Lance, I’m not a religious person in anyway, I love your genuine kindness, your respectful ways, and your good nature. Your videos are so well done, entertaining and full of heartfelt stories, love your interest in the unusual. Hopefully we will get to see lots more of the Thing.
For what you bought those vw’s for,a person could and would take a huge interest in those cars. That was absolutely awesome of you to give the old boy more than he asked for the vw’s.you’re definitely a class act and a very good person
This is my kind of show handy guys who are not afraid to get their hands dirty. Interesting old cars. Who does not love vw. Had a 64 i. I drove it all night thru the terrible 43 inch Chicago storm of 1967. Only other car I saw moving that night was another bug that passed me.
Just imagine the good condition that the VW's were in when they were 'dumped' there 40 years ago. I bought a '71 from a Car Scrapyard as a burnt-out wreck (Engine Fire). I spent a year and $14K to bring it "back from the dead". That was 15 years ago. Beetles (the most iconic vehicle on earth) grow on you. Today, my Beetle is part of the family. Looks brand new - and has been kept original - other than the Wedgewood Blue and Gray Leather Seats. Many of your viewers are like me, a lifelong love affair with a car? Sounds ridiculous but true. You guys do a great job. If you feel that these pair of Beetles are beyond Economic Repair, pass them on...... There are many people out there that love the challenge to restore, and turn that rust - into gold!! Greetings from Australia.
Great rescue, well done guys. All the best from a VW Beetle enthusiast in Australia. Talking of which I saw a superb black 'oval window' Beetle parked outside a house today - stunning condition it was.
Never seen a Christian make videos on restoring cars & such. This video was so peaceful & also had so much energy in it. I guess righteousness, peace & joy in the Holy Spirit. That's the kingdom of God. So true. I'm from India & I've heard a lot about the southern Bible belt. I think you guys are amazing. Like the nice gentleman said - stay blessed. GB
You made my day Lance. This is better than any day at Disney World. I always hit like even before I watch, because you can’t go wrong with rusty relics! Thanks for something to help get my day off to a great start. 👍☮️
It’s really neat to see you and your Dad keeping your sense of humor, looks like it was a tough couple of days. I agree it was a great find, my Brother has a Thing and loves it, thanks for digging them out and giving them a shot at life, great video !
I just discovered this youtube channel today. I've already watched 3 videos. Its raw, real & not over produced. I love what you guys are doing with these vehicles. I wish I was capable of doing this sort of thing. I'd love to repair & save old cars, but I just don't know enough about it. In fact I know nothing about mechanics or car value (except I know all those VW's are worth way more than $750). But these kind of videos make me want to go to mechanic school even though I'm in my 40's. Oh yeah it was pretty cool that you gave the guy an extra $250 cause he obviously had no idea what those VW's can be worth.
Tery you're absilutely have the right to say that. I am in62 and I've said that before..really if you can go to a mechanical shop, don't be late..it just one year or less then you can do your soecial shop to practise your hoppy since you still in 42years old.
With the Beetles it's a case of welding in support braces for the body to keep its shape, unbolting what is left of the body and separating the body from the floor. Two new floor pans and two heater channels replaced in th body. Floors are easy to do and the cars appear to be solid. Well worth the bargain $750. I've restored many beetles and buses in my younger years. Great find!
This metal safari of old cars, is a bigger one, I find it very interesting, I have two old Beetles. open.spotify.com/album/4iabAXoWdR9dy622RGCZpK?si=VyETeizWSZyHLXAC3QPuDA

Those bugs are hashed-out parts cars at best. The Thing is another story. Lots of potential there. What I like best about you, Lance and Wyatt, is how y'all treat people and their property with courtesy and respect. This country could use a lot more people like you.
Walter Zoomie ...couldn’t have been better said! These are honest people doing admirable projects. No glitz or glam needed to make it enjoyable to watch.
Back in the days my husband had volkys, and I had a red and white maverick, I'm talking about when we were in our 20s. Now we're on our 60s, and it makes me sad to see how he misses his volky, I sure wish I could have given him one as a gift to keep him going,, but I can't afford it. We love your channel very much, keep uo your great work!
