What a great reaction. This was my first Lethal Weapon movie. My older brother took me to see it when I was about 13. I loved it! All 4 movies are great and you are going to enjoy them. If you like a good parody, Loaded Weapon will be a nice fit as well.
I've noticed this too! Usually people who haven't seen a lot of films have no clue who an actor is, let alone their name or what films they've been in before.
An interesting thing to think about how times have changed is that a lot of these classic 80s/early 90s action films such as the LETHAL WEAPON films, TERMINATOR films, BEVERLY HILLS COP films, DIE HARD films, RAMBO films, and PREDATOR were all RATED R. Often released in the summer too! In the last 20-plus years that has almost never been done. If these 80s/early 90s action films were released today they would be PG-13.
You wanted them to take it up a notch. A sequel better than the first. We were just happy with the 2 way chemistry of Mel & Danny, but to add Joe and make it a 3 way chemistry. Amazing! The bad guys are so much better! In the late 80s to have South African villains was perfect. That reveal about what happened to Riggs wife. Big shocker! When I saw this in the theatre in the summer of 89 it was 1 of 3 times in my life where I was blown away by how beautiful the actress was. Pasty Kensit is the same age as me. When she died in the movie I yelled out loud "NOOOOOO!!" Lol. She was also the lead singer of an 80s pop-band "Eighth Wonder". 10 classic movies came out in the summer 89.
Coby, you've won me over. Your reactions are priceless and your reviews are genuine. Your love for movies is very clear. This is coming from another movie lover. You've picked some great films to watch. BTW, has anyone ever told you that you could be Kristy Carlson Romano's twin? (For the uninformed, she's the actress that played the voice of the cartoon character Kim Possible) You must have heard this before, lol. I can't be the only person whose said that to you.
A Krugerrand is gold or silver bullion coin from South Africa. The gold ones are worth over $2000 an ounce and the silver ones are worth over $23 an ounce.
Rika’s death bothered me as a kid, just like Quint’s fate in ”Jaws”. I was a kind and empathetic little boy. Now I’m pushing 40 and it still hurts a little bit. 1 and 2 are still some of the best action movies ever made. Great plot and acting and no CGI bullshit. 3 and 4 are also great, mind you. I love your reaction videos. 💙🥂
This movie introduced me to Cheer Down, by George Harrison, the song played during the closing credits! What a great song to end an entertaining movie! Love your analysis!
My favorite among the franchise. Much darker especially when the story is connected to death of Riggs wife. Leo Gets was a good addition to add a bit of humor to it.
There are precious few franchises that actually get better with each sequel. So far I've seen your reactions to the Rocky franchise and now this one. And where you may have seen the best of the Rocky series with Rocky III this one has yet to peak. I had a blast watching along. See you in the next one.
I do enjoy that Coby is one of the few reactors that has knowledge of movies and actors. A woman after my own heart haha. Also, now that she’s watched these 2 you need to have her react to Loaded Weapon.
I got to see this movie with a billionaire. The founder of Subway use to buy early access viewings for his employees and their families and my mother was working there at the time. The entire theater was rented out for the event. And it was a few weeks before the movie was even released. Fact that it was the best of the 4 made it even better.
