    • @themaggattack

@@peeedX1 Dates and nuts are packed full of nutrients. In no way comparable to a snickers bar. We're talking dietary fiber, protein, vitamin B-6, iron, magnesium, potassium... Sure, there are fats, but good fats, not bad fats. Sure there is sugar, but natural sugars vs. processed sugars. As an occasional treat, dates and nuts are *very* helpful for those of us with a sweet tooth. A MUCH better option than a damn snickers bar.

It’s Nov 9, 2019. Just sent this to my 86 yr old diabetic mom who’s notorious for not eating til very late in day if that. Depends on 1/2 a banana & toast in morning. I’d really like to see her eat these snack/meals.
Thnx for your great content. Love you & Crystal too.
I fed my kids & I still eat apple w/pb or almond butter & cinnamon-yum. Also ants on a log were & are a big favorite. Love your info on bread & fruit which I think will be really helpful to my mom who is afraid to eat thanks to the typical misinfo spread by registered dietitians abt diabetic diets. Hope this helps her. I’m going grocery shopping for her tmrw so hopefully she’ll let me buy some of these delicious foods.
Keep up the great content Derek (and Crystal). I’m way over on other side of N Amer in US & am having a blast binge-watching your vlogs.✌🏼🤗

The only thing I would say to help everyone is that with the first two snacks they pair a watery food with an oily/fatty food so that isn't always the best for digestion. Dr. Michael Greger has a great series of videos explaining why fruit are a wholesome part of a nutritious diet and how they not only do not cause sugar spikes, but can even sometimes PREVENT spikes from happening when combined with simple carbs or refined sugar. Now, I recommend staying away from refined foods as much as possible, but if you must, grab a handful of berries as dessert (or with dessert) to keep your blood sugar levels relatively stable.
Other comment: for those who don't know yet, when eating fruit or vegetables with the peel, try to purchase organic to avoid toxic pesticides.

The only item I would add to this video is being mindful of which fruits you combine together. Of the four fruit groups (acid, sub acid, sweet, and melons), fruits within the same category combine the best for ideal digestion. You can combine some groups together such as sub acid with acid and sub acid with sweet is fine, but acid and sweet is not a good combo and may ferment in your gut. The only exception is melons which should not be combined with any other group.

I eat the whole apple the only thing I throw away is the stem. I eat only the organic apples so that I can enjoy the skins. lol.

What about low carb bread? In my store they have a good fiber/carb ratio but the ingredients are not the best. Which is better, less processed and also less fiber or more processed but more fiber?

Great video and snack ideas.. I’ve alway done the apples with peanut butter but I never thought about adding a sprinkle of cinnamon. A must try
