Raven Spring Report 2021

- It's May 12th, 2021, here's a quick report on one of the families at Crystal Cove. I saw a first and that was dad dug for, chased down and killed a small crab but he didn't eat it. First time I've seen a kill and then no interest to eat. Then all of a sudden dad takes off, and runs down a young squirrel. I included the scene where dad has the young squirrel on his entire face, and then later feeds it to the family. I don't show the actual kill scene but if you're squeamish about such things you may want to pass.

Very few birds can compete with Ravens in flight! I’ve watched them do barrel rolls, dives, and even fly upside down! Very goofy and fun loving birds! There’s construction going in my area and the Ravens like to fly through, doing doves and barrel rolls while the crew works and sometimes even walk around wait for the excavators come right up to them before flying away. Excited for when you post again!
Just about the most wonderfully graceful birds when they are flying, and maybe the smartest and funniest birds when they are goose stepping about on the ground. This is amazing how much they trust you ♥️♥️
20 years of working with dad!
So cool. We started feeding crows peanuts on our walks and the ravens started showing up. We're loving that.
a couple of years back I was living in the Sierra Nevada foothills north of Fresno. There is a 700 acre private wilderness area in the middle of a large development with a large hill as the dominant feature. The Ravens ruled the hill but gave the local Redtails their due respect. The elder pair of Ravens would often accompany me on my hikes and sit near me when I'd take a break (like old folks sharing a bench at a park). They'd nap, preen each other and sometimes we'd have conversations. The younger generations weren't so friendly, but the elders... they would always show up,. They are truly wonderful, intelligent creatures and their flying skills are off the chart. Sometimes it seemed they would even have flying competitions (at least that was my thought) w/ the Redtails. Thanks for the vids!
Our experiences with the adults is much the same, and with the young learning to fly the relationships are even more involved, but that changes as soon as the "kids' get kicked out by the adults , they then seem to go into a typical teenager mode and with rare exceptions, have little to do with me. Thanks for sharing the stories!
This is so cool. I have some magpies that have been training me up as their Human, all last year.
To begin with, they would crash and bash into the window ledge, where I left scraps of bacon and chicken. Now, they land gracefully, tap on the window, asking for food, cocking and tilting their heads.
I swear they wait until I am eating, so that they can share a meal with me.
I love them! It's one of the best things about 2020 lockdown is my growing relationship with my magpie friends. 🖐️🌼
Great story thanks for sharing! My limited dealings with wild magpies leads me to believe they live and interact more like my ravens (couples in a specific area) than my gang banger crows. Key word being limited!
The lock down made many realise to love themselves and be with the animals. I went within and found God and animals. A miracle happened ✨️ I saw the light which set me free . I was truly blessed
I walked in pain upon these streets
Drinking booze and eating sweets
The sweets I put within my veins
Heroin was my sweet Insane
I had given up upon my life
For all I had was miserable strife
One day an hour past the night
LO and BEHOLD I saw the light
The light I saw lifted me free
From pain and drugs for eternity
I knew there and then I AM THAT I AM
Because in forgetfulness I forgot my plan
God gave me sweet remembrance
Since that day I always dance
I dance in the stillness of the Ball
I sing silently a Hymn to The All
I share my light with everyone
And happiness and joy I have become
I pray that we All see the Glow
That I once saw LO and BEHOLD
Now my purpose I can fulfill
Of my names sake I do God's will
Sam means messenger of The All
He showed me the light To answer his call
Now I AM walking upon the Path
I AM filled with joy and often laugh
My Heart is Laughing all the time
For All of God's love is sweet sublime
Some say this Light was Beloved Michael ✨️ 💕
Perhaps it was
Perhaps it was my Very own Beloved Christself ♾️🌞♾️💜♾️🕯
I Love Your Channel. I Fed A Large Family Of Ravens For 3 Years. One Day I Went To The Feeding Tree And At The Bottom Was A Raven SKULL. They Had Brought It For Me. There Is A Planet Called AVOS Where The Large Avians Live. But Once In A While You, ll Hear A Story Of Someone Meeting One On Our Planet. Another Race Of ET,s Evolved In 12-D, Though They Have The Ability To Communicate With 3D Conscious Souls. Of Course Thats Rare And Few Would Even Share Such A Storie. Thanks Again For A Wonderful Collection Of Videos On My Family The Ravens. PEACE...........
I forgot I had subscribed to you! It's so nice to see your video in my sub box🥰 they are beautiful birds!
I just found your channel. I really enjoy your videos. I hope you'll do a raven report for 2022. Best wishes to you
Just discovered your channel! I have a huge love for animals who aren’t appreciated that much like corvids! During my days off during summer, I plan to start doing some birdwatching, neat content!
Today after Sunday mass in the city of Arcadia which is north east of Los Angeles I saw ravens & crows fighting over territory. The crow where escorting the ravens out of the area & a crow was dive bombing a raven perched on a pole. One thing after observing your videos I learned a bunch, I used to think they where the same thing, & 7 years later after have watched your video I’ve noticed Ravens fly far more graceful, which they’d wave their wings more elegantly while crows flap flap flap their wings more awkwardly, I’ve also noticed crows don’t soar like ravens do
Hello Paul, nice to hear from you, thanks for sharing! (I graduated Temple City High, and had cousins in Arcadia!)
There is some fantastic footage in this video. Just awesome. I'm so jealous of you for getting to interact with so many Ravens.
I sometimes wish I was a raven, such great and precious creatures, so mysterious but kind.
I can't wait to come see this for myself in person one day!!
Yeah well guess who can't wait either? : )
Same here! A wonderful video, taking us with them through a time frame. Such milestones!
Just in case you haven't seen it, one day, if you choose to take the time (an hour and twenty minutes, like WAY too long for a You Tube audience) I did a full year with the birds just at Crystal Cove. You can find it here;