Great reaction to an awesome movie! Krugerrands were gold bullion coins minted in South Africa and, during the embargoes on South Africa during Apartheid they were illegal to import to the U.S. Thus a trunk full of Krugerrands was a huge fortune in illegal gold and, for those of us alive in this era, gave us a big hint who the villains would be in this movie. Since most of us didn't speak/recognize Afrikkans when it came over the radios as the villains called for the helicopter. Afrikkans is the official language of South Africa and is roughly based on the Dutch language of the early settlers, which is why Riggs thought it might be German. Putting the dislocated shoulder back in socket in the Riggs fashion is possible, but NOT recommended. I still have bone fragments in and around my shoulder joint from when I did it back in the day. Took four excruciating attempts before it basically got back in socket. But it wasn't a proper reseating so a month or two later it got jarred out again from a hard hit. That time I let a doctor put it back properly. It's not the age difference that stops Riggs, its that she's Murtaugh's daughter. And, as we see more in this movie, Murtaugh's family is now Riggs' family, so it's even less likely to happen now. Pesci as Leo is SO FRICKING ANNOYING and yet he's equally endearing too. So amazing that he can walk that very thin line so well. 😀 Admittedly, most of the low level villains wouldn't have a clue who Leo was, since information about money launderers and other outside people would be on a strict need to know basis. Leadership needs to know, the assassin sent to shut him up needs to know, and that's it. No one wants to have their entire operation revealed by some low level flunky who gets picked up and spills all he knows for a better deal. Diplomatic immunity as protection for a state funded crime ring is a neat hook, and one based in reality too. For countries suffering under embargoes who needed access to markets to support their tax base and keep their, in this case, racist leaders in power, using diplomatic embassies and the freedom that diplomatic immunity gives gave them a limited access to markets to exploit. Selling Krugerrands was a significant source of revenue and shipping supplies of them to embassies under the cover of diplomatic packets gave them a bypass for the embargoes. The customers were still going to be there as gold is a guaranteed value item, and is considered a necessary investment for large scale investors. And the Krugerrands being coins instead of the standard bullion bars made them much easier to transport and quietly sell for cash to support the nation state. The only recourse that the police had was to try to convince the State Department that the embassy was breaking serious state or international laws and get the diplomats expelled from the country. Whereupon new ambassadors and diplomats who are cut out of the same cloth as their predecessors are sent to replace them and the game goes on. Also, Joss Ackland, who plays the criminal mastermind here, was a great man for accents. He's British through and through but I've seen him doing a variety of accents and speech patterns in a variety of performances. SA here, Russian in Hunt For Red October, and more. He just passed away four months ago at the age of 95. When Leo gets captured in the car, they don't just kill him because they want to know what he has told the police, and since he's been in custody with a couple of the cops who have really been a pain in their butts, he's probably learned a lot of what they know. They'll torture him first for information, THEN they'll put a bullet in his head. The scene on the dock shows part of what makes these movies stand above other buddy cop movies. Victoria's death was a cornerstone for Riggs character in the first movie, and that cornerstone was still present in this movie, just like the memory of Victoria remains always in Martin's mind. From the gold pen found in the wash and the story of the night his wife died that he struggled to talk about, to where Vorstedt tells him the REAL story of his wife's death, that cornerstone remains in place and it still key to both the character of Martin and the story we're hearing. And then finding poor Rika after that... Just the worst. Patsy Kensit did a great job as Rika. I agree that the accent wasn't as good as Ackland or O'Connor (Derrick O'Connor played Vorstedt, Rudd's right hand man) but she still did well. Also, Vorstedt had possibly my favorite line in this movie. Rudd: What are you doing? Vorstedt: Just checking to see if I was standing on plastic. I agree with you that two was better than one, if for no other reason that the martial arts fight wasn't lame. The story was much better and tighter, but it also didn't require introductions to the main characters, which can often be a pacing issue for the story. It also had Jenette Goldstein in it, who is in three of my favorite movie series and who unfortunately dies in all three. In this instance she died going for a swim. This movie also introduced third wheel Leo Getz, who was a fun addition to the cast. Pesci is so brilliant at roles like this, annoying as eff but you can't help but like the guy. 😀 I like three just as much as two. Hope you do too!
This is my favorite chapter in the Lethal Weapon franchise. When Martin tells Trish the story about the gold pen and Roger is clueless is great. They give each other a look that is priceless. When the red-headed South African henchman tells Riggs about how he killed his wife I knew he was going to have a brutal death.
