I have been living in Texas since I was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force base in the mid . I originally came from Michigan and knew the day I stepped off the plane for camp that I would live here for the rest of my life. The one thing that I always loved About Texas is the people that make up this great state. They are the salt of the earth, are working and friendly. People like Mr. Henderson who live in small towns who are hard-working and honest people. I love your stories of these kinds of people, it gives me hope for this country because this country is full of people in small towns and cities who are just like the people of Texas.

I used to sit in there, at that very spot, and eat hotlinks off butcher paper as a little kid, as a special treat, with my daddy and my grandpa. They've both passed on now, years ago. Grew up just down the road, off Old Highway 300 near 726. That was a different time for me, though. Hell, I think it was a different time for everyone. The world was just a different place back then.
Best hotlinks I've ever had though. I'm in my mid-thirties now, married, my wife and I living in Sweden, a very long way away from East Texas.
Damn, that was a long time ago...

Sweden is a good place to live just like other places. It is what you make it to. Could be the other half that is the magnet so to speak. I am going to visit when I set my feet on Texas soil next year.
Love the nice way of how people are respected from the reporter. Thumbs up! Have a nice winter of 2019.

Some of my most beloved memoirs are of eating East Texas hot links with my grandfather the man who raised me and tought me to be a man and who I proudly called Daddy. Tears come to my eyes years of joy and of sorrow longing or those days. It has been years sents l have had East Texas hot links. I am now in Maine and thinking about driving home to TEXAS just to have them.

My grandfather,H.W. Rhea and his sister started the Hot Link business here in East Texas, back in the great depression. For decades the product was known as Rhea's Hot Links. It was started in Greenville, Tx. His sons, Allen and Joe Rhea both opened up there own Hot Link business (and both called Rhea's Hot Links) in Mt Pleasant, Pittsburg and Tyler Tx. I believe Allen Rhea was the one that sold this store to "Docs Hot Links....yrs ago. But I'm not sure.(it could have been my grandfathers sister) Allen died in the 80's and his daughter and son in law ran the business for yrs. David Rhea (my cousin ) took over Joe Rhea's Hot Links in Tyler. My grandfather's sister (Aunt Chic) broke away from Rhea's and started East Texas Hot Links yrs ago. She wanted more than just a small business and became federally inspected (FDA)....and because of this. they became famous...or well know anyways. I grew up at Rhea's in Greenville, Tx and lived with my grandparents in the early 60's. Back then things were segregated. We had a "colored" eating area and a "white" eating area.

I watch Diners Drive-ins n Dives and honestly the places I've visited are so so. Not with Texas Country Reporter, the places are as good as they look.

It’s 2019 and this video was posted in 2013. Wonder if they’re still open. Haven’t eaten here, but did eat at the one in Pittsburgh, TX.