Nice find! All the bits you need including floor pans and sections are available and not as expensive as youd think. My old 1300 67 Beetle (Named DakDak coz thats the sound she made) was close to as bad as the floorless wonder and after a pressure wash and molasses bath n disassembly she stick welded right up as good as new.
Hello guys, I am from Austria an i love to watch our channel. You found a VW in German is called "Kübelwagen", it's very popular but very rare in europe.
The 'Thing' is not a kublewagen, similar but came out years later as a vehicle for the modern German Whermacht in the 70's. The kublewagen type 82 used a beetle platform, however, the Thing type 181 used the wider Karman Ghia floor pan.
Shorten the chain A LOT Pulling the short chain with your truck will take weight off the front end of the thing by lifting it as you pull and keep it right behind the truck You won’t hurt your backs Is that an AC unit on the thing Mine doesn’t have anything like that not even the heater looks like that
Its good of you to treat that man fare on the cars you could tell they needed the money your good person just wanted to say thank you for being a fare man not many like that any more refreshing to see god bless you man truly mean it
Glad to see you guys saving those old VWs. I have a 61 rag top sunroof in my backyard, plan to restore it one day. All yours needs is every panel replaced, swap the transaxle with a 67 type 3 with the long axle tubes and wide drum brakes, convert it to 12v, build a nice 2200cc or bigger engine and redo the interior and soft top and you'll have a nice little car with no A/C. It's easier to pull it from the front on the old bugs, the front axle isn't way up under there like the rear axle.
I've been a mechanic for old cars all my life it's been hard trying to find a job at the restoring cars and making dried cars and mechanic shops all my life I'll help you out and give you hands out I love working on old cars
Love VWs. You guys sure had your workout moving those vehicles side to side. The bugs floor pans are not the hardest things to replace. You’re going to have some fun restoring them! You’re also going to enjoy driving them.
The VW thing was my all time favorite car when I was back in high shcool. A friend of mine had a bright orange one. Lance mentions that it has a military look to it. It was actually called the Volkswagen 181. The concept for the 181 came from the Type 82 Kübelwagen (an abbreviation of the German “Kübelsitzwagen,” meaning “bucket-seat car) and the also Type 166 Schwimmwagen (literally meaning swimming car or amphibious car), a German military vehicle used during World War II. The Type 181 was also sold to the public, as the Kurierwagen (“courier car”) in West Germany, the Trekker (RHD Type 182) in the United Kingdom, the Thing in the United States (1973-74), the Safari in Mexico and South America, and Pescaccia in Italy. I build custom Hot Wheels size cars and dioramas, I'm going to do one of this VW Thing and the other bugs. Thank you for sharing. Take care and God bless. JESUS JESUS JESUS Till the Day I Die. Amen Brother.
my Dad has a 1976 VW beetle,he plans on getting a couple more like this guys dad did. Btw so sorry for this guys loss those vw bugs will have so many stories of his father and that car and will leave good memories.
I love those VWs! What a great stash of cars. Pretty rough and rusty but some good soul there! I found myself in a warehouse with 160 of the little buggers earlier this year! That sunroof model sure has awesome patina ... I’d leave the finish alone and just make it run!! 👍
I owned a 65 model VW...and a 74. My baby brother owned one as old. We floated 2 major holes down to a swampy fishing hole one night. Yep...they floated!
It's nearly therapeutic listening to you guys chew the fat. I grew up in the midwest but moved to a 'big city' (Phoenix) after high school. I miss the mannerisms, drawl, and uh, natural goodness of rural America. You know, where smiles and waves are taken at face value.
My wonderful Dad bought me a brand new '62 VW Beetle in 1962 in Greenville Mississippi. He wrote a check for the total $1,829.00. It was a wonderful little car. He was a prince among men and a true gentleman. His generation astounds me to this day for their generosity and intelligence.
Nice to see someone honest enough to give more than the asking price even though he could have gotten them for five hundred because he was desperate to clean the place up. Anyone who knows cars knows that even $1000 is a great deal. I like seeing these old vehicles being saved from rotting away or being crushed.
Mustie1 and Volkswear would vote these cars Cool to see the Jetta run, Jetta engine in the Thing The 2 cars under the trees and the Thing I think are worth the most and the best to try and fix.