Everyone has a favorite Lethal Weapon, and this was mine. Filmed two years before Mandela's release and the end of South Africa's sadistic apartheid government. Leo was too likable to kill, Okay?😂
Its fun having diplomatic immunity, i experienced it during an internship in usa. The level of respect from police etc. Is really something. Wish everyone could try and see what that is like. Ie. U skip lines in airports and excorted through before everyone else and nobody searches u. If i showed my visa in stores i didnt have to pay tax on items, wish i knew that from the beginning of my stay😁 Really fun and everlasting memory of the usa for me.
I took a picture in front of Nakatomi at Christmas, so we must have driven by whatever hotel Leo was staying at while looking for how to get as close as possible to Nakatomi.
My favorite of all the Lethal Weapon movies. It was funnier, had some great action scenes and had an emotional punch as well. Joe Pesci was priceless in this movie. I loved every minute he was on screen. My favorite scene would have to be the one where Riggs tells Trish about the night his wife died. It was a touching moment between them. Dean Norris was also in Terminator 2 as the S.W.A.T. team leader at Cyberdyne and he was also in the original Total Recall as Tony, one of the mutants Quaid meets when he gets to Mars. Going to close by saying I always watch all the closing credits to listen to Cheer Down by George Harrison. This movie was the first time I heard that song and I fell in love with it. Makes me want to listen to it right now.
I also thought that Murtaugh's daughter had a big age difference with Mel Gibson but no, she is only 4 years younger than Mel Gibson, they are almost the same age, she looks younger in the first movie but no, Mel is now 68 and the actress who plays Murtaugh's daughter is 64, they are of the same generation. Mel at that time would be about 33 and she would be about 29.
Fun fact about this one was that it was meant to be the last one. Shane Black wrote Lethal Weapon with a 2 part story in mind which is why the loose plot points are wound up such Riggs avenges his wife… he was meant to die in the end but WB wanted more and so he survives.
In the original script, Riggs dies at the end of this film, but the studio wanted to keep him alive for sequels and asked for rewrites to make it not so dark.
"Be better to just pull it out." If you ever get stabbed never, ever, ever just pull out the knife, because it's quite likely plugging the very wound it just inflicted. Pulling it would be an easy way to bleed out.
loved the reaction. Personally, I rank them 2,4,1,3. Not that big on the bad guy in #3. #4 has everything in it for audiences to be entertained. It was the perfect wrap-up of the series. I don't know what to expect from #5 except them coming out of retirement or something.
This is one of the rare movies that is also kind of timely. Now South Africa is a bastion of multi-racial and multi-cultural democracy. The turn around they've had is pretty impressive. I got to go to Cape Town for work, it was an absolute delight.
It’s a cesspool of incompetence, crime and decay actually, there are even blacks who are saying that life was better during apartheid! It was the only way, blacks can’t govern themselves..
If someone has diplomatic immunity, the host country can request that the diplomates home country revoke the immunity. The host countries are usually reluctant to do this, but it can happen. The diplomates can however face sanctions at home and the host country *can* force the diplomate's home country to recall them immediately. They can't prosecute but they can kick them out.
10:05 -- RE: I didn't know Pesci was in Lethal Weapon movies!; A: Yep, he's basically the most subtle change to the cast dynamic following the first film, a "5th Business" character who is also comic relief. Instead of being cringe, he's hilarious, so hilarious they kept his character for the remainder of the franchise.
I must give you a non-spoiler heads up for Lethal Weapon 3. Watch the movie all the way through the end credits, there's an after-credit scene; it's nothing big, but it plays as a full circle moment to the start of the film.
I don’t if this has already been said, but the gold pen story was only shared with Trish shows that he considers her family (he is washing his clothes at their place) and values her understanding of him
Coby, I saw an interview Joe Pesci did some years after the movie came out. He said he got the inspiration to use the "ok ok ok k k" from an employee at a theme park who was attempting to give him directions.
