I caught this performance the other night on another reaction channel. It's quite possibly the best live vocal performance I've ever watched. Staggering vocals.
He has 50 odd years of a career. He can sing any genre as a perfect live vocalist. Please go down the rabbit hole of Farnsey (as Australia's call him) He is known as "THE VOICE" in Australia & only way to react to him is live. The man is the most humble, genuine, funniest man. He has the best selling album "Whispering Jack" in Australia to this day & that will never change. He has many anthem songs but one is called "You're the Voice" & it is still Australia's unofficial national anthem. Barnsey (Jimmy Barnes) & his band "Cold Chisel" are also worthy of checking out. They're great mates. Please do a reaction to their duet "Something is wrong with my baby" live. Yet another song both did wayyy out of their genres.
Agree. And such an intelligent arrangement. The sax solo is misleading. You think the song has peaked. (And the sax player does an amazing job matching John's vocal tone.) But then John takes it next level, and his vocals are just gobsmacking. He can outsing a saxophone. He leaves the sax behind. You can compare him to whoever you like, but I've never seen a popular performer sing like that.
Although it wasn't the last song that night. The recorded concert had another encore after Help with 2 more songs. Plus that night was shorter than some of the others at closer to 2 hours of singing. John was known to mix things up between nights.
@@barsandbarbells2022 if you watch 'It's a Long Way to the Top' from that same concert, you'll see how much energy he still had left 'after' singing Help! Help wasn't the last song as there was another encore after it.

John has been performing in Australia since the '60s and was lead singer with Little River Band for a few years. He was still singing to sold out venues until last year when he had surgery for cancer. He has performed with and been praised by many greats. Celine Dion, Tom Jones, Ray Charles and Olivia Newton John was a dear friend. The world is starting to realise what other singers have known for years. He's the goat. With zero vocal training he can sing any genre flawlessly. Rock ,Pop, Jazz, Blues, Opera, Swing, Musical Theatre. He's done them all and more. To say that, in Australia, he is 'bigger than Elvis' is no exaggeration. Even Aussies who aren't fans of his music love and respect the man.
We love the man, he has deserved every ounce of affection with his down to earth personality, generous nature and awesome performances, “ The Voice “ we have been spoilt to have the talent down under that we have.
Your comment is so true...... I have never been a Farnham fan and used to laugh at his piddly pop songs for 10 yo girls.........but he is the voice with a magical voice, range, tone and control.
On behalf of every Australian including myself thank you so much for reacting to this . Just some trivia about this song and about John. First of all John Lennon was quoted as saying after hearing John's Version of Help that the way John performs the song was always how he envisioned the song to sound. Also when Freddie Mercury died the other members of Queen asked John to be their new lead singer, but John being a family man and having a young family declined the offer to remain in Australia.

Not many singers alive have ever had that quality of voice. With the power to outsing a symphony orchestra, stay completely in tune and on pitch while singing live, with such a beautiful tone and timbre, and who can sing with that much emotion and passion, and still sound as good at the end of a 2-3 hour concert, as he did on the first song, much less still have a voice left at the end.. and still tale the time to remind every one to drive safe on the way home. John has it all. 7 decades of top charting songs and albums...and even in his 70's could still sing all his old songs in the same key as he did in his 20's. The man is a living legend. Thankyou for taking g the time to check him out. Next try His most famous song You're the Voice live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

I'm 59 and have just discovered him after watching the Celine Dion documentary. So glad I found this video, because I've listened to it about 100 times since listening to John. Thanks to UA-cam for opening up the world to all of us.
Apart from being an epic artist with an epic repertoire and epic vocal range he's an epic human being. An Aussie legend. Live for Farnsie is always the best 👌
This concert was one of the best live performances ever. You will need to listen to one of his signature songs "You're the Voice" from the same concert. You will be blown away.
John is a true Australian Icon. He released this on single in 1979. In an Interview, John Lennon said that he loved John's rendition & was happy as he wrote it as a Ballad, but none of the other Beatles or their Producer, George Martin wanted it as a Ballad. Farnsey (as he's affectionately known in Australia), was in New York in December 1980 doing some recording & it was arranged that the 2 John's would meet, but unfortunately due to Lennon's untimely death, that meeting never happened. A few years later he did meet Paul & Ringo. Another song worth a listen is a version he did of Led Zep's Black Dog, from a sound check. It's awesome.
