Johnnyboy792 thanks, when I try to tell people now how life in the 70's were they think I'm bullshittin! And I just laugh at them and feel sorry they missed the best times to grow up!
You are very welcome! And thank you for bringing those magical memories back! I love all of your where were you videos, but the 70's ones are my favorite! Now if you could beam me back there?!! I think I would stay!
End of 7th grade beginning of 8th grade. I was 13 yrs old...went to see "Grease" with my best childhood friend. It was a good time!! 1978 was a great year!! I wish we had times like that again!!😊
When I watch your videos, I love reading the comments from those before me. They seem like a legend to me when they talk about the good Ole days. Oh I was born in 94.
My first year of middle school, such an awkward time but boy I am I ever so happy to have the memories of these 1978 days!! Love the music! Thanks for posting!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to compile these histories. I can't help thinking the 60's and 70's were the two best decades of the 20th century.
Ah, 1978. I was in second grade. My friends and I were still reenacting scenes from Star Wars in the neighborhood, and we were all looking forward to the new Superman movie with great anticipation. Mr. Potato Head and Earthquake Tower were the most fun toys in my room and later that year I would begin a never ending love affair with video games when my folks got us an Atari for Christmas. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
+InformationIsTheEdge I got my license when Superman came out... that was my first take the car out movies moment. Still remember it till this day :) Thanks for tuning in - JB
Thank you for making these videos. What's really weird is watching this and realizing how so many of those you saw on the Tube back then ended up, like Sadat being assassinated, Pete Rose being barred from baseball, etc. Sometimes you get so caught up in where you are right now that you forget where you've been, and how you lived. Like life itself, these are bitter-sweet reminders.
1978 was pretty cool. Never forget I was 11 years old and my Aunt Jill let me stay up late for the first time ever to watch her favorite show, Midnight Special, with her and was introduced to my future favorite rock singer, Steve Perry in Journey. Also Las Vegas at that time really did look like what people saw on Vega$. I just LOVE all of your videos, they cheer me up when I need a little visual pick me up :)
I was 26 and hubby was 29 and we had just bought a fixer up house in the small city, then, of Yorba Linda, California. Still fixing it up 41 years later but it is paid for. Wow, we both worked and watched movies and tv and read books and listened to music and went on vacations and danced to disco music and ballgames and our lives were never dull! America Rules !
I was in Royal Oak, Michigan. 5th Grade I think. The winter was awesome, and that whole year was just as spectacular................at least as I remember it. Thanks again for the work Johnnyboy 792. Great job sir.
This was the year my youngest was born. To see her grow like a flash in the pan, this video seems to take me back where it all began for her. Time is the thief and it moves so quickly.
I remember the "Special Report" interruption about Jim Jones aired right after Saturday Night Live and how the people & I who were watching (and partying) with thought it was just another SNL skit at first. Such is life.
Schools were closed on my birthday because of that blizzard! I graduated high school and went to college in New York City--saw National Lampoon in a midtown movie theater where there was a smoking section in the balcony. Where I grew up, there was no smoking in movies, and no balconies either! Boy, I didn't know anything! Thanks for the memories.
I was 13yrs old.......without a care in the world. Most I worried about was who was on my kick ball team. Miss those days and thank you for allowing us these great lasting memories. I can't lie watching all this makes me a bit teary eyed.
Man Johnny, I wish we could go back. I was in 10th grade, growing up in Massapequa, NY. I miss those days but I especially miss the people, so many people gone now.
I was 8 years old in 1978. Looking back I can hardly imagine how we survived without all todays technology. Somehow we did and I wish we could go back to those simpler times. I guess that makes me old. Great memories. I remember crushing on the Hardie Boys.
I was only five years old in 1978 but still remember some of these things, especially the TV shows. I remember being scared by the Jonestown images on TV, loved the Incredible Hulk and Battlestar Galactica, and had the time of my life during the great Blizzard of '78, when the snow piles were taller than I was! What an era to be a kid.
Mine does. We sometimes travel and stay in a hotel. No recording of shows, no rewinding, no pausing, no HD channels makes checking the local attractions REAL easy.
Another great blast to the past! The old TV hand dial channel changing is a nice style! The accuracy of the timeline of these shows and events is amazing. Very entertaining watching!
I so appreciate your work Johnnyboy79. I was 16. Got my my drivers license, my first job, my first kiss. I was coming of age and it was wonderful! Thank you so much!
Oh lordy...in '78 I was 13, couldn't get enough of Grease, horses, and Halloween! Everything was all about the beach here in Florida, and life was good...
I love your videos! I was 7 yrs old in 1978 and this brings back so many memories ~ sometimes I wish I could go back in time & do it all over again, things were so much simpler back then. Thank you for posting and keep them coming! ❤️
These videos are fabulous! So many wonderful memories. Even the ones I didn't remember, lol. I remember Pop and Ma taking us to see Animal House. I was 13, LOL!!! Oh, and thanks for putting in the Thurman Munson Aqua Velva commerical!! So much fun!!!!!
I was 16. My mother got me a cassette of Grease soundtrack as one of my Christmas presents:) I also got a small, handheld radio (Norelco?) anyway, I had so much enjoyment from that little thing that I carried with me everywhere! Used to really like the Nancy Drew shows... I remember "Ready to Take a Chance Again" (Barry Manilow) was so pretty, from the movie "Foul Play," Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. I had a total crush on Andy Gibb with the Shadow Dancing song, and oh my God, I thought I would die if I couldn't meet Robby Benson (saw him in t.v. version of "Our Town" that June) and they came out with "Ice Castles" movie in December. Loved "Have you Never Been Mellow," "Time Passages" (Al Stewart) and Y.M.C.A. songs.