They agreed on $750. But I believe he said "there's a little extra, there's $1000". The effort it took to remove these cars and the willingness of the gentleman to sell to them, seems like a good deal for both parties.👌
Great Video! I know when I was a young soldier, we had this Volkswagen Jagdwagen offroad car in the Austrian Army. We used them from the seventies to the late eighties. The last we used was on a UN🇺🇳 Mission on Cyprus island 1990. Greetings from Linz/Austria🇦🇹 🏔⛷🍺🥨😎👍🐺Europe!
"Fred Flinstone-mobile"....I had to LOL on that one. I'm gonna say that one is definitely scrap metal. You and your dad work very well together. Reminds me of me and my dad working on projects together. We can read each other and it makes things go smoothly without too much conversation. :-)
Wow, you and your dad go through a lot of sweat trying to get those VW's out. I admire your desire and will to get them out and restoring what you can.
God bless you and your crew - interested in the story and the car - not just about grabbing the cars and running- very honest down to earth people- cheers from Tasmania
Didn't think you would be driving away with all those bugs! Look forward to seeing how they come out. The Thing is called a Trekker over here in Europe by the looks of it
" Yall stay blessed" what i love about being a southerner and being a american. The young man showed nothing but respect for someone older than him. SIR, and MAM, still used down here. God bless the CSA , clean up the south buy a yankee a bus ticket.
The fact that you're still concerned with "Yankee" and "Rebel" bullshit is what is still wrong the thinking in the South. I spent one year of college in South Carolina. The "War of Northern Aggression" is still being discussed and whined about. Yankees don't need bus tickets, we have jobs and our own cars.
51:11 let this part be a lesson to people. DO NOT sit there and hold onto a chain while a loader is pulling on it. That thing snaps and your whole arm is going to be minced meat. That is just plum stupid.
You guys are awesome! You are heroes by saving the best car in the world of History! You are part of the History and making Histories of this Volkswagen for the next generations! Congratulations! Excellent Job! I can't wait to see those cars restored!
The 60 and 65 Beetles are salvageable. There are many ways to go with restoring them. I would find rolling chassis that have been already refurbished. Then stick the bodies on top of them. The Samba has a couple chassis for sale right now. The 60 is definitely worth saving as well as the 65!! I have a 60 that I saved that sat in a barn for 55 years and I drive it everywhere now. Cool video guys! Love the fact that ya'll love Jesus!! Keep it up!
You can use sheet metal for making flooring for the old beetles. I think you made a super deal. Just be patient and make it happen a little bit at a time. You can get them together just don't give up.
Hard work and dedication, you guys are amazing , all that hard work and you guys keep so calm, real professionals, love them VWs,thanks for share, looking for the next video, 💯👍
I subscribed just to see the VW Thing. Havent seen one since the early eighties. My father-in-law had a Maverick like the one here that he bought when he got home from the service (Vietnam) too. Love to Dads and their cars.
What an ASSUME trailer!! That's what I call the perfect hauling trailer for what You Guy's do. Hint, ever try using a snatch block in pulling out some of You tougher jobs.
Oldskoolonly Garage ...I felt the same. Nice gesture to round it up from $750 to $1000. Says something about character of these blokes! Regards from Texas!
Lance and Wyatt, ,We really enjoy your website. Saving those old vehicles and getting them running again is a work of art! Hopefully the lawsuit will be in the past! Hang in there guys! Larry and Allan Orofino, Idaho.
I have a suggestion for you. To make loading those kind of dug in cars easy in the future just roll up with an forklift with 12' or even a longer fork that can lift like 5 tons. Pick them up and load them on. Saves you a bunch of time.
this is really cool. it was painful tho, the fiasco with the trailer was avoidable. But You had the strap on the wrong side too. the left side would have pulled away from the tree (once you solved the other mess) so awesome to see this happen.
I remember those old VW's from when I was young,! All us youngsters wanted one! They were fun to zip around in and they ran forever!!! Back when gas was cheap we could put $5 gas in one and run all week!!
My admiration to the buyer, anyone else (including me) would have tried a lower price than $750, yet he paid $1000. Good man, bless his heart, dear God. RIP to the old man who's not here to see the cars go.