Yes, John Lennon said it was actually written as a cry for help at the time and he never liked the original Beatles version. Black Dog is off the charts, good suggestion.👍
As an Aussie it always thrills me when others get to hear and experience the great talent that is here. John is a true legend as well as a very nice, humble, down to earth Aussie block and we love him to bits. You need to check out John singing with Jimmy Barnes, Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow. John can sing anything. Also you need to check out Guy Sebastian, once you discover the amazing talent we have here you will go down a very interesting and unique rabbit hole. Thank you for your reaction it was brilliant💕
John Farnham had his biggest hit with 'Your The Voice', a title that earned him the nickname 'The Voice' and rightly so. He has one of the greatest male voices in music history, not just in power and range, but his ability to sing in any genre. Listen to 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby', a duet with Jimmy Barnes and with Johnny Diesil on guitar and backing vocals, its spectacular. John Lennon of the Beatles got to hear this version of Help, the song that he wrote, and praised it heavily saying that he had originally written it that way, as a ballad, and was so pleased to hear it performed as he had written it. It was the Beatles record label that pushed for the uptempo version to keep in line with the musical trend of the time.
John Farnham AO is a living legend. His vocal range has been matched by only a few pop/rock singers including Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) and Steve Perry (Journey). John can belt out an A5 in full chest voice and can sing in almost any genre of music. He was an Aussie teen pop idol in the 1960’s, an image which unfortunately he had to work hard to shake off as he was stereotyped by the local music industry as too clean cut and preppy for the “adult” audience. Eventually with the help of his manager mortgaging his own house, John pushed through poverty and depression to reinvent himself and the rest is history. The first slow ballad version of HELP was recorded in 1968 by Deep Purple. Lennon had always intended it to be sung as a ballad.
One of the best voices in all of music John Farnham was, is. Please go down this rabbit hole and experience more of his brilliance. You won't be disappointed.
One of the greatest singers around combined with being a humble and genuine person. Unfortunately battling mouth cancer and the removal of his lower jaw. His rapport with his audience is legendary, his vocal range incredible, his happy inclusiveness of his back up singers and musicians outstanding. Rightfully Australia’s beloved “Voice”.
John Farnham - one of, if not the best, singer to ever come out of Australia. He sang with The Little River Band for a while who also were one of the best bands to come out of Australia - terrific music!
Hey from Australia, loved your reaction, welcome down the Farnham rabbit hole 😁 you have only scratched the surface. From this same concert, you should react to, - it's a long way to the top - your the voice - playing to win. I think you're going to love them 👍👍👍
In case you hadn’t realised it from this performance, John Farnham can sing ANY genre. Get ready to be inundated with suggestions, because he can move seamlessly from opera to driving rock, and anything you can think of in between. And every performance has that level of audience engagement. Us non-singers leave a John Farnham concert unable to talk for 3 days. You’ve got 5 decades of genius to discover
Yep I agree with that as I have lost my voice after a Farnsey concert. I feel lucky that I got to see him in 2019, brilliant concert worth every penny.
So much to say about John Farnham. (We went to the same school as kids but I didn't actually know him.) Although hardly known outside of Australia, John is one of the three or four greatest male vocalists of our time. Completely natural. A huge range, perfect tone. Can sing everything from opera to Led Zepplin. That voice is a gift. And, as well, the man is a beautiful human being. Thanks for the genuine reaction. There's lots of Farnham to cover - but stick to the live performances. For whatever reason, the real qualities of his voice - which are extraordinary! - were never fully captured on studio recordings. He's a performer. A live audience brings it out.
A pure legend vocalist that most of the world hadn't heard of until the internet & reaction channels. Having seen him live several times, I can honestly say that you are in total awe listening to him live. Astounding!! He is truly one of a kind! ..& a bloody nice bloke as well! 👍👍 When Aussies awaken (its 1am Friday now in Western Australia) you will be inundated. Thanks for your reaction guys. Others will point you to more Farnsey songs to react to. ..but always do LIVE! 👍 ✌️♥️ From 🇦🇺🦘
Whenever he toured in Australia he would have 6,7 or 8 shows in every state fully sold out. I went to 5 of his concerts and he is the greatest vocalist i have ever heard.
