- My first time watching 'Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban'. HOLLLLLYYYY COW. Things got DARK and I LOVE it. Definitely my favorite of the series so far!

someone has probably already told you this, if not I promise this isn’t spoilers for the movies! They don’t mention it but I thought it’s a cool bit of plot that this movie missed out on
The marauders map was actually made by James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew! That’s why the nicknames are moony (Remus-werewolf), wormtail (Peter-rat), padfoot (Sirius-dog) and prongs (James could turn into a stag) that’s why Remus already knew what the map was and didn’t question it, when Harry said to snape about keeping his large nose out of other peoples business it wasn’t him just being sassy he was actually reading what the map was saying, because if anyone tried to read it without saying the right thing the map insults the reader instead!
Remus was bitten really young at 5 years old by a werewolf and in this world being a werewolf is a horrible thing, it’s a disease and for a lot of people it’s worse than death you are really sick and it’s painful, there’s a lot of prejudice against them and if people know they doesn’t treat you like a human. However Remus was the first werewolf to go to hogwarts because of Dumbledore and he gave him a safe place to transform every month, which is the shrieking shack and dumbledore planted the whomping willow tree that hits people on top of the passage way so people won’t go near it and find out about what was happening because they had to keep the fact that Remus was a werewolf a secret because if people found out people would be outraged and want him out.
James, Sirius, Peter and Remus became friends in 1st year and Remus had to lie a lot to them about why he disappeared every month and why he was always injured and very sick, but they managed to figure out the reason a year later but accepted him and decided not to tell anyone but they felt horrible about how he would badly injure himself every month because being locked up as a werewolf caused him to scratch and bite at himself while he transformed so they decided to become animagi to turn into animals to help him through his transformations since werewolves were fine with other animals and keep him company and it took them years to do this since it’s very complicated and advanced and also dangerous, that’s why they can all turn into animals!
That’s also how Sirius managed to escape because no one knew he was an animagi (turn into a dog) because they did this without people knowing, so he turned into a dog and was that skinny from being in prison he managed to slip out and escape undetected, and the reason he escaped was because the photo of Ron and his family on that trip to Egypt in the paper, were Scabbers (Peter) was perched on his shoulder and recognised him immediately so he set off to kill him.
This is mad long sorry but it’s just incase you want to know! And it also explains some things that were left out in the movies

Yeah I love this movie but I wish they explained some of this stuff at least, even if it’s just the line about them making the marauders map because they had the map there anyway so it wouldn’t have took long but oh well.
One other short addendum to this backstory...the ability to turn into an animal is something that is regulated by the ministry of magic. If you are an animagus you have to declare it and what animal you can become...sort of a registration. James, Sirius, and Peter never did that which technically is a crime punishable by the ministry. But its a big reason Sirius was able to escape from Azkaban. No one knew that he could turn into a dog....which he was doing in his cell because the dementors can't sense the feelings of animals like they can people. Someone who was in Azkaban for 12 years and are not a bit dark to begin with usually get driven a bit mad if not totally crazy.
It may have been long but it was very informative! Definitely a help for anyone who hasn't lived breathed ate and dreamed the Harry Potter world for the last 20 years 😜
@@scottswenson383 like McGonagall, she was a registered animagus as she could turn into a cat. Her cat form has markings round the eyes exactly the same as McGonagalls glasses. Rita Skeeter was another unregistered one who turned into a beetle, which is how she got exclusive news stories by turning into a bug to listen in on conversations. Likewise her beetle form had markings like her glasses.