I was 11 years old Wayne NJ living the good life. Some of the greatest movies and sitcoms. Looking back we really enjoyed life. It seems to me the new generation is never satisfied with anything. Hate to be them.
1978 was actually a pretty fun year for me. I turned 13 in June. we lived in a small town 100 miles from Chicago. I was attending a Lutheran school in Rockford IL where we went to church. I went to Branson MO with my aunt and uncle in July, got sick! my aunt said maybe there was something in the water that didn't agree with me. went to vacation bible school with my friend and ran into a kid from my old school and teased him! I called him "batman" because he had worn a batman costume for trick or treat when we were younger! drove my friend crazy because I wouldn't stop talking about it and giggling over it. a lot of good tunes on the radio, always had it on (WLS Chicago). we got new neighbors so I had more kids to hang out with. visited Chicago's field museum and saw the ruins of Pompei in the fall of '78.
All of ten. First pair of rollerskates. Finally no more stinky skates. Lol. Saw Grease at the drive in. Ended up sitting by myself, thank you. Sometimes me myself and I really were better company...but was hard to take the things going wrong:(
I remember the "blizzard of "78" we were out of school for the entire month of January due to snow and freezing temps .I believe that winter was the one that whad the most snow and digits like 30 below zero that I can remember even now as an adult I still haven't experienced that type of weather again. Anyway "77-78" were both kick ass winters.
I remember the blizzard of '78 also. It was my senior year and we were out for 2 and half weeks there was so much snow. I've been in blizzards since, but the Blizzard of '78 was granddaddy of them all! LOL!!!
Holy Cow!!!! The Anhauser Busch Natural Light Commercial,"You can call me Ray"... Classic!!!! Brilliant Editing. You Are a true ARTIST!!!! Thanks for the memories!!!!
I was 6 six years old. I remember most of that, but I didn't realize how much of a memorable year that was for both television and movies. Of course, I remembered that being the year for Grease and Animal House, but I forgot about the other movies that year. What young boys could forget The Incredible Hulk and Battle Star Galactica released on television, especially on the heels of the Star Wars popularity. This was also the year that I remember the first Star Wars action figures hitting the market, which changed everything. On a more serious note, I couldn't read very well, but I was certainly fascinated with the Jim Jones tragedy being all over the news and magazines.
I was 12 in 1978 and I can remember waking up for school and the Jim Jones tragedy was all over the news .At my age I really didn't grasp it all but now I realize it was about ppl that were searching for a happy place where they felt like they belonged only find out later (if they were one of the lucky ones to get out in time) that they were living and being controlled by a psychopath.
+Judy Holiday my mom was only 9 in '78 when she and my grandparents see news of the massacre that night.seeing all those bodies had a traumatic effect on her
I turned 11 in November of that year and the biggest thing I remember was the release of Superman The Movie. My sister was into Greese. She had the album and played it over and over all the damn day long.I got to the point I could sing every song from overhearing it in my bedroom next to hers. It was a great time for genre T.V. Man from Atlantis, The Incredible Hulk, Battle Star Galactica and Wonder Woman were all favorites of mine and Quicy MD was a favorite of my mother on Friday nights.
This was awesome, so many memories. I was 9 that year and I remember all of this. My mom loved disco and played those songs on 8 track tapes, and she loved Dallas. My brother and I never missed the Hulk, Different Strokes, or the Hardy Boys.
I was 16 yrs old and ran away from home,,i ended up in nyc,,I got to go in studio 54 with new friends,,none of us were 18 and none of us got carded,,steve let us in when my friend took off his shirt,,i lived in the Tremont section of the Bronx for 3 yrs,,then came back to texas,,,,,,I MISS NEW YORK!!!!
During the storm, Cars were abandoned along Route 128 now 95. for abut a week. No school, snow everywhere in 6 to 10 foot piles after plowing and shoveling, I was 10. Many memories.
Ha! Watched Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys....had poster of Shaun Cassidy on my wall, until Nadia won the Olympics in 76, down came Cassidy & up went Nadia. I started watching these because I dreamed I was in the house I grew up in...but other than Dallas, I see TV shows I wasn't allowed to watch & music I had no idea was so old.
I remember the snowstorm of 1978 and I was in high school. And the school was closed due to the snowstorm. The winters of 1977-1978, were wicked winters!❄⛄
I was a child in '78 and the Jim Jones massacre effected me gravely. I remember seeing all the bodies lying face down. First time I had ever heard of Guyana.
Johnnyboy792 this is exactly what the slogan "make America great again" means to me! 😘💓💕💞 I see ALL kinds of people, all colors, and genders...included, accepted, celebrated and loved....being Americans, being cool.
I remember when the head popped out of the boat underwater in Jaws, i got up out of my seat in the theater, and went screaming down the aisle to get the hell out of there. Of course i was 12...but man, embarrassing!
I was 'warming-up' for the toughest 10 years of my life. Already immersed in alcohol when Cocaine came around I jumped in feet first. As the saying goes when you find yourself in a hole quit digging, I quit digging in '89 and climbed back out into the sun; God, it was good, I had forgotten how to laugh or smile without something to alter my mood. Was not all bad, we'd close down the restaurant keeping only the Coke-dealing customers and dance til dawn but I paid dearly the morning after; glad I got clan & sober young, surprised I remember as much as I do!
Wow. The Deer Hunter, Jaws, Halloween, Superman at the theater, Battlestar Galactica, Incredible Hulk, Angie (I had a HUGE crush on Donna Pescow), WKRP, Taxi and Nair Commericials (which may not have instigated my puberty but didn't hurt the situation any). What a YEAR!
I was taking driver's ed in the fall. I was carrying my old TI-59 calculator around like a gunslinger, the way people carry cell phones today. I had soldered my first 8 bit micrcomputer, the ET-3400.
I was 5 years old in 1978 and remember very little of the things from the first half of the video, yet remember most of the things from the second half. It's so weird because the video over 1977, when I was 4, I remembered most of the things in.
15 years old in 78 .... I Wish I Could go back and STAY in the 70's
Me as well Mario... thanks for watching.:)

