Is it feasable to clone an emmc to a M.2 drive on a laptop? I have never tried that before but I may be trying it soon. It should be easy enough to select the boot drive in the BIOS afterwards right?
Yes, It is possible. Cloning an eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard) drive to an M.2 drive in a laptop is indeed feasible, and it's a common process used to upgrade storage or improve performance. However, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind: **Compatibility:** Ensure that the M.2 drive you plan to use is compatible with your laptop both physically (M.2 form factor) and in terms of interface (SATA or NVMe). Confirm the laptop's M.2 slot supports the same interface as the M.2 drive you intend to use. **Cloning Software:** You'll need cloning software to transfer the data from your eMMC drive to the M.2 drive. Popular tools like Acronis True Image, Clonezilla, or Macrium Reflect are commonly used for this purpose. **Proper Cloning Process:** 1. **Backup:** Before starting, ensure you have a backup of your important data. Cloning is generally safe, but having a backup is a good practice. 2. **Cloning:** Connect the M.2 drive (using an external enclosure, if needed) and use the cloning software to copy everything from the eMMC to the M.2 drive. 3. **BIOS Configuration:** After cloning, you'll need to go into your laptop's BIOS and set the M.2 drive as the boot drive. Most laptops will allow you to easily select the boot drive from the BIOS settings. 4. **Data Verification:** After booting from the M.2 drive, ensure that all your data and applications are working as expected. Sometimes, small adjustments might be needed due to the change in storage. **UEFI and Secure Boot:** Some laptops use UEFI firmware and Secure Boot. When switching drives, you might need to adjust UEFI settings to allow booting from the new drive. This can sometimes involve disabling Secure Boot or configuring Secure Boot keys for the new drive. **Activation and Licensing:** If your operating system is licensed, make sure the license is transferrable to the new drive. In some cases, you might need to reactivate the OS. **Driver Considerations:** If your eMMC drive is significantly different from your M.2 drive (e.g., SATA vs. NVMe), you might need to update drivers to ensure optimal performance. While the process itself is relatively straightforward, the specifics can vary depending on your laptop's model, BIOS, and the software you use. Reading your laptop's documentation and researching specific laptop and drive models can provide more precise guidance. As with any technical process, patience and thoroughness are key to a successful outcome. Thank you for the question.

If you find a notebook with eMMC SSD on it with only 32GB then avoid, windows 10 requires to much memory when forcing it's updates on you that the 32GB will soon be all used up and you will end up with failed update notifications. As far as I'm concerned 120GB of memory is a minimum far any system. Then there is the RAM but don't get me started on that.

UFS is the successor to the current eMMC standard for embedded NAND flash memory, and it aims to offer some of the benefits of faster SSD memory in a lower-energy chip. The package contains the NAND flash memory and controller, designed for small, mobile products. UFS offers some high performance benefits of the SATA interface, which is faster yet the UFS uses the flash-optimized low power consumption of eMMC.
If the application needs lower power consumption, then go with eMMC. If it needs to be faster, go with UFS. The difference in cost really only comes into play if you are dealing with hundreds of units.
You could have gone more in-depth about a big downside of it, though, like lower longevity compared to SSDs and HDDs, and due how to it is soldered, there's the risk of your laptop that has eMMC only storage dying and becoming quite useless in less time than ones that allow you to put SATA HDD/SSD or M.2 SATA/NVMe SSDs in them. Also given how the chromebook/laptop like devices with it tend to be in the very budget tier of products, chances are the people who have them don't have the equipment and know-how to put another eMMC module in there to fix the issue.

Can you just use an external HDD on the eMMC laptop?
Yes, I am doing that now. I am using a 256gb USB fit drive.

If this new stream wasn't flashing I had thought that all those Microsoft updates would go on an external harddrive. But then there is this sporadic flashing of the screen on this computer, for what reason I don't know.
@@100consciouseternallightho6 Flashing? That is different. Normally, if I see flashing on a display, it is an hardware problem, such as a loose connection.
Very true. This is why I placed the Chrome OS on that one HP laptop that came with a 32GB eMMC. It was useless with Windows 10 because there was not enough space for any updates or apps. Once I installed the CloudReady OS on that unit , that HP laptop became very useful with offline apps like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc. I made a video on that topic too.
Thank you for the comment.
@STS Tech New Chromebooks now support Linux apps . To turn on Linux support, Go to settings, then Linux (beta). Once it is installed, you have the terminal and can install Linux apps. One of my students just installed Steam on his Chromebook and he is stoked.
Talking about the speed ,your chart is difficult and confused.
Sorry about that.
can i install os in hdd (asus e402) ans use emmc as storage
You can, if there is a port to connect the HDD, like M.2 or SATA. What I have seen is that many computer companies try to save as much money as possible by not including those ports.
Hey does anyone know if it's possible to clone the eMMC to a SSD? I have a HP Notebook with 32 GB eMMC storage. The storage is full now after 3 yrs and I can't even download the windows 10 upgrades. I know I have a spare SATA connection so I can add a SSD with bigger storage. Only think idk is if there is a way to clone a eMMC to SSD so that the laptop boots up from the SSD and the eMMC becomes secondary storage. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I have done that using an external drive enclosure and the cloning software found here, www.kingston.com/unitedstates/us/support/technical/acronis-download
@@selmateacher7
thanks for the quick response! Do u have a preference between crucial and kingston brand? If I have a crucial brand SSD would I just use the crucial Acronis cloning program? Also, I have a SATA port on the motherboard so can I install the SSD internally instead of external?
@@mustafaahsan1999 They are both good IMO. Yes. since you have a SATA ports, that does make it easier in your case.

Can you compare with ufs
UFS is the successor to the current eMMC standard for embedded NAND flash memory, and it aims to offer some of the benefits of faster SSD memory in a lower-energy chip. The package contains the NAND flash memory and controller, designed for small, mobile products. UFS offers some high performance benefits of the SATA interface, which is faster yet the UFS uses the flash-optimized low power consumption of eMMC.
selmateacher7 - Daniel Berry thanks for reply sir
But toshiba company says emmc has 2 advantage compared to ufs, *power consumption is low compared to ufs.*and cost is also less, so is it true??
If the application needs lower power consumption, then go with eMMC. If it needs to be faster, go with UFS. The difference in cost really only comes into play if you are dealing with hundreds of units.
selmateacher7 - Daniel Berry thanks sir for the reply
You could have gone more in-depth about a big downside of it, though, like lower longevity compared to SSDs and HDDs, and due how to it is soldered, there's the risk of your laptop that has eMMC only storage dying and becoming quite useless in less time than ones that allow you to put SATA HDD/SSD or M.2 SATA/NVMe SSDs in them. Also given how the chromebook/laptop like devices with it tend to be in the very budget tier of products, chances are the people who have them don't have the equipment and know-how to put another eMMC module in there to fix the issue.
Thank you for the comment. Yes I have those details on other videos on my A+ computer playlist. Also, I have a newer video on upgrading the Chromebook's storage without risking it. It is found here: ua-cam.com/video/FRug8x8KQrU/v-deo.html
I need at 1TB of storage. Speed is irreverent if the OS takes up most of your storage.
Ext. storage, like SD cards and USB jump drives are great for extra space. That is what I use on my Acer CB515