Please continue to share these wonderful videos, I could watch them all day!
Nice little movie. Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Well filmed.
I wish you a pleasant week.
Best regards, Knut.
Love the Ravens. Hope you do more videos!
Such a fun video to watch!!! Made me so jealous! Your sound effects are on point!!😜
great videos and from my old stomping grounds even! scotchmans cove! up in the local mountains now and turns out I've been feeding them....or should I say they've been the recipients of my donations. pretty sure they got all 2 dozen gophers and 9 mice left out. all trapped, no poison. they are patrolling the area all the time now and put on aerial shows as well in the winds that come straight up the canyon below hwy 18.

Lovely birds so majestic and thanks to odin for our great creations skall
They really are incredible birds.
With wind like that, it takes a heavy tripod to stand still.
Hello Andy, I use a tripod but in an unconventional way. If you go to the LA Times story you'll see how I pan with the tripod on my should. It's about the 45 to 47 second mark and then again around 1 : 25 ish?
Here's the link;

How cool is that!?!
Thank you Rick for the new kids in town. Eve
And thank you for the song and sharing you're story!
I have a question about the Common Raven vision. De they have binocular or monocular vision? And what's their visual acuity?
as far as i know, they can easily see and remember faces, I'm sure they have excellent vision
absolutely stunning.
I wish I could fly like that, come to think of it, I wish I could even fly! Perhaps if I build Raven wings for myself hmmm!!
You'd take Herbie up for a ride wouldn't you ? : )
@@dm3917 Absolutely!!!!!
Beautiful
Crows are smart birds. Ravens are very smart, much larger and like to play.
A few years ago I took a video of me saving a juvenile crow that was not able to fly yet that was hanging out by a really busy street. I moved him away from the road but not after having a moment or two with him on my shoulder. My favorite birds by far. I kind of hope he recognizes me and remembers . . .
Just wanted to let you know, my Pet Raven, Fate, loves watching your channel. It's generally this or Looney Tunes. It is her favorite. I have one request though. Could you do an entire video on just Raven calls? I don't think I've seen one dedicated to just that. She loves to watch, but what she really enjoys is hearing the various calls other Ravens make. Hugiin, who I had for 13 years passed last year. I managed through what could only be described as fate, to get a baby this year. I was planning on getting two. Hopefully my main breeder will have some babies this next year, as this year his 3 pair only gave duds due to a Rooster screwing with them ONLY when they tried mating. I want to have a pair, so that when I at work they have company. As it is, Fate is already insanely bonded to me. We do watch you channel together when I can.
I love we're in the company of Looney Tunes! Thanks for sharing your story about "Fate" sounds like your off on another amazing adventure. You are of course welcome to come back and share stories anytime. As far as a sounds only video, give me a little time and let's see what i can come up with. Thanks for participating!
I'm rearing a fledgeling Raven.
Talked with the game and fish trying to get a permit.
Well they basically gave me a hard no. However, after I told them the bird was not ever caged had freedom 24/7 they relented. I'm way out on a ranch and this is a Chihuahuan sub species. They don't migrate here in AZ.
The law shouldn't even apply. This bird is saving my soul from damnation. There are two omens with Ravens Good Fortune or Bad. I have been blessed with the good.
Have fun with tit, come back and share how your relationship develops over time!
@@theravendiaries He is awesome. He is trying hard to learn hello. Some of the daily events are being uploaded to you tube. He just fit seamlessly into my household. The thing I am puzzled about is the parents and his siblings come every day. He doesn't want to engage with them at all . I find that odd. Any clues?
I also have a 7month old raven in AZ. She has never been caged . She Flys with other ravens close to her age, I don't know where she sleeps at night, but she's on my porch every morning and will stay as long as I will play. Most of the time she will come when I call her, she eats 3 or 4 times a day. She eats from my hand, fills her gullet then hides it near by then comes back for more. I've noticed other ravens robbing her stashes and a few times attacking her to take food from her mouth. I think this is how she has found a social status nich with other ravens. I'm moving 30 miles away in a couple of months. I don't know if or how to take her to my new home, any suggestions? She has never been in a cage or restricted, I pick her up and kiss her head often so it won't be a problem to catch her. My fear is if I leave her she will starve. Any advice is welcomed.
It takes imagination to perform some of the impossible midflight acrobatics near the end of the video. They have no practical purpose other than to amuse and defy gravity.
I also forgot I subbed to you,
.I'm like"WTH is Raven?.....…"
So Sorry.
😘 💕 😘
My Favorite is Birds on The Planet!
Love the name "Rhiannon Vorstag", what part of the world are we? I know Rhiannon is like, what Welsh? for "great queen or goddess" and Vorstag, Germanic for? Glad you enjoy the ravens!
Sweet!!!

