin to a clear polyurethane and brush paint them completely which will give you a rustic look/finish like the window trims. Trail the end stain result on the inside of a door which you will not open regularly first, until your happy with the stain colour mix. Based on the amount of door coverage I think it would be safe to go for a gallon of clear, because you do not want to run out of stain mixed and try and match it again.
If you did rise you sponges in the sink and not a bucket, then remove your trap pipe and rise the sand out of the bend and put it back on - if not it will turn to cement.
With the little bit of exposed raw end board, run a piece of off cut wood with the laminate through the saw and cut the laminated face off. Then hand cut with a Stanley knife to shape, wood glue it on. If you get your saw cut/slice right, then it would only be proud a little bit, which no one will every pick up except for all your channel viewers.
Yes! I love the kitchen color theme. Good job Katie & Gregg. Only suggestion is to rethink the outlet color. In my opinion it should either match the grout color or dark handles of cabinets or even the dark stove color. The light outlet color should be darker...
Sand and stain the cupboards the same as your window trim will look awesome
Katie, The color is going to become normal the longer you have it. In a few years you may want to change it. But threr is the possibility that you will have to replaster the wall paper comes off in places.
You both work well together.
The kitchen looks really good Guys, you should be proud of yourselves! 😊
You'll adjust to the colors. They will all change in time. The kitchen is mostly complete. Nice break.
I have been following you for a couple of years and am always impressed by your industriousness. I also admire your “can do” approach to most of the challenges you face.
I am a professional person who in retirement bought himself a sawmill much to the consternation of my family and have woodlands so can mill my own lumber and build things that is immensely therapeutic and satisfying.
Just started milling oak to build 10 new window frames , as have built and kitted out a full workshop.
Keep going as looks like you are much closer to the finish than the start!😊
You 2 are so my favorites...❤ I yelled at tv twice put a clamp on saw brace... 😂 so excited that's done...🎉 we still watching guys❤❤
The contrast colors are great. No it isn’t to orange. Both of you did a wonderful job. Good job
I like the kitchen ! I think some of the sleek grey white kitchens of today are soulless! The timber is warm. The idea of painting the lounge side of the cabinets could work, but ...maybe it's all beautifully chosen too :)
Maybe conceding a shade more warmth mixed with the walnut stain for the shelf / window surround might bring it all together... it's so hard to get colours through a video, but I like it!
spring on the way!.... good job u2!
I just noticed your 100k plaque yay. I didn’t even realize you hit it! Right on!!!
Purple tiles with green grout? Now that's MY kinda kitchen!!! Hahaha!
During the tile install, I wasn't so sure, and saw y'all were a little apprehensive as well about the color choices, but in the end, seeing the tile and grout combo along with the wood on the ceiling, it all just *worked*! Well done! Maybe some pops of color, a few fun accent pieces, will find their way in to add a bit of interest as time passes, but for now, a subtle canvas has been created, and a beautiful place to start the new kitchen.
Love what y'all have done and are doing!
I know it would be a lot of work, but you could strip the cabinets and restrain them to get the look you were hoping for. I love the tile and grout job. ❤
Hi guys I’m watching ur video with my daughter. It’s her first time. She wanted me to suggest that you use an app for design of the room you’re doing. She says you can try different materials re:tile flooring etc, colours style to see what u like before u actually do it. She thought a darker grey would look good. Love ur show
A lot of modern kitchens have that Subway Tile look. Good job, that laser was handy tool to have.
If you haven't done it yet get grout sealer and an applicator bottle. I would put 2 coats of sealer on your grout. It keeps it from absorbing water and oils and makes it easier to clean. Nice job you two
I learned to hate back splash work because of all the cuts and hunching under the cabinets. I have never seen straight stacked tile placement. I looks Great! Great job! And never look at it before grout goes in, it always looks bad. Minimal cuts and speed is the key! Matching existing decor is always best. Great job on back splash and color! Keep adding subtle accents around!
Looks GREAT!! So impressed. Love Greg’s question, “Now are you impressed with me?” 😂😂
Tile is very pretty, neutral. It’s a change, u’ve gotten use to the white wall. Give it a few days. Remember, you want all your blend not to stand out. Just my thoughts. Looks good
The kitchen looks really good. I think if you don't like the orange tint of your cabinets maybe you could paint the top cabinets the same color as the wall. Then the orange won't be so much in your face. Then paint the bottom of the island the same as the wall. That way you can let your accessories be your color/design and not be a permanent decision you may not like.
Love the tile, and the floating shelf is the piece de la resistance...lol 😂😅 The kitchen is straight out of a magazine! Love ya'll ❤
For someone who does tile. Not bad for your first time. The kitchen looks great.
Your kitchen looks beautiful, the tiles look Great imo, especially since you put some color in their on your shelf, keep the colors in the accessories, always, it's an easy way to change things out, having a neutral background.
I hope you're pleased, it Really does look Awesome.
I love the color of the cupboards, tiles , everything
Looks very sharp.
Tile & Tile Work Look Great, Do Not Second Guess Yourself !!!!!!!!!!
Your tiles look great with the brown colored grout and you have done a brilliant job between you It is a lot more practical than white.
I think the tile looks great. I would consider painting the cabinets to tie everything together, maybe a gray or taupe.
Cordialement
12:27 an old trick that I learned from a crew that did a bunch of tile work for me. They took all their grout and put it in pastry bags and that way it went exactly where needed it to be and then scrubbed, it was so fast and the cleanup was so easy.
Loving the colours of the grout and tiles. Think you are being very hard on yourselves.
Looks really , really good. Your intial doubts on colour were unfounded in the end 😃
I think the tile, the shelf and the kitchen looks great. Be proud. Come do my house??? 🤣
it's the cherry on the cake 🥰
nice AND all made by YOU !!!
The tile Looks great with your shelf. Another area finished. 🎉
I really admire ur desire to commit ur inexperience, but at the end it all comes out great and also the team work. Keep it up guys and u can tell ur kids we did all ourselves.
I love it. It turned out beautiful. Like they say te floating shelf brings it all together.
I like the tellow teapot. That could be an accent color used throughout it little things. A pillow, a vase, a plant. Just go with your vision and it works out.
The color scheme in my house is all based on one print hanging in the frontroom. A gift, and it brought everything together.
The tile looks epic really pops the kitchen , the shelf adds to it Real nice job Katie and Greg
A interesting way to do grout is to take a empty caulk cylinder take out the end compression plug, clean the cylinder out and fill with grout mixture, reinstall the compression plug and run it along the grout lines. Also run white turning to clear silicone along the countertop to tile joint lines and vertical corners, if not the grout will crack out eventually. Just my experience anyhow
Goodmorning friends, do you know that the tiles has to be tied up together like cement blocks? Maybe there are something different with this kind of tiles,, but they are supposed to be tight up, not one on top of each other. 🎉🎉🎉
You can change the color of the cabinets. Because they already have a finish on them you can perchise a varish and stain already mixed together the water base works very well use a color that is lighter than what you are achieving Because two or more coats looks better. Take all the hardware off use 3M very fine just to roughen the surface but not after the first coat.just a hint use several coats to reach your desired color and practice on a similar piece of wood first. PS I did this to a towel bar for my bathroom that match the others but only came in clear and it turned out well. Many likes 👍 ❤ the Channel.