If you're a diplomat and break a law that is also a law in your home county you can be arrested. But you can't be tired. But our State department would expell them
Oh one more thing. Once you get done with the movies, I would suggest watching the 1st 2 seasons of the TV series that came out a few years back. It has 3 seasons but up to you on the 3rd one.
Ficus elastica, the rubber fig, rubber bush, rubber tree, rubber plant, or Indian rubber bush, Indian rubber tree, is a species of flowering plant in the family Moraceae, native to eastern parts of South and Southeast Asia. 13:50 -- RE: "I wonder how hard it would be to hang onto the roof of a car..."; A: Old School Stunts were indeed not all that long ago and, in some ways, they're still with us in form and function. That's part of the reason why, after 2009, even TV shows were looking for excuses to wreck cars in stunts, because not only are practical effects more impressive than CGI, old off-lease and repossessed cars were *cheap as dirt* after the Bailout. Not cheaper than stunt performers, though, so they'd simply wreck the car and avoid flashy stuff like putting someone onto the car and having them try to hold onto the roof or hood. Mythbusters is perhaps the best example of all for this. But yeah, Stunts didn't go anywhere. If you haven't already seen the "Grindhouse" double-feature from Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino, it's time to add "Death Proof" to your "Must Watch" list. "Death Proof" (no spoilers) has the distinction of being the film that Tarantino used to introduce us the Audience to Zoe Bell, the stunt performer who was Uma Thurman's body double for "Kill Bill". Since then, Zoe's been turning up in Tarantino's films in supporting roles: she's the driver of the stagecoach in "Hateful 8", she's the person who owns the car that Bruce Lee gets thrown into in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", etcetera.
16:17 their home country can revoke their diplomatic immunity. They also can be kicked out of the country if it’s proven they did a capital offense. 16:55 he handled it the best way. If he would’ve acted negatively then they would keep doing it. 21:08 mythbusters proved it would freeze the bomb for longer than that. 32:06 Riggs’ be careful is more “look before you shoot but still take them all out” instead of blindly shooting. 34:20 I love the part during this fight scene where Riggs wastes about a clip on one guy saying the names of all the deceased caused by them.
Coby, you were correct about a former spouse of Patsy Kensit (Rika): Kensit has been married and divorced four times. In 1988, she married Dan Donovan of the band Big Audio Dynamite but they divorced in 1991. In 1992, she married Jim Kerr, lead singer of Simple Minds. During the marriage, she gave birth to her first child, a son in 1993. Kensit and Kerr divorced in 1996. In April 1997, she married Liam Gallagher from the band Oasis at Marylebone Town Hall.[22] Kensit and Gallagher had a son, Lennon, born 13 September 1999, who was named after John Lennon. Lennon's godmother is actress Elizabeth Hurley, Kensit's co-star in the film Kill Cruise.[23] Kensit and Gallagher divorced in 2000. She later became involved with the DJ Jeremy Healy and announced that she was marrying for a fourth time on 29 November 2007.[24] On 31 March 2008, it was reported that the pair had split by mutual consent and had called off their wedding.[25] They reconciled, and married on 18 April 2009, in an event covered by a celebrity magazine,[26] but it was reported in February 2010 that the couple had separated with their divorce confirmed later in the year. Healy was not mentioned in her 2013 autobiography. After a relationship with footballer Ally McCoist in 2001,[27] Kensit later became involved with rap artist and beatboxer Killa Kela. They split up after a year, with Kensit stating that she did not see a future with Kela.[28] She has also been romantically linked with footballer Ryan Giggs,[29] comedian and actor David Walliams[30] and footballer Michael Gray.[31] From her Wikipedia page...
Diplomatic immunity doesn’t quite work the way it’s depicted in the movie. In this sort of situation the US would demand the South African government withdraw the consul general’s diplomatic immunity. If they refused, the US would designate the consul general “persona non grata” and expel him from the country. In short, for major crimes, diplomatic immunity doesn’t mean u can have ur cake and eat it too. Parking tickets and small violations on the other hand are a different matter.

