Scotty, you need to buy a real rig. A brand new fully loaded Jeep Gladiator Rubicon.
I liked, I been subscribed for a loooong time! Scotty, I have a 2006 Scion Xb with 390,000 miles on it. People might laugh at the toaster on wheels, but it is a hell of a car!
@@hugos6444 my son used to say the xb stood for xtra boxy. I loved the xb, wished I bought one
My 2004, has 200,000 on it and needs head gadgets, not so great in my opinion
@@josephsavicki9201 Were you the original owner though? If not, maybe the owner prior to you didn’t do a good job keeping up on maintenance, particularly oil changes
My daughter is still driving my old 2003 4-Runner with 487k
Amazing , I hope my 4 th gen 4Runner last that long . I have an 05 with 239k
@@jaybird4406 Synthetic Mobile 1 since it had 20k, and 10k oil changes with K&N filters.
I bought a 05 4runner with 150k. I'm the 2nd owner, and now its at 170K. Love that car!
I have a 2005 4runner with 296,000 miles and still going. The interior is like new I bought it when it had 20,000 miles on it. No rust spots....could use a little paint from fading overall looks and runs great
That's freaking awesome!
3rd Gen 4Runner is one of the finest vehicles ever made. I'll never let mine go.
What year?
I would love to have one but my RV trailer unloaded is 4700 pounds and I’m pushing it if I put water and supplies in it otherwise yeah I’d like to have one but I think I need an Armada with a V-8 engine… too bad I love Toyotas they’re very very reliable and I’ve probably had half of my stable… presently and counting towards 50 autos/trucks and most of them were made by Toyota.
@@jeffyeager4045 They ran from ‘96 - 2002. Mine is a 2000. Some consider the 99 and 2000 the best years.
@@davidthompson7817 Toyota made a lot of 4-Runners with the V-8 in them.
How many miles yours have?
Amen ! 4Runners are the best, most reliable SUV’s ever made. That’s why they are so expensive.
And landcruisers
Landcruiser has entered the chat.
No, the pilots are too
@@richsweeney1115 no frame or solid axle. Lifted accord.
If you own it for 20 years it cost $1200-$2G a year to purchase. They cost less than a jeep, grand Cherokee, pilot, telluride, explorer, trail blazer, enclave, pathfinder and they last longer with less repairs. Plus they retain their resale value. Even at 19yo, I don't have any rattles. I still have the original exhaust. Best value SUV on the road in my and 99% of 4runnr owners opinion
My 2002 has 312,000 on it. Original engine and transmission. It spent most of its life in Atlanta with the original owner, so rust is nonexistent.
Does yours have the "AWD" version drivetrain? Can't remember what Toyota called it, little different than the 2000.
@TheSaturnV Unfortunately, mine's only 2WD. Considering the name "4Runner" is a 4X4 oriented name, it makes you wonder why Toyota even made a 2WD only version.
@@benchattin Scotty told me when he filmed this he thinks 4x4 is almost always so stupid and useless 😂😅 feel ya tho. That one in the vid, mine, is just a rwd as well.
@James Powell It not being 4WD doesn't bother me personally. It does, however, affect resale value. Everyone thinks they need 4WD, but most people I see buying them never use it. I haven't been in a situation where I needed it.
@@benchattin agreed. I have a 98 limited 2WD runs like a dream. I live in Arizona but 4x4 isn’t really needed in phx. Unless I go up north where it snows
I know people with Forerunners from the 90’s that are still running strong.
And older jeeps. The jeeps that don't last are the bums that run them to death in the mud
4Runner, not Fore. Unless you're talking about your foreskin.
@@GSXR-1000 I have heard about that! Older Jeeps were good. Or that’s what I hear.
@fortimusprime it's easy to clear 250k+ on the 4.0 jeeps 97-06 was the last reliable generation of jeeps. Alot in the groups have over 300k some 400k miles
@@GSXR-1000 Wow. That is amazing. Those were some amazing engines back then!

Have my matrix for 11 years now just fluids and brakes. Still runs great !
Yeah but your car is ugly and slow 😢
The speech on the skid plate from under the car is so passionate.
My 08 V8 4wd still runs like new. It still looks great, inside and out!
They put a V-8 in one of those Toyota 4Runners?