Amazing moves at the end.. nice to see the youngsters.. ✌
I wonder if some of the offspring head to nest in Crystal cove once they themselves start breeding.
I'm convinced they try, but the already well established breeding pairs run them off. It makes for great chase scenes in late winter to early spring.
Glad to see your still covering the spawn of Satan, look forward to more videos! 😏
My opinion is that any tree or animal can heal us. The reason is simple - they are outside all the time, they live with nature so they are full of natural energy.
My most favourite creature on land, so intelligent, in Ireland the old people say they carry the souls of the dead
I wish I could live there so I can watch them being awesome everyday.
We have had "Stevie RayVan", hanging out for a month now. We're in Big Bear, and they say not to feed him. Hard not to, when he so gently will take it from your hand.. Did someone else tame him, or will they be that bold to walk up to a stranger? I called the Zoo ,and the shelter, they say its no big, happens all the time.(?) Peace.
My favorite video of yours is Raven Creation Story, I adore it, I love Jesus Christ too
Same goes for me! I just wish people could get over the rule oriented religion stuff and learn the amazing relationship magic! It what I try to promote with the ravens, it's the amazing give and take relationships that make everything so special! Thank you for the encouragement!
@@theravendiaries we muslims protect our religion, and our prophets (including jesus)
I'm going to learn to hang glide .
Well this spring I was surprised to find my local conspiracy flying around about the time my husband and I make our smoothie . The past several days when they hear the blender start, they begin cawing and carrying on, so I took out several blueberries and 4-5 flew down and surveyed the scene before two of them loaded their beaks! Grandpa the patriarch is still cawing around as well teaching the young ones. ClaudiaSJI
I didn't know they could live in cliffs 👍
Yes, and I've had some couples who went from cliffs to trees, and others that went from tree nesting to cliff nesting the next year.
Would love for you to invest in a 4k camera o.o
Hello Sophie, I shoot with 4k cameras, but for You Tube, as most people use phones or pads, 720 is generally all that's needed. I have a VIMEO channel where I post a lot in 1080, but I've found for most applications, especially on the net, 4k is overkill and a waste of storage. Should I be aware of something else? Thanks!
I’ve been a casual observer of raven behavior in the Mojave Desert for 50 years. Can’t believe the change in behavior! On my channel if you click the video tab, the first video is one I took the other day. It was the tail end of hundreds of ravens heading to the town’s dumpsters. I get mad at them when they harass the wildlife on my land. They day I took that video “Crazy Ravens,” they had been dive bombing quail just for fun 😁
Was that morning? Which town? I go out that way a few times a year and I'd love record it sometime! And bombing the quail; play, pestering or prey?
Sounds like they're not quite your favorite bird but I'd love to hear any stories you care to share!
@@theravendiaries It’s always morning when they head to town. They don’t fly over my land everyday, they’ heading south to Yucca Valley where they split up and hit the dumpsters. They must have different routes. Oh I love ravens! I just have to fuss at them now and then 😁
I could be wrong about the destination but you see them in dumpsters so I’m assuming it is.
Ravens are so awesome. Fly birds because your babies of God.
^V^ Kaw!! Kaw!! ^V^ 🖤🤘
That's crows 🙂
@@kizmitkismet okay.... deep grumbled ggrrrrrraw... ggrrrrrraw! I Remember the ravens did have a more deeper bellows to their's. 😉👌👍