I know you said you want to read the books, so i'll try to only fill in some things that were missed, that are important for further movies! Sorry, this will likely be a long comment. As a few have already said, the marauders were James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. They were best friends who loved pranks, and were sort of the Fred and George of their time. They created the marauder's map, which is why both Sirius and Remus knew about it. They went by the nicknames Prongs, Padfoot, Moony, and Wormtail after their animal forms. There is a huge prejudice against werewolves, so Remus was only able to attend school because Dumbledore made special accommodations, but he had to keep it a secret. However, in year two his three best friends figured it out and much to Lupins' surprise, remained his friend. The three boys became illegal animagi. Becoming an animagus is incredibly advanced and difficult magic, and once someone has successfully become one, they need to register with the ministry of magic, but the boys never did. Professor Mcgonagall is a legal animagus, if you remember as she can turn into a cat. Due to the lengthy and very risky process, being an animagus is pretty rare and there were only 7 registered animagus in the 20th century, one of them being Mcgonagall. You do not get to pick what animal you become but they are in relation to your personality. For example James was seen as the leader of their group, which is a quality associated with Stags. Peter's animagus form is a rat, and well as you know he ratted out his friends.
Now, about the patronus. It is advanced magic and definitely not usually learned by third years, but Harry has always been good at defense against the dark arts. The wizard needs to think of a happy memory to create the patronus. It can be non-corporeal, which is like the one we saw Lupin do at the beginning of the movie on the train, it does not have a shape. A really strong positive memory can produce a patronus that takes the shape of an animal, like Harry's stag. Thats why he thought it was his dad, because James' animagus form was a stag. The wizard's patronus can adapt to a person you love, for example it can change once someone falls in love to match their partner's patronus.
A smaller detail that some people wonder about is how Sirius afforded the most expensive broom when he just spent 12 years in prison, and was now on the run. The Black family is one of the oldest, most powerful, and richest families in the wizarding world and Sirius was the heir to the fortune. They were a family of dark wizards, and Sirius was the only one to not be sorted into Slytherin. This is why so many people just assumed Sirius was guilty, is because of his family.
You noted that they look so much older in this film. There was a much larger time in between filming the second and third than the first and second. This was in part to Richard Harris death, and them needing to recast Dumbledore.
This is more of just a personal opinion, but Lupin is my favorite character of the series! You learn a lot more about him in the book, but I think he is a pretty complex and interesting character. He was the first person to really give Harry concrete stories about his parents, which Harry really craved. He also took to the underdog characters like Neville. As we have seen Neville is clumsy and always seems to be getting into a sticky situation. But Remus singles him out, helps him successfully defeat his boggart and offers a lot of praise, all things Neville is not used to. Remus is also one of the only professors to call students by their first names, which is just another nice gesture on his part. Even when he was scolding Harry, it was out of place of love and protection.

The only thing I’ll add, at the start when Harry sees Sirius as the dog, Sirius was purposely trying to scare Harry. To call that bus you have to like raise you wand or something, which was why it appeared the moment Harry fell back and raised his wand

It is definitely the best movie of the series from a cinematic point of view. The presence of time is everywhere (the big pendulum in the entrance from the courtyard, the flow of the seasons shown with the womping willow, the big clock we move through a few times), very fitting with the time turner narrative. I also love the motion through glass or the mirror in the Defense against the dark arts lesson. When I first saw the third film I was pretty disappointed because they changed a lot from the previous movies in terms of set design but it has really grown on me, even though my imagination when I read the books is more in line with the first two movies. A lot gets left out from the books and I think it's sadly the first movie where Ron's character gets a bit thrown under the bus (at least more than the previous two, sadly not the last one, where that happens). Don't be too harsh on him in future movies, he is far better in the books. The director liked Hermiones character a lot so most of Ron's good stuff was given to her.
Even though you don't talk a lot throughout it like some other people I really like your reactions, it seems like you are falling more and more in love with the wizarding world with each movie. And that will only grow once you read the books. I would really like to hear about that when you get to that point :)
You couldn’t be more right on that, with each movie I just fall deeper and deeper in love with this series. I’m almost mad at myself for not watching them until now😭😂 and awww that’s kinda sad, Ron is up there as one of my favorite characters, his outfits are always ON POINT😂⚡️
One of the things that makes Lupin hate being a werewolf (besides the fact that people have a HUGE prejudice against werewolves, even though is not their fault) is that he is a really good guy, he doesn't want to hurt people. In his werewolf form he has no control over what he does, so he often isolates himself to protect others.
Besides the fact that Snape told everyone he is a werewolf, the other reason why he left Hogwarts was because he almost hurt the kids and now he fells guilty.
He has self esteem issues and has a depressing/lonely life story, wich upsets me a lot cuz he is one of my favourites.

