- How long do Truncatas take to grow? How easy are they to care for? How do you care for them? What is the best Truncata to own? All of these questions will be answered in this video. There are few predators in the plant world as loved as nepenthes Truncata. When it comes to carnivores plants in reigns supreme. It isn’t one of the easiest and most rewarding of all pitcher plants. In this video I tackle several topics. 1. How long does it take Truncata to grow? 2. How they change with age. 3. What you can expect from certain clones 4. How to care for them. #carnivorousplant #nepenthes #pitcherplant #indoorplants #houseplants #tropicalplants #urbanjungle #plantaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy #carnivorousplanthelp #chmcarnivores #flytrap #pitcherplants
I hope you enjoy the video! If you enjoyed this, you will love ua-cam.com/video/1P0C8WV8yts/v-deo.htmlsi=VECr4z8kFa6vE7zR . In this video I show you a side by side of a group of Truncata from the same sibling group to demonstrate the size difference. I also show you what Truncata I think is the best to own. In addition I cover how to grow these amazing plants. It’s a long er video but well worth staying to the end! What is your favorite Truncata and how big are yours?
Great video! I appreciate your knowledge and the detailed explanation about how to care for them and the growth habit of each one. I may have to look into getting a JB X Pasian!
Thank you for the kind words! You are very welcome! That JB x Pasian is an amazing plant!! It really is just so beautiful!
Love the video :) Yes seedings can be fast or slow growers... Interesting that you still have wings on such big pitchers. 😉
Hey!! Thank you!! It is amazing the difference in the growth rate! It is like way far apart. I would expect some variability but it is a big gap!
I consider this very informative guide as someone who is about get reddish HL from AW, also if u let your nepenthes dry out you either crazy or you are just growing villosa 😅.
Thank you!! lol, yeah definitely not advisable to let them dry out for sure! Thank you for the kind words!!
Thank you for showing them. Mine are slowly but steadily growing in size (leaves and pitchers). Good that they arent very fast growing, don't have the space for to many huge plants on my windowsills
They are fun plants! Out of all of my nepenthes they are the ones I am the closest to. It’s weird, they have like a personality to them.
sadly I don't have any truncatas but I'm planning on changing that some time soon also awsome video and I hope you get better soon
Thank you!!! Yeah you have to get one! They are so rewarding!!
I noticed that when I put it in a larger pot it starts grown much bigger much quicker
Hey! Great point! Yea it definitely likes a good up potting for sure!!
I have 3 Truncatas and the (SG from Cooks Carnivorous plants, an auction win from Florae, and Titans Tower) and the one from Cooks is VASTLY outpacing the other two.
Nice!!! That is awesome!! Do you know what the parents are of the cooks one?
@@Carnivorousplanthelp No I never asked, I should have though.
No worries. I bet it is a C clone! They are all around a strong grower.
So from Josh frogs I got a Nepenthes and it did not look healthy and the grow point died and the plant had 1 exact root and it might have stem rot will it live?
Umm, unfortunately the chances are extremely low with all of those issues together. If it came that way, you might want to look at getting a refund. If one of those were an issue you would be probably okay but with all of them it doesn’t sound likely, I’m sorry. 😞
@@Carnivorousplanthelp it’s ok we tried to contact them and we sent pics and they said there plant department looks said it looked fine but at a plant show I showed them it and they said the department lied😢 but it’s ok
Ahhh that stinks. I’m sorry you had to go through that! Predatory plants and Carnivero have strong Truncata stock!
is it normal for truncata’s leaves to turn yellowish brown? my alata x truncata experience this only compared to my other nepenthes.
It will happen on different hybrids. Could be that it is getting too much light. Without seeing a picture it is hard to tell. How is the media is it too wet? Lastly, are there raised bumps on the leaves where the yellowing is?
@@Carnivorousplanthelp yeah i feel that the media is abit too wet, whenever i water the plant, water would flow out through the pot hole. And yes there are raised bumbs on the leaves.
So if the yellowing is around the raised bumps you could be dealing with Odema. This is when there is too much water on the leaves and the cells in the leaves swell and break open. In regards to the media. Truncata is more on the epiphyte side. It definitely wants moist soil but doesn’t want the soil too wet. It is okay to have water come out of the bottom when you water it though. Best thing to test is take two fingers and push on the media. If the media feels spongy then you are good. If the media feels mushy or water spills out when you push it is too wet.
@@Carnivorousplanthelp hmm is there any way i can send u an image? i don’t think it’s odema hahaha
The sibling plants you showed with the radically different sizes are seed grown, right? Or are they clones?
Good call! Seed grown. That can add some variability in vigor for sure!
I have Hiroshima, HL red AW, and a SG Titanic Tyrant and my Hiroshima is actually the best grower out of all of them
That’s is awesome!! I have had such bad luck with Hiroshima and hear that from others!! That is awesome that yours is doing so well!!!
Why is it so hard to find a full grown nepenthes for sale? I only see small to small/medium plants. I want a big truncata!
I honestly think it comes down to shipping costs. eBay has large sized plants you just have to make sure they are reputable. Todd’s tropicals on eBay is amazing. He sells large cuttings at great prices. Won’t be a full size plant for sure but they are large and affordable. Some of the larger places sell large plants on occasion but they are ridiculously expensive.
@@Carnivorousplanthelp yes! I buy from him too. Great nepenthes some he has are rare. I guess maybe because it takes a long time for them to mature, maybe that's why they are expense & hard to get with big 🪴 plants
He is amazing! Yeah, Truncata can take time although I am surprised to see how fast of growers they are compared to what people say. Especially if you feed them regularly. My JB x Pasian just put out an enormous leaf; like dinner plate sized!!
Hi, thanks
Could you, please, mencionou What PPDF is for them?
Thanks
Hey! The range required varies wildly depending on who you ask. I find that they do best around 100 PPFD. I have seen lower limits of 50 PPFD and upper limits of 170 PPFD. I find that they like light but not a ton. I think around 100 would be good.
@@Carnivorousplanthelp thanks a huge lot, I have some seedlings in a mixed grow tent they are at around 200 PPDF, but will keep an eye on them and perhaps lower it, day time temperatura at 24⁰C and nights at 14⁰C,
That should be okay but keep an eye on them like you said. Keep me posted too. I am always a resource and am always willing to help!