Apparently Paul McCartney said that this was how John Lennon originally envisaged this song but the record company wanted it more poppy. This slower version gives the lyrics a lot more emphasis and power in my opinion.
You should also listen to his song "You're The Voice" from the same concert. It is also so powerful and one of the reasons why he is called "The Voice" in Australia, he is an icon over there.
You’ve won me over guys. Great reaction & have now subscribed. Being an Aussie, I grew up with John’s magnificent voice & please react to more of his performances. Seeing you’ve won me over, let me win you over by reacting to a video that’s had an incredible 74 million views & counting. Details are; Amira Willighagen with Andre Rieu, the world renown conductor/musician singing O Mio Babbino Caro at the age of 10, to an audience of some 10,000 people who gave her a standing ovation. This young lady is now 19 y.o & is simply, outstanding. Cheers Graeme. ps. A thumbs up would be appreciated.
John and Paul loved how Farnham sang this. John started in the sixties with pop, very popular but unbeknown to everyone his manager ripped him off. He was literally bankrupt before his comeback, a friend morgues his house to be able to record his “The Voice “ album which launched him into what you are hearing now. John shines in live performances. John is 74 now and has recovered recently from mouth cancer. He is loved by everyone in Australia and around the world.
John was born in Dagenham, England, in 1949. His family emigrated to Australia when he was 10. Never had any singing lessons. Was just born with that amazing voice. He said all he ever wanted to do was sing, and be a rock singer. Watch his version of Long Way to the Top, and there's an audio on youtube of Black Dog which was a sound check getting ready for a concert - his sound engineer actually recorded it. No auto tune in those days. What you hear is just pure John, just pure gold. Feb '24. UK. E ❤
This was his encore after a 2-hour performance. A once in a generation performer and an Australian National treasure. Check out the duet he does with another Aussie legend Jimmy Barnes.
An Aussie legend who never tried to break worldwide because the love his own nation gave him was enough. Plenty more of his songs out there that you will love too…..try You’re the Voice…guarantee you won’t be disappointed
This was one of a couple of encores following a 2-hour plus concert. You've got to check out his rendition of an AC/DC classic It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock & Roll) and his signature song You're The Voice, both from this concert from 1988 or 1989. His warm-up mic test of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog (unfortunately no video available) is astounding, while his duet with close friend Olivia Newton-John of Please Don't Ask Me from the Main Event concert in 1998 is a real tear-jerker - have the tissues ready! This year he celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife Jill and last year underwent surgery for mouth cancer during which he lost part of his jaw, so we may never see or hear him perform again.
It hasn't been reported John has lost part of his jaw , it's his mate from the Aussie TV show Hey Hey its Saturday lost part of his jaw ! But nothing has been written or spoken about John losing part of his jaw ! His son addressed media recently & didn't say anything like that , he actually said John has been walking around the house singing for the first time since leaving hospital.
Always a brilliant performer and entertainer, especially his live performances. Please take the time to listen and watch John singing 'Your the Voice" live! The words are still valid today. Very much loved here in Australia.
Liked and subscribed. Keep coming with the Farnsey reactions. A true Aussie legend with hit singles in 6 consecutive decades. Always react to live performances even in his later years his voice is mind blowing. When the war is over from the last time concert tour is one of my faves and of course When something is wrong with my baby a duet with Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey) Actually with Farnsey and Barnsey, no matter what you pick you can’t go wrong.
Another page in my musical education. Never heard of him but what a voice. This was so much better than the original. Thanks to whoever made the introduction. ♥♥
Watch the entire concert. He doesn’t miss a beat. He’s part of the soundtrack of our Aussie Gen x youth. Anything live by Farnsey will blow you away. He can sing any genre.
I've heard the comment "better than the original" many, many times before over many tracks. But to say that about a Beatles cover is rarer than rare. But yes, you are totally correct. John turned this track into a ballad, and now this is the best version of "Help". To deliver this stunning ENCORE after 2.5 hours of straining his vocal cords, and to sing it with such power and such passion is nothing short of incredible. Mary, check out ANYTHING live by John Farnham and you'll not be disappointed. A living legend.