@@davidthompson7817 Yes sir, for about 5 years in the mid 2000's they put their 4.7 V8 in 4Runners. It's a real nice combination.
100% facts Scotty!! Everyone I know who has those generation 4 runners still have w/300k plus mileage!!
'96 - 2002 owners: Replace your lower ball joints and radiator if you don't know when/if they've been done. Those are the 2 4Runner Achilles heels.
Bad LBJ's on these can cause you to wreck, and bad radiators can destroy your transmission.
I'm getting around to the radiator real soon. Tranny is fine, but I'm changing the radiator just cause it's old as hell and head gaskets being done
Mine has 310K miles after 34 years, i'm still using and occasionally soldering/ fixing the original brass 3 core radiator. Its cooling fine, always used genuine Toy Long Life & mixed myself using distilled water..... I have a 5spd manual. So lower radiator section is unused. I always wondered if I could intergrate that lower unused radiator section and integrate it into the engine cooling since I have no automatic tyranny.
4Runners rock.
My 87 4runner has never failed me.
No starter change, or alternator? Nothing?
.
@@calebclayton3927 those are normal wear items. I'm talking about major repairs
My 2002 has 220k and runs smooth as butter.
Have a 2001 4runner with 287,000 miles which my ex wife bought brand new and became my work truck after 56,000 miles. She drove the brand new Chev Traverse we purchased.
Fast forward 8 years we are divorced. I've treated the 4runner like the stepchild, I don't warm it up before taking off, changed oil maybe twice in 225,000ish miles and realizing it had NO air filter for roughly 200,000miles.
Still running like a champ.
Traverse broke down maybe 2 years ago
The timing chain at 80,000 along with radiator are the only 2 recommended maintenance parts I addressed
It’s a amazing truck no doubt. I been doing research and no wonder a 2004 is still like $6000+ they have a amazing track record
You can’t beat Toyota. Period.
3uzFE engine here with 280k on the clock… quiet as a whistle. These things are designed to perfection.
Scotty loves Toyota 4runner
Been test driving a loaner HONDA HRV . Love it !!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
If it's plastic it's a splash guard if it's metal it's a skid plate.
my old tundra is still on the road with 370,000 miles. it's needed a new radio, rack, and radiator
What year? I have a '12 & it's supposed to be the 'worst year' according to online reports. But I do most all of my maintenance, so hopefully their is a chance.
I love my 2017 4runner. Will hold onto it forever
I just bought a 2004 4runner with 146k miles I'm extremely happy
Love it.. I’m still rolling in 94 Toyota pickup
I got a 2002 4runner with 300k and I do need headgaskets but that's from me beating it with a mud caked radiator and overheating it a few times but my leather interior is thrashed but the rest of the rig is solid I love that thing and I'll never get rid of it
Hi Scotty. Thank you for all the information you give in your videos. They have been very helpful over the years. I'm looking at a 2018 Toyota 4Runner with 65,000 miles. They dealer is asking $31K for it. I think I can get him down a couple thousand more. It is coming Toyota Certified and the dealer has all the maintenance records. It still has 2 years and 35K miles on the transferrable extended warranty. I normally wouldn't consider a vehicle with that many miles on it, but this is a Toyota and the 6 cylinder and tranny on this are supposed to be pretty bullet proof. If I have a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection and it checks out am I still taking a risk with this vehicle. I will be using it for off-roading (not rock climbing) and for camping for the next few years. Thanks for any information Scotty!
Isn't the Toyota Certified Warranty 100,000 miles no matter what?
My 2wd 4cyl 1996 4Runner has climbed rocky Arizona dirt mountain roads 25% grade, fully maxed on the weight capacity. She’s slow but she does it anytime
Love it ❤ I just added a Sony AX5600 android auto stereo to mine.
Love the T4R
Scotty Justifying My Mom's Decision to Purchase a 2017 4-Runner Limited RWD in a Short Vid.

So cool. That’s MY 4Runner ❤ Scotty is the best. It was amazing meeting him and his videographer
Toyota is the best. I'm a Prius owner and will eventually get a 4runner
My mechanic can't believe how little rust my 4runnr has compared to his dodge pickup. But the combo antilock master cylinder on my 04 was a real expensive gut punch. Besides that and the calipers it's been bullet proof
Worked on a few with blown head gaskets ..... You repair that change the hoses etc car will run for 10 more years
Mine has 310K miles after 34 years, i'm still using and occasionally soldering/ fixing the original brass 3 core radiator. The head gasket is Multi Layer Steel MLS. Using conventional elevated Zinc oil, at least 1000ppm or 1100ppm. Using DRIVEN oil GL4 for transfer case & tranny.
