    Hi Gabe, I have been watching your minimalism journey and have been a minimalist myself for about 6 years. My entire life has changed because of it! Instead of valuing things, cars, houses, stuff, I know whats important in life! I value life itself and I am grateful for every little thing. I value my family, my time, food, my apartment. I love saving money and feeling safe and helping others. I know I can handle it if some unexpected expense comes up. I am a 64 year young woman who finally realized what life is all about and I am content. Thank you for your many years of inspiring videos! I love seeing you and your family grow. ❤

    I'm someone who is not a minimalist, but shooting for "minimalish." I've decluttered 80%+ of my belongings, but where I like to have a collection is books. And, yes, Kindle, but I feel happy when I have books around me. I live alone but have dishes to serve 6-8. This choice I made because I want to have my kids home for holidays and have everyone comfortable. Other than those two categories I have scaled my stuff down to a level where my home is inviting and cozy but there is no clutter. I'm also reading "The Mountain Is You" and working on improving myself.

      I’m a writer, and so books are very important to me. For me, I kind of created a system with this where I *do* buy the book, read it, and then decide which “pile”it goes into… books that I adore, the best of the best… I keep those. I also keep signed books, or otherwise rarer prints. I generally donate everything else.
      That way, I support the writer, I read the books, my kids see me reading a lot, and they get accustomed to the idea of donations, generosity, giving…
      And then of course other people benefit by having books available for free or cheaper, and I get to keep my best shelf candy.

    • @gwenellison5386
      @gwenellison5386 Місяць тому +2

      @@Johnny5477 I like this. I decluttered most of my books when I was trying to go minimal so what I have left is what I love. But recently I've been buying like it's my job. I only keep what I like and let go of what I know I will never read again, but I don't know that I want a minimal collection. That said I won't keep books just to have more books on a shelf.
      I live in an area with a generous amount of Little Free Libraries nearby so when I have books to give away I drive around and fill the little cabinets. =)

    "Quiet Wealth" has so many advantages. In addition to shifting the focus away from unnecessary status symbols, hollow materialism and wasteful opulence, it offers some security from envy, jealousy, retribution and frivolous lawsuits.

    I started my minimalism journey when the kids moved out. I’ve moved into a smaller home, donated, and gotten rid of lots of stuff. The only issue is my husband and his stuff, however, he’s been saying we have too much stuff 😂I think if he starts decluttering he’ll realize it’s mostly his stuff but I’ll let him come to his own conclusion😊

    • @SharieDeBord
      @SharieDeBord Місяць тому +3

      I am in a very similar situation! My kids are still young and at home but my husband is anti-minimalism... he loves his stuff. Sometimes it's hard to deal with but we have to remember that not everyone sees the value in minimalism the way we do and that's OK. We're all in different seasons of life. However I do hope that by me living minimalist, my husband will see the tangible benefits and eventually give it a try himself. Baby steps!

    I absolutely love what you talked about with riding the cycles of self improvement, without guilt. That's how I've always operated, becoming almost obsessive with improving a certain aspect, then fizzling out after a few days or weeks... but always with guilt at "failing" to meet my high expectations, or losing interest. I'm implementing this today!!

    Popping in here to say that I have been on and off binge watching your videos and appreciate the journey of thought and tips you provide. I’ve always wondered how minimalist, productivity gurus, etc have managers to live their “perfect” lives with partners, kids, pets, etc. So this video was a nice acknowledgement that the growth we see on the internet might reduce our freedom and that we don’t grow linearly, we iterate and make improvements each round

    Octopuses have three hearts, but only two of them pump blood to the gills. The third heart, which pumps blood to the rest of the body, actually stops beating when the octopus swims. This is one reason why octopuses prefer crawling to swimming-it’s less taxing on their circulatory system.

    Became a minimalist in high school because...... I noticed (by God's grace) people who are in abusive relationships stay because they're love bombed. If you aren't in love with the things of this world you can't be controlled nor confused by it as easily. I understand why God says to not love the things of this world now. huh

      In the US, you will be persecuted and scapegoated if you are a minimalist and not consuming materialism and media. Sometimes you will be looked down upon and will be difficult to make friends and be respected by people. That is one downside of being a minimalist and not consuming things. Family will soon look down upon you for being cheap. Hence, why in the US it is difficult to be a minimalist. Women are easily prone to be deceived you are correct, but if you are a minimalist man it is difficult to find relationships or find a woman who likes this lifestyle and perspective.

      @@jacqueslee2592 Well praise God, shallow people show their true colors quickly and I can avoid them, and true ones treat me with respect despite not knowing how much I'm worth-shallow relationships never last. I have immediate relatives that looked down on me for years (blessing in disguise because I saw their true colors) because I'm not obsessed with materialism nor do I brag, but I give glory to God for the fruit of meekness and self-control He gave me to be humble. But once they realize you're wealthy (lol I'm waiting on God for the big reveal because it's His glory not mine for when they see my true worth/net worth so I have keep it lowkey 🙋🏽‍♀) that's when you're their "favorite daughter" or "favorite sister".

I like living small and I like owning less by choice in the majority of areas in my life. IF my situation ever changed and I became 10k richer or a bloody millionaire, the only different would be that I'd like to drive a car I owned and had a cleaner and maybe go to a very expensive gym and a gardener if I even wanted a garden, on a weekly basis and I wouldn't stress over takeaway coffee or ordering takeaways in general.
      But the amount of stuff I own and the size of the home regardless of how nice they are now or not would not change.
