    Very handy! I was struggling with some of the letters that I don't use in English, so instead of looking for the shape of the Latin letter, you can always think of the Greek letter that westerners may be more familiar with. Eg:
    Г (g) = Γ γ (gamma)
    Д (d) = Δ δ (Delta)
    З (ze) = Ζ ζ (zeta)
    Л (l) = Λ λ (lambda)
    п (p) = Π π (pi)
    Р (r) = Ρ ρ (rho)
    Ф (f) = Φ φ (phi)
    Х (kh) = Χ χ (chi)

    By luck, I just found this video. This teacher is amazingly gifted and patient. I have learned more from her in an hour than I expected to learn, and recall, in a week. I love her creativity as well as her ability to make her students not feel afraid and be a part of solving her own challenges. I speak a couple of languages and Russian is the hardest one I have tried to tackle. She makes the journey fun and exciting. She's a natural educator. Please keep the lessons coming. You have a lot of very dedicated UA-cam students waiting for your next lessons.

    I have learned so much in the first forty minutes. I break up the lesson into 15 minute bits and go back over them each day. I look up the letters in a Russian book i have and can pick them out. early days. I wish to visit Russia in 2019 and visit some of the places i have read about all my life and will be able to communicate. One thing from your video is that you have the patience of a saint with an English speaking student! she does well considering she has to sit on camera for two hours of intense concentration and make mistakes. well done to the both of you. G'day from Australia.

    One thing that is confusing to a beginner is the pronunciation of a letter within a word is different from the name of the letter. It would be good to clarify - this is how we say the name of the letter, but this is how we pronounce in a word. I could see she was having trouble with this.

    This took a lot longer than 2 hours for me because I wanted to actually retain this (super super helpful) information, so I kept pausing the video to say each word before the student in the video did. I also remembered how to say a few simple phrases before learning how to read the language, so I kept going back and reading the words while saying them and made connections throughout the video. However, I was able to read Russian A LOT easier after this! Thank you!

    Second girl annoyed the hell out of me. I've been on and off learning Russian non consistently for a couple months now. Still haven't got passed the alphabet due to me not having the time and now I do, so happy I found this video. One question, can someone tell me why sometimes the "O" letter sounds more like an "Ahh" kind of sound rather than an "Ohh"?. Confused me.

    • @MarianaAguirre
      @MarianaAguirre 8 років тому +8

      The "O" sounds like an "O" when it is in the stressed syllable. Otherwise, sounds like an "A". It is called vowel reduction.

    However, the girl in "association technique" section, you better skip her and continue with the first girl in the class - The first girl is learning exactly like you but the other one tries to mess-up your mind, so skip her. Just listening to what teacher says, that is helpful enough.
    And the teacher, she is a wonderful one. Thanks to her.

    Спасибо Ирине! I learned the The Cyrillic script via a book (from John Langran, Natalia Veshneva), but would have prefered to learn it with a Russian teacher. What a luxury those girls have to be able to have one teacher for their own. That is the only thing I would. Anyway, I go in class and our teachers are Russian natives. They are skillfull in their own language. So, what I am trying to say is that I have only met skillfull Russian teachers, so far.