Hmm. Got a big vw collection here in Florida. They have all been sitting for a while. We call it rick land. The guy who owned the vws lived on our property. Good friend of my Dads. He passed away and left all his vw's to him and they have just been sitting. 5 bugs maybe more, probably 7 buses, a single cab bus, and a 53 Zwitter split bug... Along with tons of parts and just stuff that is super cool. Surely you would be interested.
Nice start to the Maverick. I am partial to those. Had a 1973 Grabber in high school and now have a 1970. If he don't do anything with it hit me up. I could use that rearend.
Me too! I had a 1970 (with column shifter) in 1977, and bought a '73 when some jerks stole my '70 Maverick. Dang reliable car. Got me all the way from Chicago to SF before I found out that I had only 1 bolt holding on the carb, LOL! Miss that car!
I just finished body repair on my bug and am in the process of running the wiring and replacing all the rubber and interior. Looks like that '60? you got has severally rotted heater channels also. That's basically a structural rocker and it's pretty common that they rust out unfortunately. It's a big job. I love VWs, but this one will have to find someone with LOTS of free time to fix it all up I think. Don't feel bad if it continues to just be a yard ornament. The deck lid might be worth some money for someone that needs one.
@@eiserntorsphantomoftheoper2154 How many bugs have YOU saved mate? Bug rust very slowly. Who ever shoved those cars into the scrub is a long sighted man. So whose the idiot here Man Who Talks instead of Thinking.
@@shaenj Oh, I see now. It was "long sighted" to see how "long" it takes to completely lose "sight" of the floorboards, because "bugs rust slowly". I didn't state he was an idiot. I stated he was a fool. An idiot doesn't have the intellectual ability to make wise choices. A fool does, but lacks the motivation to choose correctly. My comment stands
All the hard work you ask your dad to do it!. We still have number of VW beetles running on roads with good condition, my uncle had one too. It was real fun to drive. Very steady and good road grip
Paid too much already I had 3 vw beetles and only bad experience on all 3 ,2 caught alight and the other seized no more vw for me only memories I've got is terrible

@24 mins, shoulda checked under the visor for the keys
I definitely enjoy this customer's gravelly, coarse but genuinely calming Country-Western accented
voice.😌🗣️🇺🇲
Mustie1 is the guy to talk to about VW's someone mentioned in the live chat also.Mustie knows his VW's
Yes sir he would be in heaven with all those parts and bugs
Mark Volkswear is in to VW’s Eean more then Mustie1
@@thomassmith6027 no he has a plymoth convertible thing he drives from time to time
He is great, but FAR from a VW guru. Head over to TheSamba.com. Plenty of guys with 50+ years of VW knowledge there.
Hed go crazy whith the thing
"Fred Flinstone-mobile"....I had to LOL on that one. I'm gonna say that one is definitely scrap metal.
You and your dad work very well together. Reminds me of me and my dad working on projects together. We can read each other and it makes things go smoothly without too much conversation. :-)
Guys! New subscriber today. It's so refreshing to see a video by "car guys" where every 3rd word isn't a curse word. Thanks so much!
$750.00 for all those VW's plus the motor, and including the Thing. That has to be the best buy I have ever seen. WoW
@Cross Hatch $750 was the asking price. He knew that was a real bargain and ended up giving $1000.Check it out about 17 minutes in.
Honestly i was waiting on that second beetle to just rip right in half. Cool deal.

I all ready bougth a vw 65 too, needs work to put on, but was like love at first sight, great show. Grettings from Mex.

Thank you fpr saving these gems and giving them another chance in life! VWs rule!!!
Keep it up!
I like that you and your dad can get along and work together.
You can use sheet metal for making flooring for the old beetles. I think you made a super deal. Just be patient and make it happen a little bit at a time. You can get them together just don't give up.
Turnin Rust is a class operation.
Gave the man his money plus.
Straight up.....
Blessings.
its a joy to watch brings back memories of exploring scrap yards
Hard work and dedication, you guys are amazing , all that hard work and you guys keep so calm, real professionals, love them VWs,thanks for share, looking for the next video, 💯👍
Know a guy that found a 49 split window in the boondocks, not much more than a shell, about 4 yrs & hrs & hrs of work later that little VW was a gem
Love that you paid him a little extra, even at $1,000, still a great deal. God Bless.