Johnnyboy792 thanks, when I try to tell people now how life in the 70's were they think I'm bullshittin! And I just laugh at them and feel sorry they missed the best times to grow up!

Thanks so much Lee... we were a lucky generation :):):)
You are very welcome! And thank you for bringing those magical memories back! I love all of your where were you videos, but the 70's ones are my favorite! Now if you could beam me back there?!! I think I would stay!

Everyone who was 13, like me, raise your hand!! 🙋♀️ Those were the days my friend...we thought they'd never end!!😢 Now, I am pushing 60!! 😮
We had three channels on our tv & the knob broke off so we had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to change channels.

Thank you Helen !!!!
Thank you
My pleasure :)
I remember the blizzard of 78. Also remember the news talked about the concern of a colder climate and the possibility of a new ice age.
1978... the year I was born, during a horrible snow storm in February, and the year of the all-time best horror movie EVER made... "Halloween".
I so remember that storm... I was in it :) - JB
My parents had quite a hard time getting to the hospital, they say there was 13 inches of snow, and all they had was a Mustang.
I'm happy you made it Miranda :)
Thank you!♡
And thanks for making these videos! I'm going to make my kids watch this one! :)
Hope they enjoy it... this generation needs things to explode every 5 minutes LOL

It was a wonderful time. I saw Grease 12 times that summer.
Only Once ? LOL
Dallas was my favorite program from 1978-1987 and i remember watching Halloween at the drive in in 1979
Thank you so much for taking the time to compile these histories. I can't help thinking the 60's and 70's were the two best decades of the 20th century.
You're not the only one Karras :):):)
That sounds awesome. Thanks for the share :)
Just like '76, '78 was another great year for Television and Movies.