Hi guys...I'm in...Liked and Subscribed. Great reaction, loved your analysis and the respect you showed to our Legend John Farnham. This is one of 3 encores after a 2 and 1/2 hour concert. I know that if you react to any of the songs from this epic concert it will blow you away. Love from Australia
The whole concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is great. He got them to sing for him at the beginning for their 'HELP'. Listen to "You're The Voice' and really everything in this concert is great. Pronounced Farnam - so silent on the H :) I hope you do more from this concert. He is KNOWN as the Voice to all who love him in Australia (hi from Austraia btw)
Thank you for your reaction and appreciation of our phenomenal Aussie legend, John Farnham! (Pronounced with silent ‘h’) Like many Australian’s, I have loved John for 50+ years and have been privileged to attend many of his awesome concerts over the decades. You now have 6 decades worth of hit songs to catch up on! Live performances are always best. Try: ‘You’re the Voice’, ‘Age of Reason’, That’s Freedom’, ‘Touch of Paradise’, ‘When Something is wrong with my Baby’ with Jimmy Barnes; ‘Angels’ with Lisa Edwards, ‘It’s a long way to the Top’ with Tom Jones; ‘Grenada’ with Anthony Warlow and ‘Dare to Dream’ & ‘Please Don’t Ask Me’ with the late great Olivia Newton-John.
redddo It’s better to tell people to say, Farn-um, that’s how it sounds naturally. If you tell them to say Farn-em they will accentuate the, “e” sound.
He has major health issues at the moment. All of us in Australia are hoping he gets through it all..he is a fighter of a bloke. Australia's most iconic singer!!! Possibly the world's greatest!!
I believe this was the last song of a 2 hour set. John is a legend. You should hear him sing Black Dog. He sings this as a sound check. Incredible talent.

We gotta do the original Black Dog first! 😂
@@barsandbarbells2022 Absolutely.
Thank you for reacting to and appreciating the legendary John Farnham! This is my favorite version of the Beatles song HELP.
WHAT A TRULY EPIC PERFORMANCE. I REALLY LOVED HIS REARRANGEMENT OF THIS SONG.
THANKS FOR YOUR REACTION
John Farnham is a Aussie legend. Check out his album Whispering Jack.
Buying my first stereo-rack in 1987 my first cd buy was John Farnham.
He never left me.
AWESOME singer and performer.🥰
Thanks John a all best for you.
John Farnham is an Australian legend 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 Thumbs up for giving him a listen.
❤❤i can't believe u haven't heard of him, he is the best Aussie singer with so many hits for over 30yrs or more, he is a living legend 🎉🎉
The GOAT. And Australia's national treasure ❤
One of the best singers ever, we love him here in Australia !!!!!
Welcome to the world of John Farnham he is incredible
👍
One of the best voices in all of music John Farnham was, is. Please go down this rabbit hole and experience more of his brilliance. You won't be disappointed.
One of the greatest singers around combined with being a humble and genuine person. Unfortunately battling mouth cancer and the removal of his lower jaw. His rapport with his audience is legendary, his vocal range incredible, his happy inclusiveness of his back up singers and musicians outstanding. Rightfully Australia’s beloved “Voice”.
John is an AMAZING talent, and a super nicve human!!!!
John Farnham - one of, if not the best, singer to ever come out of Australia. He sang with The Little River Band for a while who also were one of the best bands to come out of Australia - terrific music!
Lots more John please. You’re going to love it all. So much catching up to do. Love watching reactions of people discovering our legends 🇦🇺
Cheers For Sharing Aussie Music🎙🎸🎷🥁🎹 Enjoy The Ride👌
Hey from Australia, loved your reaction, welcome down the Farnham rabbit hole 😁 you have only scratched the surface.
From this same concert, you should react to,
- it's a long way to the top
- your the voice
- playing to win.
@@tiaelina1090 my last was 2010, but was also lucky enough to see him 4 times previous to that over 21 years, including his duet with Jimmy live.
Another good one is amazing grace by John farham
Prayers for John Farhnam 🙏❤
A pure legend vocalist that most of the world hadn't heard of until the internet & reaction channels.
Having seen him live several times, I can honestly say that you are in total awe listening to him live. Astounding!! He is truly one of a kind! ..& a bloody nice bloke as well! 👍👍
When Aussies awaken (its 1am Friday now in Western Australia) you will be inundated.
Thanks for your reaction guys.
Others will point you to more Farnsey songs to react to. ..but always do LIVE! 👍
✌️♥️ From 🇦🇺🦘
Our pleasure! Thx for the love!