In the original script, Riggs does die. The studio changed the ending.
They knew more $$$ would come from more sequels. Made no financial sense for the movie studio to kill-off Riggs.

Dean Norris was also in Total Recall (Tony with the face flap) and Starship Troopers.
My new fav reactor! Glad you enjoyed Coby
Just Googled it for fun... In case you ever wondered how many times Joe Pesci says OK in Lethal Weapon 2 - JUST LETHAL WEAPON 2 - it's 105 times.
oh my
My favorite among the franchise.
Rocky 3 was hardly the best of that franchise
@@tosweet68 That's my opinion. And, for the record, Stallone agrees.
I do enjoy that Coby is one of the few reactors that has knowledge of movies and actors. A woman after my own heart haha. Also, now that she’s watched these 2 you need to have her react to Loaded Weapon.
oh wow great idea - we still need to record 3 and 4 tho first
@@criminalcontent well I was also thinking I believe it’s only spoofed on the first couple, I suppose maybe the 3rd too.
26:19 Joe Pesci says "okay 105 times in this movie.
I got to see this movie with a billionaire. The founder of Subway use to buy early access viewings for his employees and their families and my mother was working there at the time. The entire theater was rented out for the event. And it was a few weeks before the movie was even released. Fact that it was the best of the 4 made it even better.
great story !
The minute you said South African accent I was like I’m so happy I subbed you are the first reactor to get this right
Well impressed
welcome aboard ! Thanks !
Knocking on Heaven's Door, Eric Clapton. Cheer down, George Harrison.
*Just remember, Lethal Weapon 3 has an end credits scene.*😁
🚓💨🏢💥
Coby, btw Patsy was 21 when this film was released so younger than Traci Wolfe...lol She was born on March 4, 1968 so almost 57 now.
Admittedly, most of the low level villains wouldn't have a clue who Leo was, since information about money launderers and other outside people would be on a strict need to know basis.
I like three just as much as two.
When this movie came out we didn't know there would be a 3rd..... We all thought Riggs was dead too.....great reaction..
See, I told u! In ur first one I said watch all 4, to close out their stories, but 2 is best! Pesci and Glover did their own comedy together!
Everyone has a favorite Lethal Weapon, and this was mine. Filmed two years before Mandela's release and the end of South Africa's sadistic apartheid government. Leo was too likable to kill, Okay?😂
The end of a great dispensation actually, spoken like a true foreigner who is clueless!
@@BullbothaAh, gotta love the irony of an invader deriding someone else as a “foreigner.”
@@Bullbothawe all know who you were rooting for in this movie.
@@justinpitcock5312 yes mel gibson, because the British actors with their bad accents and way off imitation of us was terrible..
Its fun having diplomatic immunity, i experienced it during an internship in usa.
The level of respect from police etc. Is really something.
Wish everyone could try and see what that is like.
Ie. U skip lines in airports and excorted through before everyone else and nobody searches u.
If i showed my visa in stores i didnt have to pay tax on items, wish i knew that from the beginning of my stay😁
Really fun and everlasting memory of the usa for me.
10:55 Is it me or is that the Nakatomi Building in the background when the bad guy gets out of the pool????? 😮😮
It's definitely the Fox Plaza Tower from Die Hard. Great catch, and time stamp!
I took a picture in front of Nakatomi at Christmas, so we must have driven by whatever hotel Leo was staying at while looking for how to get as close as possible to Nakatomi.
Yes
Can't wait for you to do "Lethal Weapon 4". Jet Li is a beast in that film. Great reactions on the channel.
some time in mid April we’ll drop the other two - the 4th is the most fun
@@criminalcontent Yes, definitely looking forward to that. Great channel. Many thanks and all the best.
My favorite of the series. Perfect blend of action and comedy in this one.
"...because you're bleck..." "You are..." my favorite scene.