I subscribed just to see the VW Thing. Havent seen one since the early eighties. My father-in-law had a Maverick like the one here that he bought when he got home from the service (Vietnam) too. Love to Dads and their cars.
Great video. I like the topics, the pace and the music. Great videography including editing. Looking forward to the next chapter.
What an ASSUME trailer!! That's what I call the perfect hauling trailer for what You Guy's do. Hint, ever try using a snatch block in pulling out some of You tougher jobs.
Replacing floor pans is probably the easiest job for a bug restoration
You did that ole boy right giving him a thousand for all those bugs. I like those old VW’s too, and hope ya can get some of them back on the road.
Great score man, especially with the thing!! And good on ya for giving them old boys a little extra. Lots of respect. Aussie fan 👍🏻
WINNER! WINNER! CHICKEN DINNER! PRAYER'S TO Y'ALL FOR HELPING RESTORE CLASSIC'S & CLOSURE TO THE FAMILY! LOVE & GOD BLESS AMERICA! UNCLE JEFF!
I have a suggestion for you. To make loading those kind of dug in cars easy in the future just roll up with an forklift with 12' or even a longer fork that can lift like 5 tons. Pick them up and load them on. Saves you a bunch of time.
Awesome video would love to see a video of some of those bugs restored.
this is really cool. it was painful tho, the fiasco with the trailer was avoidable. But You had the strap on the wrong side too. the left side would have pulled away from the tree (once you solved the other mess) so awesome to see this happen.
Great job on this episode, it must have been a lot of work, thanks!
I remember those old VW's from when I was young,! All us youngsters wanted one! They were fun to zip around in and they ran forever!!! Back when gas was cheap we could put $5 gas in one and run all week!!
It is refreshing to watch a video without hearing a lot of cussing. Enjoyed you all very much!
IVE BEEN A RECOVERY DRIVER FOR OVER 20 YEARS .. BOY YOU GUYS MADE HARD WORK OUT OF LOADING THOSE CARS
My admiration to the buyer, anyone else (including me) would have tried a lower price than $750, yet he paid $1000. Good man, bless his heart, dear God. RIP to the old man who's not here to see the cars go.
Had a ‘63 VW in Ft. Worth...had to short starter solenoid with the tire tool while I laid on the ground. Really impressed my dates.
Get with Mustie1 about floor pans. He is a VW expert and a career mechanic.
and he would get those motors running
Mustie can get anything running, first person I thought of when I seen this,5150 would love these to
I thought about the same thing. That Yankee has started more VW motors on the side of the shop table than most people have started in cars. ;-)
I also had a 1973 Maverick Grabber in high school
I just finished body repair on my bug and am in the process of running the wiring and replacing all the rubber and interior. Looks like that '60? you got has severally rotted heater channels also. That's basically a structural rocker and it's pretty common that they rust out unfortunately. It's a big job. I love VWs, but this one will have to find someone with LOTS of free time to fix it all up I think. Don't feel bad if it continues to just be a yard ornament. The deck lid might be worth some money for someone that needs one.
The tree trimmer's are gonna charge more than they paid for the VW's !
Dreaming to Go Texas some day in my life. Lot of respect for Texan people and what you did for the Country. Hi From Brazil and Lots of Repect !
Anything you find sittin on grass for 40 years will for sure be rusted out underneath.
nothing good can come from storing cars on the lawn.
Only a fool leaves his car collection out in the rain. Idiots
@@eiserntorsphantomoftheoper2154 The rain doesn't do 1 /10th the damage that grass does.
@@beverwyck1 True, water alone wouldn't do much.
@@eiserntorsphantomoftheoper2154 How many bugs have YOU saved mate? Bug rust very slowly. Who ever shoved those cars into the scrub is a long sighted man. So whose the idiot here Man Who Talks instead of Thinking.
@@shaenj
Oh, I see now.
$750 for all the VW's, that is a good deal. The Thing parts alone will go for that easy.
Paid too much already I had 3 vw beetles and only bad experience on all 3 ,2 caught alight and the other seized no more vw for me only memories I've got is terrible
Nice of the tree service guys to give you a hand. Good folks there too. Another great video.
