I honestly think people overestimate neps difficulty, as long as you aren’t picking some notoriously difficult pure species as your first one. Most hybrids seem to do pretty well as houseplants ample light provided
Hey are you selling seeds of Nepenthes Macrophylla,Nepenthes izumiae,Nepenthes Edwardsiana,Nepenthes hamata and Nepenthes Rajah?I'm living in japan. Thanks
Nice video! Do you think nepenthes can be grown on a windowsill, in canada, without added humidity, just ambiant humidity (so, it's dry) and with no arteficial light on a east facing window?
I also had a bird who thought the sphagnum moss in my hanging basket on my back porch would make a good nest. Took the whole plant out of the pot so I switched it with a spider plant. The bird didn’t like that much apparently bc then next day my spider plant had most of its leaves ripped off and some soil dug out of it 😂
Ambient humidity where I live in Denmark swings between 75%-89% throughout the year, so I won’t need additional humidity for my Nepenthes. I grow them in an in-set South-facing windowsill so they receive indirect light during the summer and direct light during the winter when the sun is lower in the sky. So when it’s warm they stay cool, and when it’s cool they get good light for some hours each day. Works for me :) Definitely wouldn’t do for lowland species. If I wanted to do those in my windowsill I’d put them in a flush window giving full sun during the summer and winter, and let the sun heat the pots (to a limited extent), and the radiator supply heat from below during the winter. I run a cool-roots setup for Heliamphora in my flush windows, though, they are awesome.
My Ventrata, Bloody Mary, and Rebecca Soper are doing great on my windowsill. no humidifier, no heat mat, but I do have a simpel small light for them. I’m looking for an easy to find, non fussy, fun looking windowsill Nepenthes that does not have Ventricosa in it. Humidity 40-70%, temp 16-27°C
My spathulata x hamata seems about as temperamental as ur bical, repotted it and had all but the newest two leaves die back, couple months later and it’s just started to grow again thank goodness
I have a question about two species, if they can be grown on a windowsill here in canada, i really want a edwardsiana but i only have a big east facing window, with grow light and water tray, do you think it can be done? What i should work on first To make it work? (It is in my living room, so night drop in température are pretty complicated😅). Im thinking about getting a humidifier so maybe it Will be enough? The other specie im thinking about is the ramispina.
Hi Brad, I'm from NZ and I was given a couple of nepenthes pitchers seedlings they are in 4inch pots full of spag moss, will they be fine it moss or should they be changed out to a peat mix
Thanks for the tour Brad! Wondered if you've got an Jamban, and if you'd ever tried them as a windowsill plant? Would love to see yours if you have one, and hear your tips
Ok, you said you have an under tank heater. My room is quite chilly and my neps don’t really like it. Do I just place the heat mat under the tank in the middle?
those leaves that didnt form pitchers when you repotted it... will they ever make new pitchers? my nepenthes has lots of leaves that look like that... only had 2 fully formed pitchers, lots of leaves tho....im wondering if i should trim back the leaves that dont have pitchers
Hi! Would you please tell me what ratio of sphagnum moss + perlite should I use? I used to use pure sphagnum moss but it didn't work very well, it made roots rot.
sorry that I had to wait till 1336 to hear about how to keep on a windowstill, Think that I will nip over to Sarracenia Northwest and Oliver's Greenhouse