You never asked but i think it's a cool think. J.K Created the Dementors to symbolize depression, which is why chocolate is he cure to dementor attacks. Chocolate is a common snack for those with depression
You should read up on that map who created it etc it’s pretty fascinating and explains alot I think they left some parts out of the movie obviously thanks again!

There was four people that made that map. Harry Potter's dad and his three friends that includes the traitor. The professor that gives him back the map. He's a werewolf. Remember the name Harry said the map belong to warm tail prunctum lupine. can't remember the fourth name. That's why he made sure professor Snape didn't get it when he got caught that night.

A super cool detail that isn’t covered in the movie is that Remus lupin, Sirius black, Peter pettigrew and James potter were all best friends during their hogwarts years they created the marauders map which is why it’s says messrs moony (lupin), wormtail (Peter), padfoot (Sirius), and prongs (James) proudly present the Marauders map. The friends knew about lupin being a werewolf since lupin had been turned since he was 8years old so professor Dumbledore created a secret passage from the womping willow (the crazy moving tree) that lead all the way to the Shrieking shack (the run down crazy house they encountered Sirius in) it was created so that when the full moon came lupin would have a place to go and not be dangerous to any students, dumbledore spread the rumours that the shrieking shack was haunted so no students would go there, snape always helped lupin by being the student tasked with (reluctantly) making the wolfsbane potion that helped lupin during their time in hogwarts. The friends all decided to become animagi in order to be with lupin when he turned: Sirius choosing to become a dog, Peter a rat and James a stag, which incidentally becomes the shape of Harry’s patronus
Duuuuuude loving your reactions so much. Just accidentally found your channel tonight and binged all your Harry Potter vids. This truly is one of the most wonderful series. Even though it's sorta backwards, I highly recommend you watch the movies before you read the books. The movies are great and gets you decently versed in the world. But if you ever decide to read the books, your in for the most incredible treat. There's so so much they couldn't fit into the movies or chose not too. Some people who read the books first were slightly disappointed by the things they left out or didn't mention. They also did certain characters kinda dirty as well lol. I'll have to explain more as you watch the movies. But trust me, if you enjoy the movies, you'll have so much fun reading/listening to the books! Seriously cannot wait to see more of your reactions! ❤️💛💚💙

my favo in the series! JK Rowling (the author of HP) made Dementors as a physical expression of depression, cold, decay, dread, sucking the soul and happiness out of you. its very symbolic.
in the lore, Dementors are the product of a Mad Dark Wizard called Ekrizdis who lived on the island that is now the prison.
She definitely succeeded! They chill me to the bone.

It's not mentioned in the movies, but in the books Dobby gets a paid job working in the kitchen at Hogwarts.. I really wish the attempts Hermione made to try to free the elves at Hogwarts made it into the movie.. They didn't want to be freed, they loved it at Hogwarts and were honored to serve Dumbledore..

Hate werewolves? I can understand. But now, in some other media, like the ones on Teen Wolf (from the advertisements, never actually seen it), the only the thing to fear is a good time. Or on True Blood, I'd fear most of them, but not all.
Tbh the only “werewolf” movie I can think of that i’ve seen is Twilight😭🤣 so that didn’t give them too good of a head start 😂

When you speak a latin language it’s funny to listen to all the names of the character that are in Latin as lupin. You know exactly what it means and who he is, it’s kind of spoiler or give more details about the characters.