17:19 Yes, Patsy Kensit and Liam Gallagher were married 1997-2000. (She is his first of two ex-wives; and he is her third of four ex-husbands.)
Bob Blanket and the Cast Iron Tub... Sounds like a TV Show in the 80's. lol
Her reign as having the cutest looks and personality on the inferwebs remains intact … he types while battling malignant swooning.
The wife, Darlene Love 🥰was part of a singing group “Bobby Sox & the Blue Jeans, “the Blossoms” 😬
Great job as always Coby. As for this series of movies, they really do get better and better. Enjoy!
their movies just get better and better, keep watching them ..
That was a fun reaction Coby. Already hyped for part 3 :)
A couple character actors in tons of stuff. Hank was in The Firm, Terminator 2 and some others. Spanish female cop in Aliens and Terminator 2!
All 4 of these movies are superb Coby
FYI the toilet was still in front of the house behind the bushes when they filmed Christmas vacation there.😂
WOW just got through watching your Lethal 1 reaction. I commented on the other that these are my annual marathon watch. Very Well Done! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Riggs was originally supposed to die in Lethal Weapon 2. At the last minute they changed the ending.
"Be better to just pull it out."
If you ever get stabbed never, ever, ever just pull out the knife, because it's quite likely plugging the very wound it just inflicted.
Pulling it would be an easy way to bleed out.
The actress who plays Shapiro also played Vasquez in "Aliens" and John Conner's foster mother in Terminator 2.
The beautiful blonde is Patsy Kensit.
She was England's version of Madonna.
loved the reaction. Personally, I rank them 2,4,1,3. Not that big on the bad guy in #3. #4 has everything in it for audiences to be entertained. It was the perfect wrap-up of the series. I don't know what to expect from #5 except them coming out of retirement or something.
new drinking game, take a shot every time pesci says ok
That kind of self-harm was supposed to end after _Lethal Weapon I_ you know? 😁
I once tried it. I was in hospital for three days. 🤒
In the first movie Roger's daughter Rianne was supposed to be 17. She said so when she was talking to her dad outside.
Loaded Weapon
Is a great comedy movie to watch after these
That guy that got shot in the head in the beginning was also in The Shawshank Redemption.
The lady cop in this movie was also Vasquez in Aliens and John Connors step mom in Terminator 2.
Lethal Weapon 4 is the best IMO
The female cop that blew up in the pool is Vasquez from ALIENS, and John Conner's foster mom in TERMINATOR 2
I LOVE this movie! I've loved it since the first time I saw it. It's easily the best for me.
"Shootin' the breeze. Shootin' his fish"

17:20 - LIAM GALLAGHER - Yes, correct. Patsy Kensit was involved with and has a child with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
Coby you are the.most knowledgeable movie reactor ive seen....you are awesome and you make watching these.movies alotta fun
Someone with diplomatic immunity who is committing crimes can be deported and denied entry for all time.
Alot of people die on toliets....in my world the space between sink and Toilet is called death portal
They split up after a year, with Kensit stating that she did not see a future with Kela.[28] She has also been romantically linked with footballer Ryan Giggs,[29] comedian and actor David Walliams[30] and footballer Michael Gray.[31]
From her Wikipedia page...
Just recently came across your channel, but I love your reactions. Thanks, Coby!
Great reaction 🔥
Thank you!!
"it's going to be for condoms", Cody laughs hysterically.
I know this was 3 months ago, but I only just watched your reaction.
This movie was right in my young man prime. I saw it many times at the cinema.
I don’t know if you noticed this, but he took her back to the apartment and told her to quit her job. “There are better ways to stay in LA”
He was going to marry her!!!
Just a heads up for you regarding "Lethal Weapon 3": the is an end credit scene at the very end of the movie - I wouldn't want you to miss it! 😉
4:57 He's saying "krugerrand" it's a coin from South Africa. Very illegal in western countries during the 70's and 80's