Just bought mine new this year and my goal is to never own an electric vehicle until they drag me out of it.
I would not expect anything else from Toyota!
Well...even scottyhas said toyota is making them cheaper now
Just got a lexus gx 470. Pretty much the same thing. Great car!
Sweet my 2007 4R has 206k on it. A deer helped me decide to keep it 3 years ago. Massive collision and 10k in repairs gave me a brand new front end with radiator, ac cooler lines etc.. 😂
May i ask is your 07. A v6 or a v8
V-8 4.7L
My '94 forerunner. 3.0 blew the 😊#6 head gasket every 60k. Sold it to me new like that
There are a lot of "full frame" vehicles out there. Toyota simply concentrates on quality over quantity.
Or rather on quality over greed. But the quantity is okay. How many other manufacturers produce more vehicles than Toyota? Oh, WV at times. Anybody else? Nope.
Love my 04 sequoia 233,XXX and running great ... had 2 4runners with the 3.0 V6 not the best the 3.4 V6 were amazing
Toyota are the Real Deal..
2008 Prius...
330,000+ miles and STILL RUNNING like a champ...!
40 mpg in winter... 47 mpg in summer
I wish American companies would match Japanese quality.
My 1998 454 2500 suburban and 2002 8.1 dually are close to that milage, and haul horses and cattle out of state weekly
They do.
Many do(or did)
Unfortunately, Japanese vehicles are no longer Japanese vehicles. Most are no longer made in Japan
@51AB what year. He should’ve had it checked out by a mechanic before he bought it, if it was used. Do that for any used car, you can’t trust that a previous owner didn’t beat the tar out of it
Asking Love to give us some that are affordable, accessible, and with good gas mileage !!
Insane how much these hold their value.
4Runner 1990 always brought me back from a trip one time it had electrical short and they fixed it in Mexico but I could still drive the thing I just couldn't see how much gas I had in the tank the gauges wouldn't work but the thing still ran
Just so you know you can get that kind of mileage out of a Dodge it just takes four vehicles to do it.
Eh,I've had a few high milage dodges, well over 200k anyways, but yea..a lot of them are crap
@@richsweeney1115 you know being a mechanic for 40 years and all I have seen and done alot of it is luck sometimes you get a good one sometimes a lemon, I actually have 3 Dodge products so what does that tell you 😀 but if I wasn't a mechanic not sure they would still be around, lots of upkeep.
That's not true, only 3..😂
@@stevenekdahl7124 it tells me you have more resources than other people, to fix it.
@@richsweeney1115 Hi Rich , yes had an Auto care center and NJ state inspection and emission repair, for 40 years so I think I have the best chance of keeping a Dodge running lol. Truth be told I am OK with Dodge products it's the dealerships that are the most dishonest disgusting crooks on the planet, there cars and trucks are not better or worse than the other big two GM, Ford. I tell everyone pick what you like it's all the same junk. 😁😆
Just change the radiator every 100,000 miles or install a transmission cooler and bypass the radiator altogether. Otherwise, your transmission might experience the pink milkshake of death.
Bypass the radiator?
237K and never touched the radiator besides drain and fills every 50k
@@austinr8501 yes, if you install a transmission cooler then your ATF will run through that instead of going through the bottom of the radiator where the ATF and coolant are separated only by a metal pipe that can corrode and leak over time. One of the only things that breaks gen 3 4Runners is getting a radiator leak where the coolant can then enter the transmission.
@@lg9853 I’m glad you’ve had good luck. Your routine changing of the coolant has probably kept the radiator in good condition. Unfortunately many car owners ignore every fluid except for motor oil. Over time and through repeat heating and cooling coolant will eventually become corrosive which is likely the cause for these radiator failures. Still, radiators are cheaper than a transmission as are aftermarket transmission coolers that cool your transmission fluid without putting it in close proximity to coolant.
