Aside from a few rust repairs it actually looks pretty good. It's nice to see one start up right on the high idle like it should and then come back down after it warms up a little.

HS classmate of mine built a driver dune buggy at just 16-17 years of age. He could fix VWs in his sleep. Once got up to the chalkboard and explained the air-cooled engine - in German (he was Armenian). GM hired him right out of M.I.T. to design Cadillacs. Unfortunately, he was killed in an auto accident about 9 years ago. Sarkis had a great sense of humor, and had to be the smartest guy I've ever known. I think of him every time I see a VW video.

My folks got rid of their last Bug and Bus right before I got my driver's license. I only got to drive a couple of Rabbits. I now have a 2017 Beetle and love it, but SOMEDAY, I will own a real Beetle. Your channel makes me so happy. My dad was a mechanic at a VW garage before I was born and a weekend mechanic throughout his life. He always smelled like oil, gas and grease. Intoxicating smells to this day. Thanks for all of the great content.

I dunno what bugs are worth any more. Back when I was buying and selling and trading they were worth about $600. Definitely under a thousand. I had a '67 with a great motor. It was peppy, handled well. Kind of a poor man's Porsche, hehe. It was fun, but I decided it was too new. I wanted something more classic. Found a local guy selling a 1961 ragtop. There with him was his new oval sedan. He didn't want both, so I took the '61 off his hands. This was back in the mid 1980s. 1967 was an odd ball transition year for the bug. Parts like door handles were one year only. The front fenders were changed from the sleek Porsche style headlamps to those round, flat looking ones. I doubt I will ever own another bug, but if I did it would have to be a ragtop. Nothing like cruising around on a nice day with that fabric top rolled back. Really fun!😄

The history and provenance add a bunch of value. The rust detracts a ton of value. None of that is an easy fix. Location is everything with this car. Here in the Northwest, it might be worth 30% to 50% less than what you paid, simply because there are more clean cars available. But it seems you did just fine with this one.
#3 exhaust valve was tight? They always seem to be that way. As you know, keep a close eye on that one. If it keeps getting tight with each check up, that valve is stretching due to heat cycling, and getting ready to break off.

Really cool that you were able to connect with the original owner! Is it an original black car with red interior? Which dealership did she purchase it from? Pretty cool!

$3,900 was a bit steep but all in all a great score. The belt looked too tight? Usually you see a little warble when running. Couldn't tell on camera. Looking forward to how this one comes out.

A little trick I learned about looking at rust buckets and I am in the rot box state believe me but anyway get yourself a cheap selfie stick that extends clamp your phone in it video on light on and get a piece of cardboard to lay on and scan the undercarriage of the car slowly get in your vehicle and review the video. Pictures tell the story and video as well. You know I never paid more that 400 bucks for a bug. But anyway do the undercarriage scan with the selfie stick trick.