Chuck Hayes
the Great Blizzard of '78! I remember it closed schools for us for two weeks!
The blizzard was awesome. I skitched during the whole thing. Must have logged 100 hours on the bumper of a UPS truck. Those were the days!
A whole week off at school... so awesome !!!
This was the year my youngest was born. To see her grow like a flash in the pan, this video seems to take me back where it all began for her. Time is the thief and it moves so quickly.
Another awesome upload sir!! Thank you for sending us back in time!! Take care.
I remember the "Special Report" interruption about Jim Jones aired right after Saturday Night Live and how the people & I who were watching (and partying) with thought it was just another SNL skit at first. Such is life.
TV was free! So were people!
I was 12.
My friends and I would act out Grease songs in my next door neighbors garage during the summer of ‘78 *GOOD TIMES*😁
I can picture it now :):):)
There is a dance sequence in the movie “Airplane “ that parodies “Grease” .
I hear you Joe. We didn't take time to appreciate it. Thank you :)
I was 8 years old in 1978. Looking back I can hardly imagine how we survived without all todays technology. Somehow we did and I wish we could go back to those simpler times. I guess that makes me old. Great memories. I remember crushing on the Hardie Boys.

All are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks
+Donnie Downer Hey Thanks DD !!! More coming down the road :)
Kids today have no idea how amazing it was to be able to record a show at home
I thought the VCR was the greatest invention ever :)
Mine does. We sometimes travel and stay in a hotel. No recording of shows, no rewinding, no pausing, no HD channels makes checking the local attractions REAL easy.
Kids now-a-days don't know what it's like not to wan't to be indoors
You can still do that if you have blank recordable CDs.
Love how you put this together! I was 8 yrs. old back then! Great job my 70's brother!
I did the whole decade Fred... moving onto the 80's :)
Ah the memories!!....I was 8 years old..All I wanted to do was watch Saturday morning cartoons...go fishing....and play football!!
Fed up with Fed Same here!!!
I was with my dad at the Ford dealer when he took delivery of a brand new Bronco on 4/20/78.
You have the best videos, Johnny Boy!! They make me so happy 😁💃 🕺🪩 BTW...I had a cousin named Johnny Boy.😊
Steve Rubel predicted influencers and reality stars! Who knew! I love your videos! I laugh, I cry, I find who I am.

Oh, and my favorite song of that year, "Hold the Line" by Toto!

She had the
album and played it over and over all the damn day long.I got to the point I could sing every song from overhearing it in my bedroom next to hers.
It was a great time for genre T.V. Man from Atlantis, The Incredible Hulk, Battle Star Galactica and Wonder Woman were all favorites of
mine and Quicy MD was a favorite of my mother on Friday nights.
Damn, I meant Grease not Greese.
I was 5 and it's crazy how well I remember this stuff. Crazy how fast time flies
Thanks OonaVakind !!! I hope it brought a smile :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I know it took a lot of time. Thanks Johonnyboy

I remember the snowstorm of 1978 and I was in high school. And the school was closed due to the snowstorm. The winters of 1977-1978, were wicked winters!❄⛄
I was 18 in 1978 and remember every bit of what's in this video.
Me too.
I was a child in '78 and the Jim Jones massacre effected me gravely. I remember seeing all the bodies lying face down. First time I had ever heard of Guyana.
Great video of 1978. I was 8 in 78 in Queens NY

:)
The Deer Hunter, that's a really good movie!! Did you catch a glimpse of a young Christopher Walken? Will have to watch that again soon!
Awesome performance :)
Hope it revived some simmering hormones for you Buddy :)
There will always be something magical about those late '70s running shorts with the piping around them!
Now we are getting into the era's I remember clear as day.....awesome
+Offical Diesel Confederacy lol Thanks ODC !!! Hope you don't mind though but my next one is 69'. Have to take care of the older brothers & sisters :)
I was born in 69! I will look forward to that one as well
One Birthday DVD coming up ! :)
do you got one for 1971 the year I born
I do Corey... check it out :)
I was taking driver's ed in the fall. I was carrying my old TI-59 calculator around like a gunslinger, the way people carry cell phones today. I had soldered my first 8 bit micrcomputer, the ET-3400.
High sophomore. Halloween was so scary. After the movie was over, people ran to their cars.
I was 5 years old in 1978 and remember very little of the things from the first half of the video, yet remember most of the things from the second half. It's so weird because the video over 1977, when I was 4, I remembered most of the things in.
We take in a lot more than we think. Thanks so much for watching :)
