That argument was so dumb I found religion. For that guy to think a sealed jar of peanut butter plus its shelf life of a couple years is totally equivalent to the conditions of primordial Earth plus a few billion, there must be a God. No one could possibly be that stupid without some form of divine intervention.
The reporter with the extremely friendly elephant was my favorite. He did a great job staying focused until it was totally impossible.

It has a historical meaning and a more modern, colloquial meaning: its historical meaning is actually much like "overwhelm": to overcome in thought or feeling, (or to turn something like a dish or vessel upside down to cover or engulf it to disastrous effect.) There's another meaning ala "to pass or go over something so as to bury or submerge it." The modern, "emergent" definition that has come about since "underwhelmed" was coined is to be "moderately impressed."

Its funny, first time I heard the word was in D&D like a decade ago! There was a relatively obscure spell called "whelm" that did psychic damage to a thinking target. Pretty generic in effect.

It's called a "soup" because like how a soup is water mixed with ingredients, the primordial soup is mainly composed of water mixed with the "ingredient" molecules needed to form amino acids: the building blocks of life.