Like many Harry Potter fans, this one is my favorite. I rewatched the movie and played the bonus features game on repeat for months when it came out.
Same, it was my favorite book. I love the movie too, but I think Order of the Phoenix beats it out by a hair.
One of the movie's simplifications is to give the impression that Harry is a powerful wizard. He isn't. He's very ordinary in that regard. What he does have is strength of character. That's why his patronus is so strong.
Do they really make him seem like a powerful wizard? Other than his patronus he doesn't do any extraordinary spellwork in the movies. At least none comes to mind (maybe priori incantatem but he does that in the books as well). I think the movies even make him more ordinary than the books in regards of pure magic. In the books he is a pretty decent wizard, no Hermione but he has good grades and is fairly talented in a lot of subjects and we see him perform a lot more magic, for example in the Triwizard Tournement.
Goblet Of Fire in a week or two.......literally been almost two months! You been using a Time Turner and got stuck in the wrong time?
The incident at the start of the movie was unintentional magic. A lot of little kids who are too young to learn magic have that happen to them. Harry's still only thirteen, so his anger basically meant he performed accidental magic. He didn't mean to inflate anyone. He knows he's not allowed to do magic outside of school.
Ooooooooo gotcha, I was wondering how that happened haha. Guess it’s like what happened with the snake behind the glass window in the original.
And Harry could regrow his hair. That's what got him noticed and that's why he received the letter in the first movie.
@@couch.patati-patata He also made an old sweater belonging to Dudley shrink while his aunt tried to force him into it. And later on, he tried to jump behind some bins and ended up on the roof of his school. He got punished twice over because the school thought he'd climbed there.
Harrys Patronum at the end gives me chills every damn time.
One Harry Potter fan to another. Live in Mississippi and I cannot find Harry Potter's owl Hedwig. Try to get up to Walgreens before they sold out. Got up there and all the Harry Potter stuff was sold and gone. Can't find any more. Is there are way to get all the wands in all the movies in one collection. Please send info if you can.

There's a Department of Accidental Magic Reversal for a reason. Even some adult wizards can't always control their magic but it's expected that kids will do magic involuntarily as they grow up.

Some adults in the wizarding world can do wandless magic. Harry lost control of his magic. He was trying so hard to keep it under control but Aunt Marge just didn't stop and ended up getting blown up as a result. I really feel like Harry losing control like that (blowing up Aunt Marge) was exactly how Harry was feeling at that moment, (like Harry himself was going to blow up). Hope my belief is right. If not it's OK.

Lupin saves Harry at the beginning of the movie & yet you don't trust him? I do not get it. I trusted him right away.
This really is the best movie out of the bunch. Sadly it's also the first movie where a lot of details get left out.
I recommend reading the book for this if you weren't planning on it already. It reveals a lot of stuff about certain characters. It also fleshes out Ron and Hermione a little bit more seeing as they were slightly cast aside this movie.
From this we go to the fourth movie, which is voted either the worst or the second worst movie, depending on who you ask.
Although as a movie in itself it isn't bad, if you never read the books it's probably going to be at the top of your list.

@@ReelReactionsYT I wouldn't necessarily say the 4th one was the worst, but it was probably the one that left out the most stuff from the books - often important stuff. You probably already know that the 7th book was split into two movies. They really could/should have done this for the 4th, 5th, and 6th books as well. They tend to get longer and more complicated. Even this movie has a lot of stuff left out, but maybe not enough to make a whole other movie.

I loved the books ending with Snape being pissed at Harry. also they tried real hard to make Ron/Hermione more pleasant, they spent the majority of the book arguing.
@@darkwolf1202 I agree with you. Movie 4 messed up as well, the pacing's off and you can tell that the director couldn't bother reading the book, the scenes are all over the place... but movie 6... omg... what even...

As about using magic without a wand: in the books (and some official supportive materials) it is stated that magical abilities start manifesting at the age of about eight, and they are usually uncontrollable and depend on emotions. It is considered a sign of great talent if a little wizard or witch take control over them; for example, Lily (Harry's mother) could make flowers open and close at will and also float a little, while Tom Riddle (future Voldemort) could move things without touching them or cause harm to those who offended him ("I can hurt a person if I want to"). A wand is used mostly to direct the powers and give them a proper form, but it is used not everywhere (in African countries, most wizards just point at things with forefingers... not the best explanation, I know)
@Gregory Mason so far no school really got a movie besides Hogwarts. I guess we will learn more about Ilvermorny in Fantastic Beasts or maybe even get to see it. But other than that we only got to see a few students of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, not even their schools.