Great Artist! Great Track! Great Reaction!!!! Thank You so Much ✌
Thank you too!
Paul Mc Cartney said it was for me him the best HELP cover 🤩
I have goosebumps throughout this entire performance. It just doesn’t get better than this.
You’ve won me over guys. Great reaction & have now subscribed. Being an Aussie, I grew up with John’s magnificent voice & please react to more of his performances.
Seeing you’ve won me over, let me win you over by reacting to a video that’s had an incredible 74 million views & counting. Details are;
Amira Willighagen with Andre Rieu, the world renown conductor/musician singing O Mio Babbino Caro at the age of 10, to an audience of some 10,000 people who gave her a standing ovation. This young lady is now 19 y.o & is simply, outstanding.
Cheers Graeme. ps. A thumbs up would be appreciated.
Yes, you're right - she gave an outstanding performance that night!
Love your reaction! One of our best. Please look at more from him. Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
You are absolutely right about the mike placement. Total vocal power.
He was wonderful to see and hear live in concert. ❤
Great reaction. More of John please, especially a duet with his good friend Olivia Newton-John (RIP) called "Please Don't Ask Me"
John and Paul loved how Farnham sang this. He is loved by everyone in Australia and around the world.
can´t get any better then this. Absolute legend.
I've grown up listening to him, but I'm still amazed by his voice. Lovely person too. So glad you both you enjoyed this 💛
HE IS OFTEN CALLED " THE VOICE " AS HE IS CONSIDERED AUSTRALIA'S GREATEST SINGER EVER !
Our Aussie icon, The Voice!!!
you've just entered the John Farnham rabbit hole. :)
This was an encore after a 2 hour concert. Amazing.
Best vocal ever.
You have to watch John doing “Its a long way to the top”.It’s one of my favourites.
😢
It hasn't been reported John has lost part of his jaw , it's his mate from the Aussie TV show Hey Hey its Saturday lost part of his jaw ! But nothing has been written or spoken about John losing part of his jaw ! His son addressed media recently & didn't say anything like that , he actually said John has been walking around the house singing for the first time since leaving hospital.
Privileged to be at that concert, all his concerts are great,,he is a true Showman and great human. He is our National Treasure
We love John 👍🇦🇺
Hello from Vichy France ! after this song !!! you can listen to A touch of paradise is a very good song too ! belive me you enjoy !!! Bye
@@myeuphonyzone3958
And don’t forget, Old MacDonald had a Farm lol, as u know not in concert, but I love it and the fun they all had 😊
@@sopwithpuppy John Lennon said this is the way the song was always meant to to be done.
Definitely check out Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham "when something is wrong with my baby"... Live at the music awards.
Johnnie Farmhan is a legend.
Awesome thank you!
Astounding
his performances are Master Class.......
Try: ‘You’re the Voice’, ‘Age of Reason’, That’s Freedom’, ‘Touch of Paradise’, ‘When Something is wrong with my Baby’ with Jimmy Barnes; ‘Angels’ with Lisa Edwards,
‘It’s a long way to the Top’ with Tom Jones; ‘Grenada’ with Anthony Warlow and ‘Dare to Dream’ & ‘Please Don’t Ask Me’ with the late great Olivia Newton-John.
I was at this concert. Keep in mind that this was the last song in a nearly three hour concert!
You must listen to some of his other work. His talent is boundless. His voice astonishing. We love him.
Dont miss how great a shoman he is. Has takes the crowd inhis hand and molds it
An aussie legend. And you almost nailed it, his surname is pronounced Farnem.
redddo
It’s better to tell people to say, Farn-um, that’s how it
sounds naturally. If you tell them to say Farn-em
they will accentuate the, “e” sound.
@@xaj1543 right you are
Absolute legend
Aussie legend 👏👏👏
He has major health issues at the moment. All of us in Australia are hoping he gets through it all..he is a fighter of a bloke. Australia's most iconic singer!!!
Possibly the world's greatest!!
I believe this was the last song of a 2 hour set. John is a legend. You should hear him sing Black Dog. He sings this as a sound check. Incredible talent.
I have been lucky enough to have seen our wonderful John live many times over the years even in small pub settings. He is truly remarkable and adored here in Oz.
Would love you to react to the studio of When Something Is Wrong With My Baby with Jimmy Barnes it’s amazing too.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. It's awesome.
Our Farnsey! GOAT