Radiators were always made of metal, but since 2000 most car makers use plastics due to dishonesty in manufacture. My new 2003 Jaguar’s radiator collapsed at 2010 due to this metal substitute.
I own a 2004 Pontiac vibe GT 6-speed manual transmission 294447. Everything works looks great. Except of course the paint that year sucked. I doordash in it, I put a clutch in it about ten thousand miles ago, just put two CV axles in the front. Besides needing brakes now it's all good. Love my Vibe/ Toyota matrix ❤️💯
My '05 4runner pushing 300,000 miles, still moving along, only replaced tge battery once. I'm very diligent about keeping oil/filter changed though.
That’s awesome. The black one in the vid is mine. I’ve replaced the battery once and the alternator twice. 😂 because it has a kenwood double din stereo and a 250w subwoofer. Lol
Is your 4 runner the v6 or v8
@@ParadiseSleepChannel I have the V6
We have a 97 gm 150k mi. New water pump, headliner, alternator, power steering pump and lines. Eats brakes for breakfast.

Put Tundra brakes on it, helps out a lot.
Toyota 4 Runners last forever 😊 QUALITY 🙂
Thank you Uncle Yota!
That's why I want one!!!
My 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon is going to last 500k miles. Mark my words. I only have 498k miles to go! Going to do a full synthetic every 5k, and change the transmission oil every 40k.
Lol 😂

@folgore1942 I do have body rust issues. I'm going to tackle that on my own with bondo
Good work scotty
My 08 has 300k on the odo. I do wish I had put seat covers when I first got it, but they are mostly just fine. The kids have made a mess of them, but I can just get them detailed. The edge of the drivers seat has some wear from getting in and out. I should probably get a cover for that one at least to preserve it a little better.
I had a ‘97 that I almost flipped… it ended up spinning and going backwards into a guard rail which didn’t affect the driving of it after that, it just required me to get a new hatch door. I wish I would’ve kept it now but the short wheelbase makes it hard to pull an RV.
I own the same truck 3rd gen 4Runner with a 5 inch lift and 33 inch tires has 279k miles ac still blows cold ! No lights on the dash either !
I have just under 300,000 on my 2000 Limited 4WD. It is MINT!
Amazing! The black one in the vid is mine! I love it
Is it a v6 or v8
Had mine for a few years. Worked great but for the 22R engine. A little to little for the big hills, fully loaded, though. Cool
however that grill trim almost fell off when you knocked on it 😅
Honestly my mud flaps are 34 years old and not cracked at all is some kind of NASA material I swear... and my dashboard has a mat on it and it's not cracked... it's actually pretty good plastic unlike the plastic that's put on vehicles now
I love my VW beetle A5, and to be honest, it’s the best car I could ever ask for. But there is no discussion that Toyota is the best car brand in reliability, and lifespan.
had a 4 runner 1989 sold it at 350 km , I hear it was over 550000 km .. tailgate hade to replace it .. and didn't rest spray treated every year .. I miss my 4 runner
My father has 2 4runners a 2001 and a 1996 with about 250,000 miles each. The weird thing is that the 2001 4runner burns oil but the 1996 burns ZERO oil 😂 they both are 8n tip top shape though.
It was a cutting edge technology by Toyota back in 2000 as a token of the upcoming new Millennium.
You see, the oil is consumed to boost power and reduce gas consumption.
Yep there was some finicky issue with the newer engines and they had lil problems. I LOVE my JT3 tho. The one in the vid is mine believe it or not. Waiting anxiously for the full length vid to come out.
I sold to an exporter, my 99 4runner after 16-17 yrs, got tired of 16-17mpg. 3.4L V6, manual 5spd. But my 2006 Tacoma 2.7L 4cyl manual 5spd only gets 21mpg highway, and loves going 75-80mph. Maybe some day I'll drive 55mph and get a couple more mpg.
Love my 97. Has 298k on the clock.

If you can't afford a 4runner don't sleep on the first 2 generations of the Nissan Pathfinder. 1st gen has tons of aftermarket support, 2nd gen not so much but makes a great daily.

If you run on misfires too long it'll burn oil, blow a gaskets and make your coolant and oil disappear. They already leak oil before all that. You can never escape the valve cover leak.
The new 4runners have a 2 inch foam as seats... not comfortable for the back seat passengers, but they do last a long time
